    FSI Intake Removal DIY: • VW MK5 GTI FSI Intake ...
    In this video, we show how to replace a cam follower on a transverse 2.0T FSI engine. This engine is found in many Volkswagen and Audi vehicles including most MK5 GTI's. If the cam follower is not replaced, it can cause serious damage to the camshaft and high-pressure fuel pump.
    The job requires only a few minutes of your time and minimal tools. We show how to remove the banjo bolt, which most people find to be the hardest part of the job. Some vehicles have a banjo bolt, while others use a hose clamp fitting. For vehicles with the banjo bolt, we recommend using our Schwaben Stubby Driver Set to help easily reach the bolt.
    Side note: Many customers with tuned FSI engines choose to upgrade their high-pressure fuel pumps. This is required for Stage 2+ and K04 power levels. The fuel pump removal and installation shown in this video and can be used for reference.

    Man thanks a lot for doing the benjo bolt variant. I followed your instructions and had no issues with the repair. When I was putting everything back together, however, a hose connector nipple broke off from the coolant flange right next to the hpp because apparently it as heavily corroded. I had to do an emergency repair in that I drilled an 8mm hole where the said nipple used to sit and replaced it with a brass tube that I squeezed into a thick silicone hose and sealed the shit off, hopefully for good, with some vinyl tape. That way a quick repair turned into a few hours of tinkering... phew

I broke the brittle plastic lower PCv hose trying to get to that and lost my m8 bit on because it didn't have that fancy retainer thing as this one does spent an hour fishing that out but can complain about the hose I replaced it with a real rubber hose. Gave up on the follower that day but I'm going to try again with a better approach thanks for the video

    I have a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0T fsi turbo. It wouldn’t start so I replaced the high pressure fuel pump and the in tank fuel pump. I eventually got it to start. It starts right up and idles fine, but when you give it gas it’s all choppy and not the correct rpm it should be at. I have a engine code, it’s P2294, so that means that there’s a problem with my fuel pressure regulator attached to my high pressure fuel pump, but the regulator is brand new so I don’t know what to do

  • @jimtonkin713
    @jimtonkin713 Před 4 lety +2

    This video does help and could help you fix your FSI engine. The problem is if the end of your intake camshaft is already worn down then replacing the follower will only prevent the fuel pump from getting damaged even more. I’ll try and sum this up the best way I can explain as I own a VW Passat with the same engine. The problem is the end of the intake cam which runs the fuel pump wears out and doesn’t deliver the adequate amount of fuel for the car. Yeah replacing the follower helps, but if the end of the cam is messed then the car won’t be injecting fuel properly and will put the car into a sort of limp mode because the ECU recognizes the car isn’t getting fuelled properly. 91 octane (which this engine must run) acts as a sort of cooling agent so if the car can’t be cooled properly then it’ll just destroy itself. The end of my cam is messed up as the previous owner of my car never had the cam itself fixed and only had the fuel pump and follower fixed. I’m not really an expert on Euro cars but I know a mechanic who previously worked at a VW dealership who dealt with these FSI engines all the time when they first started to have this problem.

      Late to the party but I had my hfpf and camshaft replaced for this exact reason at about 130k miles lol, about to replace the cam follower 30k miles later, i know, i'm late. I wish I had known about the ECS conversion kit that eliminates the problem entirely, although it's $650. I just passed 160k miles on my 2008 B6 tfsi

    • @jimtonkin713
      @jimtonkin713 Před rokem

      @@JohnSmith-hv3mj I know the kit your talking about. In Canada that kit cost well more than what my car was worth and cause I was 17 and didn’t know any better I bought everything separately on two websites. One site was Canadian and I only bought a gasket and the special socket for the one weird cam bolt. The other one I bought the cam follower and whole camshaft assembly off of and at the time I didn’t realize the site was American and just those two parts alone exceeded the value of my car without me realizing so it was a rude awakening when I checked my bank account later. I did end up replacing everything and about 3 months later the car started burning more oil than it did gas and the electronic parking brake would turn on for no reason so it was new car time after that. Ended up with a brand new Corolla hatchback that uses the same direct injection system lol.

I drive down the road in my car and he cuts off the gas. the gas needle surges and the engine stops. the computer shows error code p2293. I care about your ideas, and I await your answer.

Would anyone know by having a crack on the top switch im going to have issues. After installation i turned the motor on and left it for 5min, No engine light.

      A basic off the shelf stage 1 tune is considered pretty safe, although any tune putting out more power increases the stress on an engine. With the Gen 1 TSI, you don't have to worry about upgraded internals until you get into bigger turbos (beyond a K04.) Congrats on the Scirroco, wish we had those in the US!

    I just completed this job on my 08 A3. The follower was extremely worn and the cam lobe has a good deal of wear. What should I do about the lobe if anything? Since it's worn and uneven I imagine I'll have to change the follower more often. Everything else is working.

    • @ecstuning
      @ecstuning  Před 6 lety

      Welp, unfortunately, the original camshafts were way too soft. If your lobe shows signs of wear, you'll eat cam followers left and right. There is a revised camshaft that is properly hardened and will solve your issues. Replace the camshaft, re-replace the follower, and do an oil change to get any metal debris outta there, and you'll be set. Here's the cam: goo.gl/A66WzT

      If you can stretch the budget slightly, a used B8 S4 is one of the best "bang for the buck" Audi's there is. The supercharged V6 sounds amazing and puts down some great power with a simple tune, intake, exhaust, and pulley.
      Otherwise, maybe look at a used 8V A3 2.0T or a B8.5 A4 (make sure the A4 has the updated timing chain tensioner.) They can both be pretty quick with the right modifications (intake, downpipe, tune, turbo upgrade.)
