    It’s worth mentioning that the 880 does NOT mute between stations while tuning. Many radios (including the Eton I believe) have this annoying “feature”.

    Todd, I’ve been watching and re-watching many of your videos as I’ve been matrimonially approved to purchase a new rig, to compliment my Radiwow 108, and Tecsun 9700DX and your very complete, and concise reviews always make each radio look attractive even with their quirks and oddnesses, which you always diplomatically highlight to your audience. That said, I’m vacillating between an Eton Elite Executive, Tecsun PL-880, 660, 300, and the list goes on! Point is your excellent reviews make me want them all! Thanks (I think)

      The Elite Executive is a good balance of them all. I use one daily.

      @@todderbert Thank You, I’ve narrowed it down to the Eton Exec or the PL-880 (the ergonomics/knobs are more appealing) maybeI’ll toss a coin there’s only a $10 difference between them.

      @todderbert  Před 3 lety +1

      @@Gogogordy1 If you need RDS, the AIR Band, and want to run off of AAs then the Executive. If you want smooth Shortwave SSB tuning, the Tecsun.

      Not to complicate your decision process, but take a look at the Xhdata D-808. It's also a pretty impressive rig, particularly on MW.

    It is one of my favourite portables. It has so good sound... Thanks buddy! It is not a bad contender in MW the filters do their job, but I miss the Sync function of the Tecsun PL-660

    Very nice and I have an 880. But have you noticed that it seems like all Tecsun radios seem to have about the same style. Also on this particular radio I can pick up all of the Chicago superstations all day long, notably 670, 720, 780, and 890. Higher frequencies seem less audible although 1000 will come in sometimes. Also here too, I have heard an increase of music stations on the MW. But I still wonder how the tuning works? Does it still have a variable capacitor? I have this model as well and you can go to the very top of the SW dial and then start over from 1711. It may not be DSP but it’s made to do this but I don’t know how. I’m not actually willing to disassemble it to find out but I’m sure someone has.

    Hej Todderbert thanks for the bandscan I do not have this radio but I do have Tecsun PL-990x and my absolute favorite Tecsun Tecsun H-501x. The Tecsun PL-990x. can I really recommend and the favorite Tecsun H-501x but they are expensive radio devices but I think they are worth every penny. But Todderbert Tecsun PL-880 I think it seems to be a very nice radio too, so I am thinking of buying it. A cheaper radio that I think you should do a band scan on again is the Katio KA-390. It's a wonderful radio okay a little simpler radio but for FM and MV Wow as you now. I do not know if Katio KA-390 can be obtained today It was a little hard to get it delivered to Sweden but I succeeded. Take care have nice day.

    What abut LW? I try to catch them but in vain.

  • @colescuckooclockshop754

    I just received this for Christmas. Been busy and charging the battery now. One thing I notice is that the battery door seems flimsy compared to my 660 and 9700dx. Would you recommend getting spares, or am I overthinking this.

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  Před rokem

      you could try a little bit of foam on the inside of the compartment to see if it will help the door fit tighter.

      @@todderbert I was talking more about the door itself and possible the stand. Is it worth having spares for such an expensive radio? Or do you think with care it should hold up? Wheee do you get that type of foam by the way?

      @@colescuckooclockshop754 A hobby shop, or hardware store. If something doesn't feel right on the radio, you may want to contact the seller and get a spare part. I sold my 880 awhile back, but I don't remember the door being a problem.

    I have the 880 and love it. The sound is amazing. I also have the 990. It has good sound to but the 880 has a slight edge over the 990 in sound. They are both very sensitive radios. Also I bought one of those turk loop antennas. Didn't do much. Made a loud buzzing noise on my 880, and when I tried it on my Tecsun pl-310ET it didn't make any difference. So I sent it back. But I am very happy with my 880
