@@IWantThatKey of course. But a somewhat serious answer is that stuff you could buy in the store to put in your apartment wasn't varied at all, so people were buying more or less the same things, they merely had any choice. Not enough survival mechanics and random unavoidable death. I'd say Rogue is more like that.

*also Pocketcat is a sentient demonic fursuit so i mean*
There is literally a sergal in termina, this isnt an antropomorphic animal that existed in real life, this is an entire race created by furry comunity, so yeah, furries are actually Canon and no one will convince me otherwise
The sergal spear in funger and the sergal you fight in termina are in reference to neco the sergal, a furry let's player who covered early demos of fear and hunger 1 when that was in development. Neco helped fear and hunger spread early on, so he ended up getting referenced in later updates. That's how I first found the games, well before their current rise in popularity lol

Tbh I'm actually impressed that someone made a game inspiring on "fear and hunger". There are some problems of course, but i think they did a decent job at making this game. Maybe they will remake the game by fixing the story, creating better character development.

17:30 sounds like a trade: you step on an anomaly and have to cure the status effect, but in return you get whatever lies behind it. I haven't played the game, maybe there's can't be anything valuable enough
It doesn't matter what awaits you behind that place, it's still horrible
@@frapollo94 can't agree, it's management: you choose to lose something to get something other. Like spike room in Isaac, or another spike room in Isaac, or locked chests... And now it sounds more like gamble then managment... Anyway it's option if you have some resourse that you want risk not having later
@@frapollo94but Frapollo, you see, sometimes you must suffer in order to make _progress_
THIS GAME HAS THEMES
@@selya_UwU I'd say it's also like those rooms in Lisa where you have to take a long fall to get there
@@selya_UwUI don’t know shit about the furry game but in Isaac its usually pretty clear (relatively speaking) that there will be a random reward for sacrifice. Sacrifice rooms and devil deals being the most obvious examples: you sacrifice health for items.
But the furry game here has no guarantee for a reward. There’s not even a guarantee that you get to roll a dice for a reward.
You take a gamble that its intentional game design rather than lacking polish, and then you take a gamble that the developer wanted to reward the sacrifice you made, and then you take a gamble that whatever your potential reward is was actually better than what you sacrifice.
Its poorly communicated to the player, and takes one out of the experience.
I feel like the artwork holds this game back. I was never quite scared in fear and hunger. But there was anxiety and the panic of seeing an enemy that just LOOKS scary, fear and hunger has a huge issue of losing all of the fear part once you learned the game. At first I thought maybe it wasn't meant to be a horror game (the one in the video not funger), but the tags clearly state it's meant to be horror.
Even if the artstyle was better the monster designs are so bleh. I feel like a furry horror game could work. Hell there are plenty of inspirations you could take from real like sharks to create some good designs. The mouth of a goblin shark, maybe an enemy that has cookie cutter sharks on it like parasites that leap out at you if you don't kill them fast enough like the poison headcrab zombie in half-life. I could go on with the ideas that JUST sharks alone could give to the horror experience. Hell make an enemy with so much teeth it's spilling out of their mouth and basically infested them since sharks have that whole rows of teeth thing.
I think one of the BIGGEST issues of furry media is whenever you can just replace it with humans and literally nothing changes(except for species). There isn't anything inherently wrong with it, I just have a massive pet peeve when anthros are interchangeable from humans. I do understand some people struggle a lot drawing humans and it's easier to draw a furry, but. Yeah. So much could've been done with sharks becoming mutated monsters.
Absolutely agreed! Personally not a furry but think this game really coulda done more by taking the concept and asking 'okay, if I'm going this route, how can I integrate it through and through with the body horror inherent to Funger?' And all the other aspects. The MS-Paint esque icons and simple 'these people are evil because they have EVIL RED EYES' could have been instead an infestation of living flesh growing from the inside taking them over and pumping stress hormones and endorphins in to truly mangle their desires and hates into their worst self. Who knows!
@@Ava-uq5dh EDIT: for some reason I thought you were talking about the parasites when you mentioned infestation. But either way that is still a neat concept. Having unstable 'friendly' npcs that are also infected like others would be a lot better than "GLOWY EYES MEAN THEY CAN BE SANE", like if they looked like an abominable marriage but still retained their mind then that'd really make you feel uneasy even if they are being nice to you.
Also the 'parasites' like... they just seem to be fat worms and not doing much parasite stuff. Some of the enemy designs is more goofy than anything. CRTV heads, hand head, weird crawling gimp sharks. Fear and hunger has had some goofy enemies here and there but not as a main enemy. I've not played stalker, but doing a quick google, even stalker had some very body horror styled enemies, and that was also an inspiration for this game.
Something really confusing me is are they actually dragons since one was refereed to as a dragon lady but was... like, the same? Which makes me wonder if they are all dragons or there are some sharks that are called dragons or... something?
Yeah, i agree, I think funger only works when you feel DESPAIR or helplessness at the horrid thing in front of you. The Ms-paint artstyle feels a bit light instead of opressive, and I don't necessarily think the furry characters make the unscary, since Neco the Sergal in termina was terrifying.
@@nandanthony Oh I don't mean that furries in things cant be scary. It's just, in my opinion, harder to pull off. If neco was just a regular sergal bog standard no differences then he'd not at all be even intimidating.
Though i feel like Rancid the sergal was a little, edgy. Still neat character neat fight.

The idea of a Funger based on a "nuclear" setting is good, the character being furries does not make the the game neither better or worse by itself, but the art seems like an issue that would worsen the experience significantly, i hope the developer takes the feedback well and become able to improve so that their future games are better

The fact that you're forced to play as a furry is scarier than the entire fear and hunger franchise.
Devs must have seen the NSFW content in Funger and thought it was a porn game instead of a horror game.
The bestiary thing could be added into Termina in a similar way. Daan has diagnosis and it only tells you the weaknesses of the enemies to different damage types, but they could make it like some sort of journal, that way you dont need the wiki to know that an enemy is weak to fire or other types. It could also ad a bit of lore like explain how does one become an inquisitor or what are the gull brothers and so forth
Congrats on 100k, can't wait to congratulate you on 200k one day.
Also I think this game does have a bit of charm. The music is actually pretty good at setting the mood, and a few of the enemies are actually pretty scary or interesting. The skills and personalities of the characters being so different is nice, and I don't mind that this game focuses more on weakening or ending unavoidable battles with firing at them first. This game has some high highs and low lows, and I feel like the developer could make something really enjoyable if they maybe had someone, perhaps more of a "normie" friend, to help them straighten some things out, and maybe helped them designing some uniqueness to the buildings.
I've certainly seen worse indie games, and there is some heart to the game, but some creators are so out there and all over the place with their ideas that they miss out on the basics of what makes a game enjoyable. For instance from watching a playthrough yesterday, I think there are only like 5 proper boss battles, but there are at least 50,000 random traps. The traps are a good idea, but it would be nice if they were more strategically placed to make certain areas difficult, and some easier. Even Fear and Hunger as hard as it is doesn't just have bear traps loaded on every map. Sometimes less is more. In the case of boss battles, more would've been nice.
Also the lewd pics scattered around of Marna should just be scrapped no debate. That detail alone will almost certainly put off any non-furry aka 99% of the population. Most normal people don't mind things like Looney Tunes or Sonic the Hedgehog when those things aren't being sexualized.

I love this, Its like the beginning of a new era
If they wanna add anomaly tiles on the floor durring exploration they better add in some item that let's you detect them so there's not as much bullshit.
Yeah- in F&H there are the traps and broken floor, but you at least had the coinflip to maybe save you- so it wasn't as bullshit.
Like- the item I was talking about could be the "quest item" to get before you can go out to explore etc
Edit: yeah, I got to the point where you got one, but I do agree this sht should have been done better.
Not noise but something like a colour.
As avid stalker player- the devs should replay one or two of these games to iron out how anomalous zones work. THey ain't that prelevant and you mostly contend with enemies and radiation, and if you are going to have a bunch of anomalies they are in rather distinguishable clusters.
And the dopplegangers are a bit... bland in my opinion.
Don't get me wrong- awesome the game was made, but defo they could have went harder with designs for the boss creatures. Stuff like incorporating their previous ocupation into some sort of mutation etc (yeah, lookin at Scorched and Silent Hill. But hey coul always go with Annihilation approach where people just merge into one being sharing characteristics of both. PSA: READ SOUTHERN REACH TRILOGY!)
That point about the bland enemies is probably why people can't take this game as seriously as F&H. None of these enemies are really scary. They're just normal fucking people. Where's the brains exploding out of heads like Mastermind? Horrific amalgamations like Platoon, the Lizardmage or Human Hydra? Monsters of incredible aggression and strength like Chaugnar or Greater Blight? The threat of something looming over you at all times, the threat that you could become like these people, like seeing other Moonscorched, or watching what happens during Ascension?
People take F&H seriously because it's dark. Because you can lose yourself to the horrors of the dungeon/Prehevil, and become just as bad as others, through means both natural and supernatural. Here, it's implied that that can't happen. YOU, your consciousness, can't become an entity, at least, if I am interpreting the final boss correctly. You can't fall so far into your thoughts that put progress above all else that you become an embodiment of it, one who only seeks to further progress at any and all costs. You can't become what you fear, or think, or believe, only a manifestation of those thoughts can come to life, and while that is pretty terrifying, it's nowhere near the same.
@@UltimaDoombotMK1 I mean you can make it serious.
I guess it's also because of the quite bright artstyle- but I don't have that much against this and the lad behind it. The lads behind the game definetly can do more- stuff like secondary encounters with doppleganger enemies being with them mutating into their aspect etc.
What they need to do is put the damn games down and read a few books, that's why nobody can write for shit anymore.
@@bensmith8682 Honestly I thought the story was pretty alright.
A world more scientifically advanced than ours, plagued by outbreaks of the "materialisation phenomenon", a supernatural event that causes corrupt versions of ourselves and twisted manifestations of our thoughts to invade our world and influence events. Causing severe damage to whole cities, forcing world militaries to be on high alert at all times to block off areas contaminated by the inception of such events. Meanwhile, within, the survivors must desperately scramble to find supplies and avoid getting caught by the abominations spawned by the phenomenon, as they can range from incredibly violent monsters that only want to kill them, to organised groups of intelligent entities, all working towards a terrible goal, to full blown copies of them, dark mirror images that portray what they could have turned into, had they thought differently or more strongly about an issue.
A scientist dedicated to his job to bring progress and prosperity to the people, seeing himself become a monster who would destroy anything and pay any cost if it meant progress overall, no matter the number of casualties and failures left in his wake.
I would have written more about the other two but I didn't pay that much attention to the ending dialogue, but you get the gist.
All in all, it sounds like a good idea on paper. The art style being too bright and not gritty enough is probably what throws things off for some people.
@@UltimaDoombotMK1 What throws me off is it's an obvious duplication of stories heard before, and the whole 'progress v. human life' shtick is at its most basic possible arguments.
There's no evolution or development here, a hallmark of an underread individual raised on reductionary film and games.
As far as 'not writing that much on the others', that's because there's nothing -to- write. Alexis or whatever his name is is just a stand in for Marco's F&H 2 abilities(With no character attached), and Marna is just a generic whiney healer type with a 'dark backstory' to justify the prattling of the nurse, an obvious buzzo knockoff.
If this is considered a quality story to you, I feel very sorry.

Gee, thanks for that tinnitus-triggering guitar riff intro. I totally wanted to pause the video and wait until the deafening screech ended.
Was it that loud? No one else said anything up to now
Nothing wrong with being inspired by something, entire genres start from something. FPS was born from Doom, Metroid and Castlevania have inspired countless, plenty of indie titles have built off Sonic's speed. The list goes on and on. Given how Fear & Hunger is in its limelight as of late, in no small part thanks to content creators like you, I'm not surprised to see a Fungerlike. It's certainly got some issues, but I respect the developer's work all the same.
Looks like there will be other fungerlike games soon. For example, Solve Et Coagula game was announced, which is clearly inspired by fear and hunger even more than mine. I wonder what will come of it.
