This man needs a Ted Talk. I can rarely make it through an entire interview without pausing or fast forwarding, but he's got a gift. Straight up poetic. Poignant. Amazing story.

Ted? There's kev Mac videos and paradigm media. Don't sell us out.

wow sad
8 years off dope for me. 3 years off methadone. Hardest thing in my life to overcome. Props to anyone and everyone to was able to swim against the tide and make it out alive.
I'm jammed up on suboxone
I’m coming down rn currently at 78mg 2mg a week
Step 1
@@XxGlaciersOfIcexX I know it can feel terrible when thinking about coming completely off suboxone. I had to do it 5 times before it finally stuck. The thing that worked for me was cutting the strips into 1/16” wide pieces and took them only when I had to (this is of course after tapering down to 2 mg’s per day) best of luck to you and anyone else kicking dope, subs, or methadone.
Liquid handcuffs..props to you for making it out alive
I'm 38 months clean off heroin and it always makes me smile on the inside to hear it when another person has made it out alive. This guy has a way with words. This is an awesome interview
He sure does have a way with words... Congratulations to you on the 38 months!!! That's awesome! Life has bad days where you've probably thought about using, but you've been strong! Keep it up Champ!!

The irony of people saying "he finally went crazy" when in reality he just woke up from being crazy.
Real talk.
Well put
Wow. From a 68-year old white retired guy whose only law violation was a couple of speeding tickets, this is an amazing story. I have the utmost respect for DJ and applaud Herc for putting this sort of message out there. I love Herc's videos and have just ordered DJ's book. Thanks to both of you guys for enriching my life and that of many young men who may be tempted to go down the wrong path.
Tell me your story , and what advice do you have for a lost 27 yr old addict in nyc
What does being white have to do with it plenty of us white peoples have been in these same situations. Thanks to the downfall of western civilization and the boomers destroying the very fabric of This nation.

Ghost is a great story teller.
He got that OG narrator voice too
Beyond a great story teller. He found his purpose.
Seems to be one of the Best , Yes Sir
Yes he is.. That verizon story is inspiring
Amazing
Him taking that job at Verizon wireless where he was twirling the sign shows true humbleness. And God saw that and blessed him even further with the acting job!
Yup, he could have said F that. And kept that arrogant spirit. He chose the right path. Takes a real man to do that, he didn't know what would happen yet did it anyway.
God doesn't bless you with jobs and acting careers or money, the root of all evil....his gift is being able to talk to other people and hopefully help them with addiction...and to let you know, I believe in God and I'm an addict in recovery...I pray, not everyday , but I do pray and I pray for everyone other than myself because i feel selfish, so I offer all my suffering to those who have a harder life than all of us , including me, you too sour diesel and DJonly at the end of my prayer I ask if I am worthy enough for God to give me the want and the strength to kick opiates...

@@room616oc it's your mind, if u start paying attention (from the first moment when u wake up, til the last thing before u fall asleep) & begin to question that voice in ur head, what it is telling you (im bored, i have this problem, that problem, this complaint, etc., etc.)& realize that u don't have to believe everything that you think, that the voice in your head is not only not looking out for your best interests, it is trying to get u killed (isn't that true?) that's a good place to start.

This is your best interview yet Herc. Appreciate what you’re doing.

Big Herc and DJ are inspirations to show that anyone can be successful after failure. Both have found the God within and a salute to them for sharing their story. Awesome.
DJ Verrett is an inspiration for everyone. His story brought a tear to my eye. I would give anything but my daughter to be able to meet him.
I admire this brother. When I was young everybody said I'd end up in prison or dead. I became Muslim at 17, then joined the military (I hated it), with a wife and 4 kids decided to get my Bachelor's (high honors) at 36 while working 40-50 hours and full-time courses, then my Masters, traveled 30 countries, lived overseas, etc. I still don't know how I pulled it off. I made my kids attend all of my academic award ceremonies to see they can do even more. All of my childhood friends are shocked at my life, I've done more by 40 years old than most in a lifetime. It was hard as hell, but I never gave up.
Ugh, I cherish never feeling that fear, madness and illness ever again, here's to health and life! Suffering is only a waste without growth in the long run. DJ your story is so strong and terrifically told, superb title too. God showing up strong when called upon. You are not alone in that respect brother.
Real talk... I love that he gives props and does not act like he knows everything... very humble.... honesty... talking like that, WILL save lives.. thats a true definition of a hero... he talks like he has N.A. recovery aswell.... very cool...I relate to him.... thank you ...I like the part that he said "everything in my past is an asset"... he killed it.....very cool
This man Is an big inspiration I just beat addiction and prison now I'm trying to get me and my 3 kids a better life so god bless bro
I couldn't imagine a Worst Hell on Earth situation then to be Dope sick while locked up.
The best way to describe Dope sick is to imagine having the Worst Flu in your life while having a Nervous breakdown. Now add in your locked up. Hell on Earth.
You hit that right on the head.
That's crazy. How long does being dope sick last?
exactly what i was thinking a living nightmare would be bad enough at your own home let alone in the joint!
add in your bones aching, skin burning, you can't sleep for 5 days straight, can't keep food down, damn

“Just send me some pictures dog, and continue to take my phone calls” I been in before I felt that💪🏽💯
DJ has an amazing story he turned a curse into a blessing. He has done things to turn a negative mindset into a positive life of humility. It's truly a beautiful thing to see how he changed his life around and transformed a negative lifestyle into a successful lifestyle. He learned to love himself in ways that he couldn't ever imagine he could during his younger years of life and he is free from prison and remains to maintain a positive mindset and lifestyle. I personally love to hear success stories like DJ's accomplishing things in life that so many can only dream of living! I send nothing but peace, love, & respect from here in St Louis. May the most high God continue to shower DJ with blessings and the strength to live life for many more years to come!

Nah bruh HERC & jay are way different.. I listen to Jay,but dude got way to many stories for only doing 10 yrs! . Hell my mom's old BF had stories & he was in & his whole Life, mostly in! Jay will drop a white dude's name, but not so much a black guys... Pay attention to that. It makes me wonder why🤔
First of all: Respect to DJ, that's one hell of a story!
Second of all: Respect to that CO, who saw that DJ changed his life and gave him 4 years off. Ressources (mainly taxes) saved, ex-prisoner empowered and relieved and the CO can work on another case. Being in the process of learning prisoner rehabilitation in my country myself, I find this very encouraging and not only because some of my childhood friends had to go to prison or jail themselves as well.

That moment of clarity in the life of an addict. I can relate and I’m very happy and thankful the brother Ghost man came through it a better man. It brings tears to my eyes when he was relating the raw pain. Damn.
His life is amazing, he reminds me a lot of Jamie Foxx the way he tells a story, just fucking fantastic.. I’m so happy for this guy.

I believe that Ghost interview was the most inspirational story ever presented by Big Herc! It would make an amazing and sensational film produced and directed by the right executive team!
Love this cats story. I have a story somewhat like him. I left the dope alone once I got sentenced and my life changed big time. I was able to travel to Asia yearly, got married at about 45, got married, had a son at age 48 and planning on having another child at 54 (my wife is 24 younger than myself). Life as even good clean and sober. Respect to you.👌🏽🤘🏽

My dad did 17 years to the door so I have a fascination with the prison stories… he’s home now but I still have the obsession of the stories… things my 2nd time watching this one because it was truly truly profound…. I’m never going to prison if I can help it… but these stories are still super inspiring
Inspirational journey through life
Damn, this just gave me chills. I’m 38 now. I’ve done 4 years in prison. Got out and continued doing wrong. Got arrested in April by the department of homeland security for smuggling illegal aliens into south Florida from the Bahamas and was released with a pretrial ankle monitor on. Changed my ways of thinking and started using my talent to make music. I know my music is more than good enough to make a career out of but I been thinking how I feel like I’m past that age of being able to become famous for my talent. This kinda just gave me the answer I been wondering myself since I chose to get behind the mic in a professional studio. This mama story really sounds like mine almost. Nice video.
Damn hella proud of this brotha his story is amazing keep pushing.
This is a story of when the right person mixes with the right people. Truly inspirational. Lots of people offered to help him (God bless them) and he had the heart to take their help and make the best of it.
“When I abandoned the life my thinking created, and I can live the life my soul intended me to live.. I’m supposed to live the quality of life I live now. That other shit, that was me doing all that.”
Every time he humbled himself the blessings came and then multiplied. Amazing lesson, love it.

Word of advice when it comes to addiction, never tell anyone what you want to accomplish (obviously this is circumstantial, aka keep what you want to accomplish to yourself and a close circle), only what you already have, keep the goals to yourself cause either way only actions hold weight, also no matter how small take satisfaction in the goals you've set for your self, goals and dreams are the gateway to self disciple and are accomplishments on themselves. Take care man, love you
You will❤⭐❤
You come first. If you ain't doing for yourself it's a lot harder. Also don't count the days. Just hustle right thru it. I got a few years sober now. It only worked when I desired more from life.
