Lena, just wanted to thank you. I’m going into my 19th year of carrying a pistol, and every year I just barely pass our annual qualifications course. I stumbled across your videos and binge watched them over and over again every day for about a week. Went to the range today and I was a totally different shooter. I landed every round I shot from the 25 in the center mass. I use to always throw them low left from that distance, even missing the target completely sometimes. I’ve worked with several Firearms Instructors throughout the years, and what they tried correcting me on never really clicked. The way you explain things just makes sense to me. It’s like a light bulb went off for me. You’re an excellent teacher. Thanks again.
congrats!! thats a great accomplishment
I’ve been shooting handguns for probably 10 years now and everytime I watch one of these I still learn something
Absolutely! It is taking things for granted that makes you unsafe on the range. Not all gun faux pas are dramatic, like sweeping the room while talking. Mine are usually from being tired or inattentive to detail and training because I am thinking too far ahead.
christopher dean I’ve been shooting 45 years and learn something new each time I watch the Miculek family.
@@claud1961 That is a big thing to keep in mind when operating any type of machine. It's always the monotonous things that can get people hurt.
Agreed.
You look like on medication and you need to change your acting out and fire your image maker....
The Miculek family are a real blessing to people like myself getting into handguns. Lena is a great communicator and teacher. Great video!
Well she had a great teacher. Her mom aint bad either.
Agreed! I see it as an AWESOME thing that this tradition and skill-set is being passed on generation to generation. My great grandfather taught my grandfather who taught my father who taught me and now im teaching my kids. Its humbling being a teacher after learning. Times change and we adapt to them and im thankful that we're in a time where theres sooo much information available and for free for that matter from professional shooters and instructors.
agreed!
Excellent. Showing how to do it right over and over again, wothout showing or talking about how not to do it establishes the correct visual-manual connection per the flight instructor Principal of the Primacy Effect.
That was a huge amount of concise, easy-to-digest and well-rounded information. All delivered in about one-tenth the time of the average pistol 101 course. You Miculeks are somethin' else!
Did you really need it??
Lena is a great teacher with sound advice and a calm informative Style. Plus she's one of the best Shooters in the world so you can't ask for a better instructor.
America (and the world, for that matter) needs more role models like Lena.
Love how she NEVER swept the camera plane when she was moving around showing the grip. She always lowered the barrel while turning. Just safety muscle memory.
Absolutely golden material for ALL shooters, taught clearly and concisely, with an emphasis on repetition and muscle memory. Outstanding job.
A fellow female firearms instructor here and I've watched about 20 videos tonight trying to find a REALLY GREAT video to share for my clients and I just want to say that this video is perfect. Your content is great, accurate, informative, funny and engaging. Great job. :)
Where was Lena 30 years ago when I was forming all my bad habits? Oh, that’s right - she wasn’t born yet! This is a great lesson for beginners and experienced shooters who are trying to overcome bad habits. The previous video where Lena & Jerry appeared together and spoke at length about presenting the gun, acquiring the sights, without staring at the target helped me a lot. I remember Jerry speaking on TV about speed shooting and bringing his gun up, then “cleaning up the sight picture”. I didn’t understand what he meant until he & Lena talked about not staring at the target first. There was a lightbulb moment...
my dominant eye got hammered a while back ( I was looking at a vehicle that got blown up ) and failed so I decided to go all in and switch hands. fortunately my right hand didn't pass its bad habits to my left. so you can switch hands and get a clean slate.
I agree, she has a natural teaching talent. I've been shooting longer than she's been alive and she shakes out my bad habits.
I’ve been doing 30 minute new shooter sessions with my 12 year old daughter. I might have her watch this with me during our next session and then do 10 minutes of dry practice
Even if you can't get to the range. 10 minutes of drills a day is always a good practice.
Good idea. This young lady's instruction might connect with your 12 year old daughters and help make your daughter an excellent and safe shooter.
Good dad!!
@@dontneedtoknow5836 Even if you can get to the range, drills are always good.
"Make sure there is no ammunition around..." Oh that piles behind lol
I have been watching this channel for years and I think that pile has stayed the same. It is puzzling! If I had to guess, it is complimentary ammo that either isn't used due to odd calibers or just limited quantity or they just have a favorite personal brand. When you go to a match you better be using the gun and ammo of your sponsors! This stuff isn't cheap. On a regular basis, they fire up my ammo allowance for a month! No different than going to an auto shop and seeing all those belts and hoses hanging there year after year.
I guess this must be a recurring theme in this family :-P
Lucas Jacobs
Mother Father daughter all world/national champions.
No ammo in the 180° zone. :P
I think those are decorative empty boxes. Real stuff is under the table.
I love how you can see bits of her dad poping out and then shwap, she's all original. Lols.
I'm new to this world of gun ownership. This tutorial is extremely helpful. I learned quite a bit. Thank you for taking the time to share and teach.
Great video for an "elderly", ol' gun owner. Been out of the bang bang world for awhile and am back in. You refreshed me in a concise, deliberate and fully understandable manner. I sat in my recliner, weapon in hand, and practiced along with your presentation. Thank you !
Hope you're doing well sir.
With the millions of new gun owners 2020 has brought us these r great drills, hope they find this channel and learn it right from the start.
oh please... most veteran shooters ignore valuable advice like that. This needs to be mandatory before anyone is allowed to fire their first round!
Thats me and boy am i glad i saw this video first, going to the range later today for the first time on a pistol.
That's me. Just bought my first gun and this video is golden.
I just sent this video to a friend who just purchased her first firearm. Thank you for all your instructional videos to both of you
I did the same! The person I sent it to is a pretty experienced shooter, but just bought their first gun if there own.
This video is just what I needed to watch. I just bought a new gun and I'm heading to the range for the first time tomorrow for a beginner lesson. This young lady is an excellent teacher!
An entire class in 20mins! Great material. I loved the line "try this at home and make sure there's no ammo around" while she's standing in front of boxes and boxes of ammo. Funny! Thanks Lena!
🤣😂
I'm a new shooter. Have only been to the range three times. Your video is the textbook preparation everyone needs before hitting the range. It just makes sense. Thank you!
I love this video...I am just starting to teach my 11 yr old girl to shoot and learning gun safety and basics. This young lady teaching is doing such a great job, cute as a button, and I can see my daughter would relate to her much more than listening a guy. Thank you for this vid.
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You Lena
My wife is a brand new shooter, I mean BRAND new, she has never even shot a gun yet. We started out with where the barrel should always be pointed, after I showed her what the barrel was. Moved on from there to what all the other parts are called, then basic handling and grip.
I left her this morning with the gun, an empty magazine, some snap caps and what to look for on CZcams. She found you and your videos and I am SOOOO glad she did. I have watched you and your family on various shooting shows and I know she is going to be learning from the best.
So I get a picture today at work of her on the bed, the iPad with your video showing, the gun laying there, our dog, and her message was “Practicing”. I Love Her. When I got home from work she showed me the drills you shared in this video and I was VERY impressed. Last night she did not know anything about proper handling and safety. When she showed me the correct way to pick up a pistol from the table and her trigger finger was out and laying straight along the frame, I knew she was paying attention and learning from a pro.
She is going to go thru ALL the videos you have links to and is excited to be learning the safe, correct way to enjoy our sport. We will both be going to a formal class at a range soon and even though I have been shooting for a long time I am sure I will be learning something and becoming a better shooter too.
Keep up the good work, you are helping those are just learning as well as those of us, like me, with some years of bad habits and practices.
I think the strong hand thumb mag release is better in doing combat/speed loads because I'm reaching for my spare simultaneously. And when doing a tactical load, it's better because you're holding your spare with your off hand.
As a male vet 42 years of age. With tactical experience. I find this to be excellent. And a primary lesson. Well done. Please keep it up. This is a great lesson. This may be my new militia training sequence. Outstanding!
Long comment so please read all the way through... First, excellent video for the newbies!
I am a newbie and my wife and I are just getting into this for home defense. This style of drill is just what we needed before we go to the range and just start blasting rounds. It makes sense that the most important thing is to be familiar and comfortable with it first. I have been pushing these drills on my wife daily (sometimes with resistance) and it is working. But I found something today that might be good for a video for the newbie home defense people.
The power went out this evening and I had an idea... I got the pistol from its secure place, ensured it was clear and only had dummy rounds available, and handed it to my wife. I handed it to her and encouraged (insisted) that she take it and do the drills in the dark.
We spent this next hour picking it up and going through all the motions in complete darkness. Here is what I learned...
In the home defense scenario, it is likely that you keep the firearm (whatever it is) in your nightstand. The scenario is that you are awakened by the noise and reach for it in the dark. Simply going through these motions in the dark has made us much more comfortable with a pistol in the house I'm sure will make us more effective on the range as well.
Just my two cents. Great job with your videos and keep keeping it real for us normal folks. Thanks.
Thank you. My first Training Class is in a week. December 9, 2023. Just bought a 9mm for personal protection. Im 66, recently retired. Here in Southern Arizona its getting real. Buying a long gun next.
Just got my LTC and after watching this, I was clearly not ready for the range. This filled in the gaps. I’m a visual learner and this helped tremendously. Thanks!
Thank you for this. I'm new owner, and heading into the range is so intimidating. Having these basics down gives me more confidence
As a leftie who shoots a 1911 I use my trigger finger to drop my mag. When I do it that way i do not have to move my grip at all and the mag release is right there. I would encourage any one rightie to put an ambi mag release on their gun and try dropping the mag with their trigger finger. Great video even for an old shooter like me.
Thank you Dan. I notice I have time to use my trigger finger to hit the magazine release with my trigger finger as I use my support hand to grab another magazine. I don't think the support hand should take the time to do anything else.
I must be missing something here, or my CZ Shadow is different? My mag release is on the left and I use my right thumb (I'm right handed) while left hand is reaching for new mag. I'm def no expert but that seems better than turning the gun or whatever. Is my release in an unusual spot? I've had a fair bit of experience with other guns but I can't remember if they were different.
@@kirkc9643 No, generally semi-auto handguns have the mag release situated on the left side, behind the trigger and in front of the grip, unless it is gun that has ambidextrous release or is specifically a left handed model/configuration.
@@One000Suns So that is the same as my CZ. Why wouldn't a right handed person then just use their right thumb, instead of long it the way shown in the video?
Kirk Claybrook some people have short thumbs and can’t reach the release without breaking their grip.
How I wish I saw this video before going to the range yesterday, this is well explained. I'm also a first timer and my hubby bring me to the range as my birthday gift. Thank you for sharing your knowledge for free.
I grew up hunting with rifles and shotguns all my life. Recently purchased my first pistol and am hesitant to carry because I am not comfortable with my weapon yet. This video has mentally put me at ease knowing how to gain that comfort. Thanks!
I've only come across you a couple times on CZcams. I enjoy shooting a whole lot and pride myself on excellent gun handling and shooting habits, but learn lots from you. You, Lena, are quite simply an outstanding instructor. You have an easy going, down to earth, very clear, matter of fact and to the point style. It's a gift and the perfect persona for a firearm instruction. I'll watch your videos anytime. Keep 'em coming as they are excellent!
This is the most valuable video I've come across yet! The skills taught here may seem elementary but I can guarantee everyone (new shooters and experienced) will learn something here. Excellent video and so relevant, thank you!!
Bought my first gun and am learning and practicing proper range edict before I arrive at the range. It’s been years since I fired a gun so I’m starting from scratch again. I’m hoping it’s like riding a bike.
As a novice, this is probably the best video I’ve seen so far. Thank you so much!
Great work , Lena. Don’t forget that newbies don’t necessarily understand what it means to “clear” a gun or how to do it. That would be a great 5 minute video.
I would also try to slow down how fast you move your arms - it’s not a competition.
@@sunnydeng9263 No. A lot of states don't require courses to buy a gun.
slow becomes smooth, smooth becomes fast!
This is really great! Everyone should watch this. New and experienced shooters alike. Even experienced shooters can learn from this on how to explain certain concepts. She explains it so well!
Lena is not a great shooter, but also a phenominal presenter. Every step has been crafted to deal with the many ways one can manipulate their gun. Thanks for the great info, y'all!
This is by far the best video that I have seen in years about first time gun handling! Obviously your longtime gun competition experience lead to this very simple but very efficient explanations about how to handle your handgun for the first time !!It works perfectly for me ! Thank you ! God bless!!
I love the last point she makes " be sure there is no ammo around or in sight" a there is like 50,000 rounds right behind you.🙂 great video for beginners.
Thank you for these amazing lessons. I would be helpful if you could zoom when demonstrating key concepts and using slow motion would be cool as well. You are a great teacher.
Excellent video! Thank you!
Thank you Lena! What a great teacher!
Thanks Lena! Another great video. I've been doing drills at home but this video is the best. I was going to head to the range tomorrow but now I'm going to take the week to run these drills like crazy.
What an amazing young lady.... it’s like she’s done this before!
Love the ease of those demos. Quality info and great content.
Thanks!
Excellent video, thanks Lena
By far one of the best educational videos I’ve seen. I’m a trainer for a major company and this video implements excellent fundamentals. Taking my first cc class in the morning. I feel much better!
Great video! I enjoyed the lesson and want to share it with my daughters. Lena is an excellent teacher and entertaining at the same time. Two good traits to have. Thanks, Mark
Thank you for the class, huge help.
Excellent video and instructions for anyone. Thanks Lena!
I consider myself an experienced shooter.. nobody ever told me to put my index finger on the front of the mag. Thank you. I don’t mind learning for improvement or a better experience.
This was excellent. I have not gone shooting in a really long time, and recently purchased a couple of pistols because I am thankfully in a state that allows me to do so now. It's nice to get a really solid refresher like this to get me feeling comfortable again. I am planning on going to the range either tonight or tomorrow, and I feel great about getting back in there again after watching this!
I am excited to eventually participate in competition!
Fantastic video, great job.
You guys are always such a pleasure to watch and listen too.
Great information. Thank you for sharing.
I just bought my first pistol and this was SO helpful! The range is an intimidating place and it’s great to be able to learn so much at home. Thank you!
Excellent training drills. Thank you.
Love these instructional videos. You're a natural teacher.
I've been shooting for years. I enjoyed your presentation.
What a great teacher she is! She loves what she´s doing and her enthusiasm is catching :-)
Awesome! Thank you for the refresher, I hope more will watch this.
Thank you for taking the time to help everyone!! 💜
One of the best training video’s I’ve ever seen
She watches the Kingdom while the King is taking a nap....
Very helpful. Thanks for providing this.
Thank you for the training videos!!!
This is an awesome video, not just for new shooters but experienced as well.
Can never drill fundamentals too much.
My reaction time hitting the play button for this video is almost as fast as Lena's reaction time shooting a gun..Well maybe not, but it's still damn fast.
So glad I found this video. I'm loving her instructions and doing the drills.
Wow. Excellent class. Very well presented.
Loved loved loved loved this! New gun owner and learning everything I can. Thank you for the information, and it was fun to watch too!!! Wished I had some of that ammo though...lol.
I agree . It would be nice to have that much to play war with targets . Oh well we all can’t be that lucky .
I heard that Lena taught Jerry everything he knows. lol
Lena, what a great presentation. Appreciate your expertise and humor. Thanks
LOL!!!
Loved this video 🙌🏽 thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for posting!
Excellent lesson for noobs. Very well presented and makes a lot of sense, TY
Good to remind us older folk as well.
Thank you for a great tutorial... would you recommend snap caps for dry firing🤔...never to old to learn something new for muscle memory 👍🇺🇸💪🏻😎
Thank's Lena we all need to remember and practice
Thanks for posting this.
Thank God I found this video. My wife thinks I'm mean for trying to teach this stuff to her. This video might just save her life...and our marriage!
Richard Mobley Sounds like you picked the wrong one buddy.
Same here. My wife has a mental block when I attempt to teach or explain any technical subjects.
Nope. Husbands should never teach their spouses how to shoot. Send them to the school of their choice, and if they are taught everything that you know, they will feel like they learned it on their own.
I've seen it so many times, where someone else that teaches/trains the same way as I do, and even uses the same words, can actually get them to listen. Same way for friends spouses, I can teach them the same thing as their husbands, but they listen to me. Don't try to understand, just live with it.
@@johnthompson9625 why you think this is so? Sounds like trust issues, or doesn't have much confidence in their partner. Perhaps a good litmus test for single men!
@@southerncharity7928 I've been training for over 25 years, and I've seen it 100's of times. It's not a trust issue, because they trust the husband to work, help with the kids, do everything else,... just not teach them anything. I've seen it in cooking, Sunday school, sports, DRIVING, and a broad spectrum of other things. You can be 'trusted', but still not be thought of as capable of teaching.
Happens both ways, but I've seen it in spades when it comes to firearms.
*heavy breathing*
"Why are you looking at my daughter like that?"
"I'm not, i'm looking at the ammo."
Awesome!!
Very good LOL
Nice. That's a good one.
Just watched this video again you are really a natural born teacher no kidding! I have a friend who wants to come to the range with me next time I go... I sent her this vid I know it'll be a huge blessing for her so she'll feel more confident! TY!

Fantastic Video! Thank you
Fantastic. Great pointers

Im looking to purchase Gun Belt Rig what Brand do you or your father use? Or what is a good one to Buy
@@paullarocca3070 Definitely not the place to comment, and definitely not the place to ask that question. Plenty of information on this platform and I think if you do a little digging you will find what you need.
👌🏼
I respectfuly disagree with you sir. I Thought that this was a decent question. And I did my research and it's been difficult in this time. Lena and Jerry are knowledgeable and I dident think they would mind a question from one of there subscribers
@@paullarocca3070 I don't think that they typically respond to questions on CZcams that I've noticed but I believe they do on Face Book. Also John Lovell has a series of videos on Gun Belt Rigs. His CZcams site is the Warrior Poet Society if that helps. All the best.
A free gun manipulation lesson.
They are 100€ each where I live...
So this video is a lot of bang for your buck :>
seems like it it would be too expensive to get very good. I suspect this is the point.
@@Shep01 Italy has pretty good gun laws but access to ranges is sometime iffy.
Gotta subscribe to it (120€ yearly, + inflation) then you pay each time you go(understandably so, renting the lane and pay for ammo and cleanup and target replacement) and then you pay for each course whenever there is one.
Also, the closest range from me is not very welcoming. Went there several time to shoot some 7.5 J pistol and honestly it felt like I was annoying them by just being there and asking for a lane.
Overall, pricing is understandable, but forking 200-300 € for basic manipulation...
I'm confused. CZcams is free here, and is free everywhere else. As far as hands on lessons here in the states, I'd doubt any credible places that'd do them for free.
Gabriele Magnabosco that’s crazy. In slovakia where I live I have our club range about 6 km far, club membership is 35 €/year. According Slovak laws it’s mandatory membership to be able to have long semiautomatic firearm (no waiting period). No need to become gun club member for own and carry short firearm or for hunters. Once you are club member, no other fees apply. And since I reload (also for rifle) I don’t have to pay crazy ammo prices on the shelf. On the other hand, becoming club member has huge advantage too for other reasons - lot of great and experienced guys will teach you with proper firearm manipulation and shooting techniques and for free!
always fun, safe and AWESOME !!
Thank you, I love your teaching for newbies, like myself!
She's a spunkier version of Jerry...didn't know that was possible!
Good genes at work.
Ha! Sure is...father's daughter for sure
And shes cuter! Not that Jerry isn't cute...lol
I was thinking the same way. Her facial features and mannerisms are just like her dad’s lol.
She also routinely out shoots him.
It looks like Olivanders behind her...lol...Awesome...
All those freedom seeds.
Lol took me a couple seconds to get that but, yes, it absolutely does. FORTUNA MAJOR!
Super informative! Thanks!
Thank You for the tips and lessons! Beginner here. Watching and learning before purchasing.
