    Hi Mark, keep your chin up mate, you’ll catch one soon. You & the Ginger Fisherman are my favourite Pike CZcamsrs. I blanked on Wednesday on my local canal but managed one on my local pit on Friday. I sat all day and had 2 runs after 3pm, landed one lost the other. It’s definitely tough at the moment on both the deads and the Lures…

      Thanks 👍Dave appreciate the kind words! Blanking is part and parcel of Pike fishing so better to be out than under the wife's feet 🤣

    It's nice to see videos on here that show the real side to fishing. I watch so many different fisherman and they are always bringing in the fish I dream of. I head to the bank full of confidence thinking I'm going to catch the same but week after week recently ive failed! You start to question yourself and what you are doing wrong. So it's nice to see a REAL video with a pro like yourself blanking. It resonates that it happens to all of us. So thank you for sharing not just your pb's and red letter day sessions, but days like this.
    Keep up the videos and I'm sure you'll be hauling them in on the next session.....

    Nice one Mark, it's always good to see you out on the bank, doing your thing. You know aswell as I do, that you will catch wen you have hungry fish infront of you, and they ain't always hungry. As you well know. Yeah I'm starting to feel your frustration mate. That's quite alot of sessions without a fish. Although I can remember going a couple of months without 'a take', in the past, and it's a very shitty thing to go through. The innevertable 'doubt' creeps in, and you're suddenly 'over-thinking' rigs and baits and, of course, venue choice. But again I'm not telling you anything that you don't already know. You 'know the old game', Mark. I know that you do, because watching you fish, is like watching myself fish. (And of course, I'm a legend in my own lunch time, in my head. Lol.)
    By the way, I loved the accompanying 'blues guitar music', an excellent choice of sound track for your 'January Blue's' video. Very 'moody', and apped. But back to the fishing. I was wondering if you ever try, or see anyone else try, to 'trot' a deadbait down stream, with the flow, or with a drifter float/sail float ? I know it's not as easy or straightforward as I just maked it sound, obviously, but wen 'the going gets tough, out come the crazy ideas, that sometimes aren't that crazy, as we later find out. So yeah I'm interested to know your thoughts on this alternative to a static deadbait approach, wen we're struggling for a take. Although I do appreciate that at our age (I'm 53) to stand there at the rivers edge and 'trot a pike float', down a windswept and bleak looking River Witham, like some kind of 1970s match angler, on steroids, is a bit like asking us to 'knock out a quick 20 press ups. It's kind of 'do-able', but do we really want to put ourselves through that ? So yeah I'm with you mate, but it's getting to 'that stage', now where you'll soon be more than happy to 'sell your granny', to get the rewards that you know that you deserve. There's been many a time, where I wud literally, 'do just about anything', just for a 'take', and that wud definitely of included 'selling my granny', lol.
    Anyway nice one Mark.
    Cheers.
    Mick.

      I was very tempted to trot some deads through the river the other day! It can be a deadly tactic used to do it a lot when they were running off the 20ft at ponderebridge!
      Always a pleasure to hear from you Mick 👍🎣

    Bless ya at least the water wasn't chocolate I broke my blank Wednesday had 2 Jack's, my brolly kept doing that so I retired it and bought a Matrix space brolly the one with the flat back great brolly. Don't be disheartening you won't catch sat at home got to be in it to win it.

    Good on you for sticking at it, and showing how you have to graft for any rewards when pike fishing mate. I usually groundbait my swim with chopped up old sardines and if I've got big sardines or herrings I chop the heads off them chop em up and use them as well. Creates a natural oily scent. Can sometimes make the difference. Also morrisons sell frozen whitebait that I use for grounbait as well. Just be sure to let it all defrost or it'll just float away. Hope your fortunes change soon with a big fat hungry one Buddy.

    • @Fishing4Pleasure
      @Fishing4Pleasure  Před rokem

      Cheers Paul! Groundbaiting on the rivers and drains works but you can have it all washed away if they run a drain off before or even while you're fishing

    • @paulstares48
      @paulstares48 Před rokem +1

      I never even considered that mate. I've never fished a drain, not sure there are any in Scotland, its mostly just loch and canal fishing here and the lock gates on the canal don't get opened in winter time very often as not many boats move at this time of year. I got one at 11.5lb yesterday on a jumbo herring with head chopped off. That ended a run of bad luck. 5 or 6 blanks then I snapped my trusty old shimano pike rod a couple of weeks ago when a 3lb fish took me straight into a weed bed. Still got the fish landed and returned safely though so it wasn't as bad as it could have been. I've noticed you sometimes clear the weed from your swim which is a great idea but I don't drive so if I'm on the canal myself I need to travel light.

      I'll be hitting the Lochs definitely in July,the missus is a Scot so we're often up there! Also hoping for a sneaky jaunt up in March

    • @paulstares48
      @paulstares48 Před rokem

      @Fishing for pleasure hope you get more luck than I do on the lochs!! find them really tough places to fish. If your going to loch lomond I would definitely consider going out on a boat, it won't be cheap but you can cover much more water and that's vital if you want to land on the fish there as it so vast.
