      Nitrogen displaces oxygen in high enough concentrations. You won’t even feel like you’re suffocating. You’ll just black out.

    • @Zoooker1
      @Zoooker1 Před 2 lety +29

      @@tyoung9012 In that respect nothing is safe. If you’re working with gn2 and it leaks, or even if you purposefully breathe it you’ll get lightheaded first. I don’t believe the idea that we can’t sense oxygen deprivation, carbon dioxide creates the urge to breathe but oxygen deprivation has it’s own subtle urge to breathe deeper to refresh your focus.

The density of co2 made it concentrate above the water, and the toxicity at only 5-10% causes choking and loss of conciousness within minutes. Also as for "why", they didn't smell it's pungent odor similar to carbonation (speaking of darwin awards), I looked it up, and it was a Russian birthday party, enough said.

      @@janekmuric i have been working with it for over 7 years and the company I work for does a thing every year where we submit pretty much any dumb stunt we can think of for them to do and video for our safety videos so I can pretty much tell you unless it requires massive amounts of liquid nitrogen (thou they have done a few that took in excess of a full semi-truck load just rarely) and an obscene amount of risk they have done it and shown us the videos of it. A pretty similar setup to this video is actually part of the basic orientation training videos we watch for the purpose of demonstrating just how safe the containers are. They are designed to make them pretty much impossible to make fail in a catastrophic way unless you deliberately do something to cause it. Pretty much anything that could happen by accident isn't going to make it fail in a catastrophic way. Some of these containers can even take being ran over by large vehicles and I have seen a few get pinned against walls pretty hard by forklifts backing up into them and barely had a dent in them. I doubt the small one he had here could take that kind of abuse but it's not intended to be used in a industrial environment where it had a reasonable chance of happening. What he has is a lab grade dewar but they are still pretty tough vessels.

      Literally anyone with access to a pool could do this, liquid nitrogen is stupidly cheap. That tub of it costs maybe 10-15 dollars max. In fact most of the stuff on this channel is pretty cheap, it’s just that the only people who actually buy it need it for pretty specific uses (or videos like this) so its cost isn’t common knowledge.

      @@cathifamjourney469 most places that sell welding supplies can sell liquid nitrogen. Normally it will cost you more to buy the container (called a dewar) than the liquid nitrogen does. Once you have the dewar refilling it is cheap. The problem is it will only keep in the dewar for a while before it all boils away (depending on the grade and size of dewar between a few hours and a week. Most places that use very much have specialized tanks they store it in except for the amount they need to use right away.

      You've got to remember that it takes more energy for something to exist as a gas than it takes to exist as a liquid, just as it takes more energy for something to exist as a liquid than a solid. And when something goes from a lower energy state to a higher energy state, it needs to take energy from the surroundings. So that pool would feel cold as.
