2 hall of fame quarterbacks at the height of their powers. Absolutely fantastic!
Before watching this tape, I didn't even know Marv Albert did play by play for NFL games, I always just thought he did basketball. Man, Albert was a straight up cold one in that booth. I miss the NFL, MLB, and NBA broadcasters of yesteryear or the 1990s.
Albert did NFL games as far back as the late 70s(while he was also doing nightly sportscasts for WNBC in New York), and until a few years ago, he did Westwood One Radio broadcasts.
2 of the all time great quarterbacks going head to head is always a treat to watch
Well said!
Good lord, I don't think anyone has ever thrown a more perfect spiral than Moon.
The 80s- 90s Oilers/Titans Offensive Line is one of the most underrated in the NFL history
Kelly wanted to bring The Run-N-Shoot offense to Buffalo but Mary Levy would not go along with the idea due to the lack of a Tight End so they used the K-Gun which used the aforemtioned Tight End.Kelly used this offense while in the USFL with the Houston Gamblers.
From 1988 to 1993 the Bills and Oilers had so many good games against each other
And they’ve had memorable games since -
Music City Miracle 1999
28-26 grinder 2003
35-34 thriller (complete with Marv Albert on play by play) 2012
34-31 shocker Monday Night Football 2021
@@STP43FAN1 the bills comeback game
@@jeffnelson1186 that was 1993 which the guy said
You in another classic video lol
They also had a good game in 1987, which the Bills won 34-30 in week 2.
I saw footage of Don Beebe doing a interview talking about the touchdown he scored on Chris Dishman and now I see it here at 11:38!!!!
Man football was so much better back in the 80’s and early 90’s and it’s crazy how the crowd was allowed to bring those blow horns but it made for a better atmosphere
Fr
real smashmouth!
The best era of NFL without a doubt..
Those oilers jerseys will always be 🔥
When it said “House of Pain” I thought that meant that the stadium was the stadium filled with heartbreak for the oilers
Oof
Both passing games, so fun to watch. Guys were taking ankles out there on that green cement they called turf
Two HOF quarterbacks in a CLASSIC
At least it is the the "Pro Football" HOF, otherwise Moon does not belong. 1 game over .500 for his career (3-7 in the playoffs), led the league in TDs ONCE, ZERO NFL All-Pro teams....
@@stevep8445 You know what, everyone loves football
@@stevep8445 Even though his NFL teams did not have much playoff success, Moon had great passing efficiency for a good number of years. His CFL career also helped him a bit. His career trajectory was pretty impressive. He won the Rose Bowl in 1978. NFL teams did not want to draft him, so he became a star in the CFL and won multiple championships before the Oilers signed him. And he threw for a lot yards in the NFL, since he stayed in the league until 2000.
Ironic that the Astrodome got the nickname “House of Pain” because of the great defense of Houston, considering how in later years they would consistently blow big leads in playoff games.
The games of my youth, those that made me a fan.
Back in time!
Man...Houston fielded some great teams back in the day.
A classic this was! Loved this time of the NFL! So much excitement and not so much overhyping!
I always appreciate the 80s throwbacks. Wished they showed more of them.
fr
This is why football is king!
I hope it comes back.
Wow
Like the late great DT Jerome Brown of the Eagles said, "They brought the house; we brought the pain."
What a play by Reed on the game winner. Juked 24 out of his shoes and then made a sick cut to the outside. Nasty
This was the same day as The Montana comeback against The Eagles. Great QB play on this day
God bless to all those that played in the Astrodome. I know it felt like falling on concrete
That's because it was concrete, concrete with green carpet on top of it.
Throwback ideas for this week:
Bengals/Ravens: week 13 2004 (wild 4th quarter)
Falcons/Dolphins: week 14 1995 (Jeff George vs Dan Marino)
Jets/Patriots: 2010 playoffs
This!
And for Colts vs 49ers, they should do either Jim Mora's “playoff” game in 2001, or the 1995 thriller where the Colts won.
They do the throwbacks and cohesion to the games being played now
@@decembersveryown5935 which is why I chose those 3 matchups
More throwback ideas -
Titans at Patriots week 5 2003 (seven lead changes, fan cheering for Red Sox playoff game)
Cardinals at Redskins 1996 (Esiason 500 yards passing in overtime stunner)
Andre Reed was my favorite AFC receiver and Jerry Rice was my favorite NFC receiver. Present day definitely imitated past day.
Incredible seeing the old school graphics opening in such clarity, compared to vhs of varying generation loss.
This is as good as the Buffalo/Houston Comeback game three years later!
This was a fun one that definitely brought a smile to my face. Thanks for sharing. The Bills and Oilers hooked up again on MNF the following season in a back and forth thriller that also came down to the wire in Houston. If the Titans and Bills play again soon perhaps you can spotlight that one. BTW, the game that just happened hours ago was also another classic between the two franchises that reminded me of the late 80's/early 90's showdowns.
I was at that game.
I remember watching this game in 7th grade. It was crazy........
That Shane Conlan injury at 0:53 is a tough watch. Ouch!
A memorable game. Big plays are made on offense, defense, and special teams. 47-41 Bills!!!
The game that totally sold me on the Bills doing great things in particularly Jim Kelly and Andre Reed. I knew then that those two were going to be great-Go Bills!!!!!!
Fans would lose there minds nowadays watching a game without the score graphic
NBC was the last network to holdout on having a constant scorebox. FOX always had when their NFL coverage started in 1994. CBS added one when they acquired the AFC games in 1998.
I think NBC first used a constant score graphic in 2004 (for Notre Dame football).
@@Knightmessenger I think NBC first introduced theirs in 1999 when they were covering the MLB.
Thurman Thomas the best running back in the league that year. And the next 3 years.
What a game this was. One of the all time greats.
The fans got their moneys worth on this, I just remember seeing the OT on NBC all those years ago.
Half the hits here would be flags today tbh.
This game was crazy. What was that call on the catch and fumble for a TD???
Watched this game at my friend Matt's house. Was so excited when Reed broke off that game winner.
My two all time favorite QBs thank you for the post.
That was a truly great era, so many legendary names. Best uniforms too, I miss those Bills and Oilers uniforms. The Broncos started the uniform sh*t show when they changed their uniforms in the mid 90s.
Wow this was a hell of a game a lot of big plays and that famous flip into the end zone by Ernest Givings
The Oilers was such a perfect name for Houston and they had an iconic logo/uniforms.. now Houston has the most unoriginal name in the league and a generic bull head logo. They need to bring back the Oilers.
The Titans don't want to give it back them.
@@sweetpeach3649 Actually, the NFL retired the name.
@@tygrkhat4087 The Titans retired it. they rebranded as the "Titans" after the 1998 season. But the still have the rights to the logo.
@@sweetpeach3649 No, the NFL retired the name. The Titans can still use Oilers logos and uniforms; just no future NFL team can call itself "Oilers."
@@tygrkhat4087 Because the Titans own it.
One of the best games ever. 2 awesome teams filled with HOF plays.
Warren Moon threw one of the prettiest spirals I've ever seen.
The Moon 🌝
Man, that Bills team of that era was a lot of fun to watch.
Great intro Marv
I love me some Jerry Glanville
Did he leave tickets for Elvis ? I'm sure you heard those stories ...
@@ericsigersmith2831 I love that story. But it was a game against the Patriots, not the Bills.
Irony alert: At one point during the game the score was Buffalo 41 Houston 38.
The comeback!
It’s so bizarre the team died the day the Face of the Franchise Warren Moon was not resigned. To me, Warren Moon is the King of the Houston Oilers. I wish they were back to this day.
Great game!
No team wasted more talent than The Houston Oilers. None.
2000s Chargers: hold my beer
@@IDL716 Not even close.
Houston Oilers Best Winning Season From 1987 To 1993 ☺🏈
Man give Houston the Oilers brand back
The most acrobatic TD ever 15:50
the broadcasts back then seem so much cheesier than today.
True. It was the 80s, everything was bigger and more bombastic and cheesier. I find it charming.
0:31 refs today: _”Taunting, 75 yard flag, automatic 6 points for the offense.”_
Automatic superbowl
Four game suspension and your first born child.
gold@!!
Can’t wait For the two helmet rule so the titans can wear those uniforms again
I forgot how great this game was, and a foreshadow of their epic playoff game a few years later.
Was this Derrick Burroughs last game as a Bill?? He was a really talented DB
Weird hearing Marv Albert call football games back in the day
Before the NBA on NBC, Marv was the #2 person at NBC Sports behind Bob Costas and handled numerous duties like NFL and MLB pregame coverage.
Marv was the No. 2 announcer on NBC’s NFL coverage. He could call any sport.
2 of the strongest arms the game has seen. These guys just flicked their wrist and the ball went 40+yds...
That announcer was so anti-Bills lol everytime Buf had a big play he was like "OH NO"
Funny seeing the character jerry glannville
Nothing says late 80s than super early CGI
Did marv levy not shake the other coachs hand? It looked like marv was saying lets gtfo here, lets go back to buffalo?
Jerry Granville was not very well liked.
@@cbod14 good to know
Those 1989-1992 Bills were red hot 🔥 it was a disgrace that OC Ted Marchibroda left to be HC of the Colts
"Great" Game" 👍
Idc man Moon moon threw the best ball shit is so clean
Bills: Atletico Madrid!
Oilers/Titans: PSV Eindhoven!
The Patriots are the Lakers and the Bills are the Clippers, in a sense lol
@@1990Thunderbolt I agree haha
@@halamadridpatriotsnationgo1057 I love your comments from you guys
5:03 Wtf? What’s up with them CB?
Tecmo Super Bowl AFCCG in a nutshell.
Smash mouth era
When Kelly was on his game and had all those weapons at his disposal, Buffalo could beat anyone in the NFL.
This game never should have gone to OT. Talley's TD should have won it in regulation but the lying, cheating refs who wanted an OT called it back. Forward progress my ass.
23:25... lookit the babe with that long, Crystal-Gayle-like hair!
Ernest Givens USA 10.0, Germany 10.0, England 10.0, Russia 9.8. 🤬🤬🤬🤬
15:55
Houston always lost those heartbreakers
that stadium looks half empty
Both teams should go back to these uniforms
The Houston Oilers were like the Dallas Cowboys of today. Just chokers
Pretty much with the coach jack pardee
Used to have a Bengals and Bills Jersey now I don't.
Players?
Cool story bro
Thanks 😊👍!
I miss the Oilers! Was hoping they'd come back when Houston got a team again, but no....the Texans, yuck.
Warren Moon was tremendous, but he made lots of mistakes as QB.
He had issues with fumbles.
