ThinLinc Tutorial czcams.com/video/9prhMCiURyg/video.html
Thanks so much for this video. This is the best Arch installation guide I've seen -- written or in video form. I appreciate that you provide explanations for what things do (like quickly mentioning that mkdir is how to create a directory). When I tried following the Arch Installation guide, I found myself following a daisy chain of Wiki articles to understand this concept or that concept, and I would be 7 pages deep into that before resuming the install. That was very tedious. This is much easier and I still feel like I understand what I'm installing on my system.
Pretty good "newer" guide. A couple of things to note: (1) For users out there NOT using a standard US-style keyboard, the first thing you will want to do is run the "loadkeys" command to specify your keyboard layout. Example, I run "loadkeys es" to load my Spanish keyboard layout. You can find a listing of available keymaps by running the "localectl list-keymaps" command. (2) After setting keymap, you really should sync the Arch mirrors with the "pacman -Syy" command. HTH.
Good point.
My install was already done but i still waited for the ad too finish ❤
this is the best Arch Linux installation video i saw
you've made it sept by step
and explained every step
it was easy to follow and understand
and xfce is indeed the best for beginners i started with it when i switched to Linux in 2020
on MX Linux
i felt comfortable with it
and didn't know it's name until
days after
it's fast and easy to use desktop environment and stable and cool looking and easy to change it's look and feel
xfce is a good start and introduction
for beginners to Linux is a good support to them on Arch Linux
This is the best one yet. Thank you!!!!
Thank you thank you thank you! This was so helpful in getting me started. Everything was so easy to follow, and I was always clear on what I needed to do. I would highly recommend this to anyone installing Arch for the first time.
how do you find arch compared to other OSs? im debating switching my desktop to either PopOS or maybe take the plunge to arch, from kde neon, and wondering how youre finding it
@@chickenbobbobba not the person you replied to, but
Arch is more lightweight than many other linux distros
You get cool things like the AUR
However it is rolling release meaning more updates are likely to break things and PopOS would likely have better game support at least out of the box if that matters to you
Arch is harder to set up(which is why I'm here again) but ease of use is about the same
But honestly I would only switch if what you are currently using doesn't do everything you want it to right now and/or you are interested in arch.
If you are interested in maximum compatibility with minimum tinkering for gaming I would do PopOS.
TL:DR Arch if you are interested, PopOS for max gaming compatibility(if it matters), or stay on what you are using unless you want something else more
@@__ab- thanks very much that answers what i wanted perfectly
Thank you so Much, I will try to install it, i have failed so many times. I can read and watch it again and again.
Great work :)
Thanks
Very good tutorial! After reboot I had to type: nmtui in the terminal to open the network connection wizzard for WIFI. after that everything works perfect.
Exacty! But why is that?
You're back! 🙂
Ich bedanke mich für dies Tutorial, Das war sehr hilfreich.
Thank you for your video
Thank you for the great video.
Btw, there is a typo for /etc/hosts, at 14:09
Thank You, Sir, very clear
Very cool
Thanks for the guide. Tell me please do I need to disable secure boot for successful installation?
The guide is great, thanks to it my pc runs Arch no, thank you very much
Thanks ❣❣❣
Thankyou!! Amazing instructions and first one to help me install Arch Linux! For beginners don't forget to connect to WIFI again when installing audio and GUI files!!!
How does one do that? I cannot figure out how to reconnect to the wifi at all
Dag!! I thought it was on already. 🥴 Thank you so much, no wonder an error came up!
can we add panac in pacstrap, fish shell in chroot ?
Can someone help me? I did minimal install and almost all commands dont work and my wired networks also dont connect i dont have acces to iwctl
18:54 on the reboot, I do not see what you see. Any advice!
this is great, i almost have the confidence to do this. (except i'll need to install on a bios system so i'll need to check other tutorials for that part.)
some points aren't clear to me. the partitioning in a legacy bios machine in particular. tried twice, using the supplied legacy bios suggestions at the web page, but getting grub errors on the first reboot. going to try it for a third time in a row now. on your website, you say "Legacy mode! If you do the legacy installation, choose the dos partition type and do not create the UEFI partition." but it's not clear to me what needs to have a dos partition type. The root partition or all partitions? Do one or more partitions need to be MBR? cfdisk does not display any option for 'dos' in exact terms. there are now 100 or so options in the 'type' list in cfdisk. GPT isn't mentioned either. or maybe i'm not looking in the right place. after the third or fourth try, still only able to reboot to a GRUB_ with the blinking cursor.
i think the root partition needs some kind of boot flag? i've tried setting the root partition as MBR as well as Bios Boot, and neither seem to be working. I'd really like to be able to modify what's wrong without having to reformat and reinstall over and over. used a live image to look at the partitions and there were no boot flags so i add them, and still boots to GRUB_ ... this tells me that Grub is loading, but not able to turn the engine over. i checked lsblk during the install process and the mount points were /mnt for root and /home for home. also it's not clear if a boot partition is needed or not since i'm not using EFI. there's a high degree of ambiguousness with installing on a legacy bios system.
I can get most things I want to work under Arch, but some appimage apps spits out a lot of errors I dont know how to fix, if possible from my side at all
So on virtual machine everything worked but on my laptop (y510p) nothing showed up after grub-intall in efibootmgr. Had to manually add it but after I get grub started I can't boot Arch and I'm stuck on some microcode errors.
Hey, what music is in the background?
great job but better to enlarge the fonts
Great videos thx!! But, How to install ArchLinux with secure boot enable ?? Please!
I just learned that if you are trying this, and you keep getting stuck at the pastrap command, try updating your keyring.
This is the second time I do this and my network wlan0 disappears after I change host name and etc/hosts. Can you help me please?
nothing shows under my devices. i am using an older laptop tho
Hi I followed the tutorial and can't boot my WIndows, how do I do x) ?
I have a problem - after booting from the installed system I can't connect to the internet (I only have WiFi), when I type command "iwctl" it says:
"-bash: iwctl: command not found" how do I fix this?
try "sudo nmtui" that worked for me
I solved the problem by isntalling IWD to the system since I don't have wired internet
i look the installation guide from wiki, there is step mirrorlist. what you dont explain that?
I once installed Linux Arch on Virtual-Box, unfortunately I could not install Linux Arch on the PC because a warning [rootfs ~] was first displayed. Can you tell me why I have not installed on the PC?
Manual solution is good for understanding the processes, but using archinstall script, via this automatic method, arch works better, because you need to write a bit more configurations, which allows you to do an automatic method. Before, I just had no idea. Need more detailed guide.
I get call to reboot failed: Access denied.... whenever i try to shutdown without sudo pls help.
Epic
AT LAST. Still can't believe it: a true, honest, useful, clean, no bells-and-whistles, learnable HowTo in 2023. KUDOS KUDOS KUDOS!👏
(and even a textual version... this guy must be sick - a true weirdo :D )
Someone could help me please?
I have followed the instructions as shown , and did have problems in the meantime but i have overcame them all successfully , tho i noticed that my table was set to type dos , and for him it was in gpt , i have read that gpt is the prioritized. but anyway , i read that i can transform it later , so it should not be any problem , and was said i can continue the installation because it doesnt mean anything at this moment. so i continued, i have done the partitioning as shown as well , and everything was ok. now when i arrived to reboot , after seven hours of struggling , i get a grub rescue prompt!!!!! could anyone help me out with this one? how do i get back to the terminal of arch? how can i skip this screen at all? i feel like i have fucked it up big time , and there is no command the prompt would accept.
thank you in advance!
I don't know if anyone ever helped you on this but you can try to boot up in another Linux distro and use gparted to set the hard disk to GPT that way when you start your arch install again it's already in gpt
The guide is good, but I want to add for those who use WiFi like me - you should also install IWD package in advance to connect to the WiFi after booting
Idk what im doing but im gonna try my best to understand this OS
damn! i wished i have that fast Internet access!
where can i get Archlinux 2023, need the upgrade fast.
At least someone who knows his stuff, and propose an install in baremetal
Im not even getting to that point overall. Im just getting in rootfs because he can not mount an partition or something like that
Duh, Arch suxx!
Impossible to load missing firmware during installation process
Build my New PC and im again here xd
I mean if you are trying to "learn" do it this way. If you just wanna use arch use a script and be done in 10 mins. I've stumbled my way though it a couple times but there really isn't a reason to.
If you mounted your root partition to /mnt, then you should've mounted the boot partition to /mnt/boot, not /boot. What you should do is boot the live USB, mount your root partition to /mnt and your boot partition to /mnt/boot, chroot in and then:
pacman -S linux
And then make sure that vmlinuz-linux is present.
When he mounted boot partition he was already chroot in /mnt so ultimately it was a /mnt/boot
Remember guys, this is for systems with UEFI
Is basically my same installation, however, sometimes, I would like to use archinstall (just to be faster), but for me, on 10 times I tried it, it worked once!. The only time it auto broke because partition that he created was too small (I wasn't able to install games from steam with a 1TB disk). The others time some random errors, or the fact that I didn't insert a password for disk encryption (that I never wanted to apply). Archlinux is great, but archinstall has to be fixed...
Man I love the content you make but sometimes your accent is hard to know exactly what your saying and the CC is even more off on guessing than I am.
I don't get why won't you just let Etcher do all the work?
Download ISO or USB setup, where is it? Pretty incomplete for 2023
Hi My name is Gates. We have shared a few emails in the past. I am a 40 old computer professional. Just wanted to let you know There is a GUI installer in arch, and it works perfectly well. I really like your videos. I view the all as they come in my email box.

I think you released this 3 week's too early the title and date won't match and people won't take you seriously trying to bait this early ;)
People creating their own distros 🦍🦍🦍
Очень плохо, всё в мыле.. Неужели было сложно в виртуальной машине это снять?
Need to add on here that you will have zero applications including a terminal and browser. That would have been nice to know. A fun project just turned into a massive annoyance.
Too bad, I can't follow this guide. I'm still in 2022.
Same 😢, how enter to 2023?
The problem people have with ARCH Linux install is THE MANUAL. It sucks ass and is not sufficient , even for more experienced Linux users. That's why so many people give up on it.
tf do you mean the arch wiki explain everything you need to do, you know you actually need to click on the blue words you don't understand right ?
Сейчас 2022! Написал бы сразу- 2033, чего мелочиться.
No, just no! I like your videos dude. But this is painful. This a sign of your stuck mind in the past. 🙄 Use that archinstall command you won't dye.
😉💯
After boot no grub show 🥹 I followed all the steps and no error encountered
