    We have a 1986 sierra 2.8 v6 xr4x4. On the airbox it's got a little sicker, telling you about valve clearances and the gaps required, and how to adjust the timing, for leaded and unleaded fuel, Not only do handbooks now tell you not to drink screenwash, but owners and mechanics can't even read the bloody dashboard telling them what's wrong with the vehicle. It's incredible how times have changed in 37 years. I dread to think what this world is going to be like in another 50 years

Had not yet found my new best friend Jimmy O'Riley... $2,500 later I had a new DPF and 500 miles later same issue... Well I'll be the dissenter here. On my fifth diesel and the third with a DPF. Never been a problem. This one also takes adblue, which so far has also not been a problem. Might be in the future but we will see. Even if they did the vehicles that suit my needs in petrol I think I would stick to diesel. I like the fuel economy and the torque. As for going back to something older. Nope. Been there, done that. Like my modern comfortable SUV thanks. In fact sold the last one because it was too old fashioned and a pain on long trips.

  • @RichardStefanits
    @RichardStefanits Před 11 měsíci +12

    That could be a problem basically on any adblue systems. Adblue crystalizes and leaves all kind of issues. When you have the chance to fill it up at a fuel station without a jug just from the pump when you refuel, top that up too, and you'll save yourself a lot of time for sure, and as this example tells you even thousands of euros or pounds.

    The general rule for adblue is to add 10 litres at a time. Most tanks are around 17 litres but if you just add small mounts the car doesn’t recognise the level.
    I have run cars with adblue for 9 years and only had a problem once when, the dealer failed to top up the adblue at annual service but listed it as done. This caused the terminal countdown to start but the nice RAC man sorted it out for me in minutes.

    This must be a Jaguar Land Rover thing. I fill my Adblue when the low warning displays or if I am going on a long trip where I will be towing. I find the Adblue consumption higher under those conditions. As for containers, I fill from a pump at the service station. There are two near me that have Adblue. Much, much cheaper than buying by the container.

    It may not be so much the level but the quality or effectiveness of the adblue. If adblue is exposed to temperatures above 25 degrees C or below 5 degrees C it deteriorates quickly. Furthermore don’t be tempted to use adblue which has been sitting in a can for over 6 months. The NOx faults might well be a side effects of poor conversion of NOx emissions based on poor quality adblue. Your advice to top up every 2-4 weeks with fresh fluid is the best preventative measure. Also note the ammonia suspended in the adblue is very corrosion so make sure to clean off any drips with water after when refilling.

    From your experience, does it matter if you put non oem branded def/adblue into the tank as long as it meet specs? Or have you seen faults simply because it meets specs on the bottle but its non-oem?

    The very best thing you can do with a modern diesel is do an EGR and AdBlue delete.

    Hi! I waited too long, until the adblue warning system said 350 km (which is not much). I added about 10l of certified (ISO standard '...') Adblue to the tank. It's been 3-4 days and the system hasn't recognized the new Adblue and its counting down, now on 140 km, and so on. So should i just add more? Or try filling to the top from a rank station? Have i understood uour video correctly? I reckon my tank has room for 17l.
    Happy for all the help I can get.

      I could add that it's been a few days of below 0 degrees C heee in Sweden, but it hasn't been down to -11 that is said to be the freezing point of Adblue.
