    I wasn't exactly looking for this, but I am glad I found it.
    Had to pop open my controller a few days ago cuz the right direction on the D pad wasn't working, here I thought they'ed be little tak buttons, but it turns out their little blister buttons same as in those old atari joysticks, albeit a bit smaller.
    BUT...
    this little dark gray plastic horseshoe thingy fell out, and I had no clue where it came from. From your video, it looks like it attaches to a little white plastic pin on the thumbstick. So...uh, thanks for the perfect fluke fix I guess lmao. Rock on

    • @luchvk
      @luchvk Před 4 lety +5

      That could just be the flux burning. It's definitely something to be very aware of though. A good principle to go by is "high heat, short contact". You want to melt the solder quickly so that the heat transfer to the rest of the board is limited. There's more to it than that but that's a general idea.

    • @lucidbarrier
      @lucidbarrier Před 4 lety +4

      It's the flux burning off. If you want to start doing things like this, you can buy a soldering station like a Weller kit. It regulates the temperature so you don't burn up your tips or burn off the solder pads. A good flux is advisable too to help it stick. One of his joints @8:21 wasn't done correctly near the bottom. Maybe he just didn't see it because he's recording.

    Helpful video. I just replaced my left stick with a PS4 analog and the springs are different and feels very odd to me. Also the analog stick doesn't sit on the motherboard well so I had to shave down the feet. I can save time by replacing the bottom with the original and replace the spring with the original. Essentially I'll be refurbishing the module. Next time I'll be ordering the correct analog stick but now I know how to customize the tension because maybe some ppl like the PS4 tension on the left side

However, the bottom of the hood on the new sticks is getting caught on the green sensor housing causing it to not register right and down inputs almost at all. Is it possible to remove the sensor housing entirely or is it absolutely neccessary for it to keep the sensor in place. Can you think of any solutions to this problem? Ive also considered getting a needle and applying glue to the tip and putting that one the inside of the sensor so that when placed back on the analog box, it would still be able to spin and move but just not have the green housing impeding motion. Thank you for your time.

    Please someone respond what does a broken Tension do to the controller I need to know and also I feel like the only person with this problem

    • @chrisg8p
      @chrisg8p Před 5 lety

      Hello 1 month late but whatever if it’s broken tends to never reset its original position but that’s either stickiness in the joystick section or broken spring(this is very very unlikely) this video is mainly if you want to replace you’re spring for less or more(mainly this option) for a competitive edge for say the aiming the joystick(right one) cuz the more tension the more precise you are with aiming. Understandable?

    • @chrisg8p
      @chrisg8p Před 5 lety

      kurtis howard yeah you can fix it doing what this video is showing you and you could add more tension at the same time for better aiming.

    You don't need to recalibrate the module after unsoldering it an taking it apart?!

      @josh0147 Před 5 lety

      Rondo101 Xbox waiit never mind im thinking of the newer s2 version but if it works the same just lift the thumbsticks off and use the key that came with it to tighten it

    • @rondo1015
      @rondo1015 Před 5 lety

      Josh Foulkes yep, knew about the new one. Weighing up getting the v2 vs changing the spring on my old one. Invalidates the warranty though and mine is only 9 months old. V2 will allow you to tension up to 360 controller stiffness. Not sure what equivalent spring that is though.

    • @josh0147
      @josh0147 Před 5 lety

      Rondo101 Xbox yeah seems a bit pointless, if youre really desperate you could get foam stick rings to add resistance. I wanna get the new pad but it will make my bank account dry😂

    • @pyk_
      @pyk_ Před 4 lety

      Suska In order for it to make a secure electrical connection, yes you will have to solder it. You have to de-solder it to get the joysticks off in the first place so it’s just the same process in reverse. Soldering isn’t very difficult, I’d encourage you to try if you’re interested, though you should practice on something less expensive first. Also, it’s not gooey, it’s molten metal.
