What sets him apart from most players is that he was one of the very very few players who could seriously do anything if he had to. Maybe there were better midfielders, but as a coach I d always let someone play who can completly change his playstyle if my tactics dont work.

Up there as one of the best box to box midfielders of all time. The most complete midfielder who could play anywhere in midfield at a high level. The most tactically adept. No flaw in his game apart from maybe pace but he didn’t need it because he was so clever in where to be for tackles and interceptions but he could also glide with the ball when he had to carry the ball and make things happen.
