- After the massive advertising push and discounts on the PlayStation VR (PSVR) over the holidays, Chris felt it was the right time to bring attention to an aspect that the peripheral takes advantage of that no one seems to talk about... you can watch 3D BluRays on it. Yes, If you pop a 3D BluRay into your PS4 while the PSVR is connected you can have a theatrical 3D film experience without the need of a compatible television. So Chris shares his top ten 3D BluRays that show off how awesome the PSVR 3D capabilities really are.

I just discovered this gem a few nights ago when I popped in Resident Evil: Retribution. The screen said I could watch it with my VR I got excited because I have a collection of 3D movies myself

A lot of people don't realize you can play 3D BluRays on the PSVR. Sony doesn't really advertise it.

Underrated and underappreciated in the 3D game.
hmm im curious to see how the virtual cinema setup and fidelity is for psvr - I've been playing around with 3d movie setups in my oculus for years now and the absolute best bar-setting experience I've had is ripping my movies to 4k sbs (god i wish i could just pop the disc in and play it like on the playstation) and playing it in whirligig with a ~200 degree curved/spherical projection. It feels quite literally like you're in the movie.

it would be nice If they would put 3D movies in 4k ATMOS and lighten it knowing that the 3D glasses will darken the movie.
I just got the Hobbit Trilogy and SW Solo in 3D for Xmas, love watching these on the PSVR. I highly recommend Tron Legacy 3D, it’s pretty great!

I purchased PSVR yesterday and i want to watch all my Blu-ray 3D-Movies! I have a couple of them i purchased in the last years and i was never able to watch them before, there are sadly no more 3D-TVs in germany. I can't wait to watch Jurassic Park 3D from 1993 tomorrow in 3D at home.

Yup. I'm loving the fact that I can get an extra use out of my PSVR. I've never watched a 3D movie on a 3D TV so I can't compare.

I just bought a oculus quest 2, so I'm on the hunt to see what 3d movies would be worth watching in this headset. You've given me some good choices. Yeah, Clash of the titans was bad, saw it in the theater..yet to go back to watch it again. Walked out of the movie at the end, wondering why I didn't like it. My brain was processing the storyline, but the visuals were all jacked up. That makes more sense to me now.
Yeah, the 3D in Clash of the Titans is incredibad. It's kind of mindboggling.

Hey, Chris. Great video and I've been trying to find a headset to watch 3D movies. REALLY interested in PS4 for that reason. Using an HDMI splitter, can one attach 2 headsets to watch 3D movies with a friend?
Not that I'm aware of. But there is a certain kind of plug on the unit that I don't think is common so I'd have to say no, you wouldn't be able to link two to the PS4.
@@MidlifeCrisisMedia I thought of that too and yes, there is a standard HDMI port and one proprietary but it makes sense the proprietary port sends sensor data back to the ps4 which wouldn't be needed for 3d movies (vr videos, yes, not 3d). Just wish I knew someone with ps4 so i can try it. I'll post when I know more.

Haven't had the opportunity to Use a PSVR, Thats really neat that it works for movies, its only a shame you need a headset for every person to watch.
Yeah. It kind of does stink that you need multiple headsets to watch a movie. The upside is that it works fantastically!

That Avengers infinity war 3d movie wasn't released in the United States. Where did you get it from and does it play on the ps4 US good, since some out of the country ones don't work on the ps4
Most of the recent movies that I own in 3D are region free versions I got off ebay. The newest ones I've acquired are Solo, Ant-Man & The Wasp, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Justice League, Aquaman, Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse and Kong: Skull Island.
"Discounted..." Sure, SURE--rub it in! lol But for real--so thankful for this list. Lady Laci is a major movie buff and I don't think she's taken advantage of this feature yet.

The 3D in the PSVR works to varying degrees depending on the movie.
Please help i can't do this 3d it show me to screen of the movie and if i turn vr mode it just missed up

One of my buds who worked in VR for decades suggested Avatar 3D, and myself, I went with RP1. But don't buy these with retail sites, you will hate yourself for it, if I did it would have been $60 or more, I scored them off of eBay.
Hey man I'm new to your channel Just had a question It's a little bit off the subject of your video but I saw 3D that you were talking about 3D so I just wanted to chime in and ask you a question because I just recently picked up 3D TV at a garage sale and I was just curious Does the PS4 play 3D movies like will it work I know it used to work but I'm wondering if it's still works because I know the PS5 doesn't allow you to play 3D movies for some reason? So I'm just curious because I don't have a three player and if it does work then I'm going to go out and buy a PS4 just so I can watch the 3D movie on the 3D TV It's an LG 3D TV by the way It's a couple of years old if I had a guess maybe 8 years old but it's in still great condition It's very thin surprisingly I mean it looks like a new TV like from 2020 but the technology from like 8 to 10 years ago anyways any feedback would be great appreciate it Thank you
The PS4 plays 3D BluRays. You either need a 3D TV or a PSVR to watch them.

Not sure which version of the PS4 works best since I've only used the PS4 Pro with my PSVR, but I know both versions will play 3D BluRays.

What about James Cameron's Avatar (the one the restarted the 3D craze), does it hold up when played on PSVR, i just got my PSVR and only now learned that it can play 3D movies and i haven't bought the Avatar blu-ray yet, should i get the 3D version or is it not worth it!?
At the time I made this video I didn't own the 3D version of Avatar. I do now and might talk about it in a future video.

Megamind I just tested the VR on it. I have a 3D projector but the glasses were somehow moved into the storage barn outside so it’s worn.
I forgot how great that movie is. I can plug any headphone in so no need to buy a specific one and no need to compromise on sound when family is sleeping.
Tron Legacy, Rogue One and many others are just great 3D experiences that I’m happy I can just soak in when I want now. Man I wish the 6 Star Wars films were all realized in 3D.

I did see the OG Jaws in Real 3D last year in the theater, and it was fantastic. I wish we got a physical release of it on BluRay. I'd buy it on day one.

As far as I know it does not even play blu-ray.
Surely hope Sony is going to add that functionality when the psVR2 comes out. Maybe they plan a digital renting solution for psVR 2 with 3d movies ? Why would they not add that functionality to the ps5 ?

There is a cable you can get directly from Sony that allows you to hook your PSVR to the PS5 without issues. I got mine once they announced it and it was 100% free. Check out their website.
My PS5 plays DVDs, BluRays and 4K UHDs without issue. Not sure why yours wouldn't.

I have that VR adapter cable for PS5 and it works. Only watching 3D movies does not. I get a message that the media is not supported. I will also check if there was an update that I missed
System up to date but same issue. Watching a 3d blu-Ray will not work with psVR only.
Is there a work around ?
Are u able to look around u in 360 degrees or does it just seem like items are coming towards u while watching a movie?

Até the Blu-ray 3D movies region free?? Because what I see today is that most 3D movies are made for other regions, outside of the US
The ones I've bought from Korea are region free. I've also found region free 3D Blu Rays from Germany and China. Most sellers on eBay will let you know if the discs are region free or not.
Big Trouble in Little China, The Transformers The Movie. The Last Star Fighter, Vampire Hunter D 1&2, Akira.....this list can go forever.
None of those movies are in 3D tho...
I just found out that 3D blu rays can be viewed on PlayStation Vr. Do I need to hook the PlayStation up to a 3d tv to do this. Or do I just need a PlayStation and VR?

Do ps vr get steam up and how do ps vr compare to 3d projector
I've never used a 3D projector so I can't really compare the two. If it's humid in the room when I'm watching a movie in the headset it can get steamed up, but the headset is adjustable and that helps.

Yes I have. I own the 3D BluRay. It didn't hold up to how amazing it looked in the theater.
Question will I have to have a base ps4 model for this to work or will my ps4 pro be able to do this?
I do believe that you'll need a PS4 Pro to run a PSVR

Is it necessary to set up the camera if you're only going to use the PSVR for watching movies?
I think you do. The camera reads your head movements, so when you're watching a movie it adjusts if you move around or shift.

The hidden side of the psvr why sony didn't push this feature more is beyond me. Would of opened a whole new market to non gamers. Yes it's not perfect but damn close.

I've never seen it, but people tell me the 3D in Jensen Ackle's My Bloody Valentine was a very fun 3D movie. Did you see that one on VR?
I do own that movie in 3D, and I saw it in the theater in 3D as well. The 3D was amazing when I saw it on the big screen, but the 3D BluRay was a little underwhelming.
Hopefully psvr2 gets blu ray 3D support.

I bought my PS4 on Amazon and wound up getting a region 2 version. It plays games just fine, but no DVDs or Blu-rays. It's a shame, I'd love to watch some 3D movies.

I think it's a fun schlockfest, but that's just me. It's all about the 3D though which is why I picked it.
for 3d I strongly recommend a projector. You have a higher chance of getting a 4k 3d projector rather than a 3d TV. Also having a bigger screen makes watching films in 3d more immersive.
But some of us dont have the space to project it on the wall
