    5:08 you nailed it, Adam. Most people, include myself, should spend time away from the golf ball, range, and just drill the body movements until they're sound and balanced. I'm always itching to get to the range and see how it works only to have wasted so much time.

    Excellent video! I recently discovered a few George Knudsen swing videos on CZcams. When I am hitting the ball well, my left knee works a lot like his when he was younger. His left heel comes off the ground on the backswing, more than Adam and Grant, less than Jack. It looks like his downswing re-centering includes the looping of his left knee and emphatically dropping the heel to the ground. (Can crush...!) The downswing weight shift should start before the backswing has completed, and that is something few amateurs master. After watching George, I realized on my good days my weight shift/knee swoop/heel drop are my timing mechanism, and really get my left side out of the way and up. On bad days my left side just seems stuck, and every shot is weak and right.

    I have really struggled with this. The crushing of the can and the lowering of the belt buckle is brilliant. Dropping the buckle and then pushing up with that foot stops me from sliding which is absolutely killing my golf swing. It helps me wall up as they say. I can fully visualise this. Love it thank you 🙏🏼

    The position and my left knee has been a major issue for me. I was moving my knee like JN across my body. I changed to bending my knee towards the ball and everything started to fall into place. I am now well balanced on my backswing, and can hold it at the top of my swing no problem. Combining that with squashing the can under my left foot and my swing is feeing more natural. I am getting more loft and hitting it straighter. Still plenty of practice to be done, but I really feel like I am on the right track.
    Many thanks Adam for your excellent advice.

I play to a 5, but I'm working to get to even and I feel like the consistency with which I strike solidly is where I can unlock the next level. Definitely going to try the downswing drill! what can i say. after playing off a 2 handicap for many years i began to loose my natural and physical abilities i am now off 19 and really struggling with movement and sense of direction.of where my swing should be. after watching this video i thought id try it out on the course just playing a few holes. after a short time i began to get a feel on what i should be trying to achieve with my swing. it helped me slot my backswing into the right position i had not felt for many years. and squashing the can sequence proved that i wasnt getting through onto my front foot. first few shoots where poor but then using the squashing sequence before i hit the ball i actually felt boy i'm beginning to get some feel out of this.
    instead of duffing them and duck hooking the ball left. i began to get my inside to out swing back by getting through on my front foot. only played a few holes but i can now see a way forward. i do suffer with movement problems but using those 2 sequences you showed me my body started to move naturally and with no stress surprisingly and very little effort on my body, i still hit the ball a little to low but the old right to left draw i always had seemed to return . thank you Adam its only early days but you've given me some hope. I can see a way forward

    A local instructor told me I had "too much sway" in my left leg. The belt buckle and crush the can really articulates what should be happening! Also, don't do what does not feel natural is great also. I read someplace that the left leg should finish as if leaning into a brick wall, that certainly applies. Great lesson!

      I can see where this may sound contradictory, but with moderate flexibility it's not that difficult. Try taking an address position (no club), pretend you're near impact, then push your belt buckle up and around while staying over the ball.

    Hi Adam, great stuff. Thanks. I believe when I shift weight towards the left heel it creates more jamming or less space for turning (or thus pushing up). Can we say that? But when I move towards the balls of left shoe (In my case I feel the left knee turns..but may be more downward squeeze necessary?) I have more space for turning. Can you please comment...Thanks.

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  Před 4 lety

      Don,
      Thanks for the comment. I agree that Grant gives it that look, but my comments are general in nature. As you may know, the Stack & Tilt guys are Golfing Machine guys (the name was given to them by Golf digest), which is more of a general golf geometry book. It was written about 50 years ago by a recreational golfer who was an expert in geometry.
      Turns out his ideas were based in fact, now that 3D motion capture can measure these things. Snead, Bobby Jones, Nicklaus etc etc had a lot of this, generally speaking.

    From personal experience the worst thing is trying to stay completely centered and not allowing the head to move. When I turn my head with the chest in the backswing, I get a balanced weight shift that activates the lower body and legs
    to shift the shoulders and arms through and to the finish. When I see this in a mirror, I notice that the head turn is minimal though it feels like it must be a foot. So the secret seems to be a smooth and tension-free swing around the body utilizing the whole anatomy.

    Hi I’m Dean Munro, 3 times getting out of bunker player, the only way Dean Munro will improve his golf. Is for Phil Mickelson to change his name to Dean Munro.

    At 1:51 did you mean to say the knee has not passed the *right* hip? Because it has clearly passed the left hip.

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  Před 3 lety

      It has not passed the left hip if you factor the hip turn. Look at where belt buckle has turned to, then factor the hip alignment off that. I hope this helps.

      Winner of a video, I have been researching "how do you start the golf downswing swing" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Penamillorn Peerless Prevalence - (do a search on google ) ? It is a smashing one off guide for discovering how to learn an effective golf swing method without the headache. Ive heard some super things about it and my neighbour got amazing results with it.

    Take a look at Gregg Norman and quite comparing swings of different era's. They are NOT the same. I knew a young man with zero knee movement who had phenomenal distance. He was the only player I ever saw who could fly the ball over the trees and into the practice area behind the range at Black Diamond Ranch in Florida including touring pros. He told me he copied Norman's suppressed knee action of his prime. He just wound up tighter. More powerful spring. Nicklaus was a leg driver of the era of Miller and Casper, other big leg drivers.

      Naturally there are is a significant range of motion from successful players over the years. This video (like my others) is designed only to lay out general parameters, not to say there is only one specific way.

      Kevin,
      I do take divots sometimes. The turf at Mediterra is a thick Paspalum grass, it's easy to scrape the ball off.
      Thanks for watching the video.

    I seem to do better with a very stable base. Nicholas was a great athlete, but not a good example of how most golfers should swing. Of course what do I know.

      Thanks Glenn. Generally, the more motion, the more power, I think that’s why he did what he did. Certainly not all types excess motion are beneficial, but we have to look for a happy medium that helps us play well.
      Sounds like less works better for you.
