- Today we start a big MLB The Show 23 Franchise series with the Oakland Athletics. The A's are the toughest team for Franchise mode in MLB The Show this year, with their weak roster, struggling farm system, and the lowest budget in baseball. The rebuild of this team won't be easy. And there aren't many future stars already on the roster. We need to scout, develop, and completely change this team to succeed in the rebuild.

This was the team that seemed to get the most support when I streamed and checked the feedback. I wanted a challenging rebuild, and we certainly have one here. I'm excited to see what the series can become. I've been making changes to my channels this year to focus on fewer series while creating better content that progresses the series faster. MrCane PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don’t just sign the best FA in the off-season. Can you please do a tradition rebuild and develop your young guys and draft picks. These series are so much better when we get to cheer for guys YOU introduced to us rather than forcing a Yankee fan to cheer for current Red Sox players.

Hey Cane, you should try to trade for Nate Pearson of the blue jays, he’s a good young pitcher who has been plagued with injuries, and would be a perfect player to give a chance in a rebuild like this

There’s a roster in the vault called FULL_MINOR V 1.0 which is done by Wiz-_-Enrique which is pretty good for having all the minor leaguers and stuff so you get the real prospects to go with the ones you find and draft in the franchise mode

About Shintaro Fujinami, I was able to get some information about his pitch mix, I got this information off the Japanese language Wikipedia article about him, his pitches average around 154.2km/h (95.8mph) and max at 161km/h (100mph), he throws a 4-seam and 2-seam fastball, a cutter that breaks similarly to a slider, which account for around 90% of the pitches he throws, he also has a split fastball, slider, and curve ball which average around 141km/h (87.6mph).
The article did have some data from 2015 of his velocities and tendencies to use pitches, but it was prior to him adding the cutter to his mix, which seems to replace his slider in terms of usage, the 2015 data was as follows: 4-seam fastball, used 54% of pitches, average velocity 151km/h (93.8mph). slider, used 32% of pitches, 137km/h (85.1mph). split fastball, used 7% of pitches, 140km/h (86.9mph). curve, used 4% of pitches, 123km/h (76.4mph). 2-seam fastball, used 3% of pitches, 145km/h (90.1mph).
He is said to have issues with control and he has had a high walk rate in NPB, both appear to be reflected in the ratings of the version of him you downloaded

Honestly though with how little they spend it's kind of amazing how good they consistently are. Imagine if they paid even half the league average on payroll.

I am very excited although one thing I do want to say is as a viewer, definitely make sure you don't let seasons drag out especially at the beginning when the team is bad. I feel like this took away from the Rockies franchise every once in a while. With how long the season is its tough the series entertaining and shown development so I'd just make that a priority with this series/

Them and the Pirates I both liked. I really wanted the AL this year, and the competition was a big factor. The AL West has a lot of great players I'd like to face.

The AL West has my favorite team in the Astros as the WS champs, a team that was in the playoffs in the last year in the M's, a team with two of the best players in MLB in the A's, and a big spender in the Rangers so your job is arguably much more difficult than the Rockies.
Excited for the series, hopefully we can get through the first season quickly, maybe a month an episode since we should be pretty low in the standings
Just wanted to say I appreciate seeing a player that uses buttons w/hitting, I've never seen a streamer use buttons for the show, and I have always used buttons, for the reasons you mentioned, so I really appreciate you showcasing your way of playing.

Is it weird I caught myself watching opening day A’s versus Angels last night just to be informed on A’s roster and even found myself cheering for the Oakland…
I’m not sure if you’d like audience interaction in this way or not, but I came up with a few players I think could fit the way you’re trying to build this team, I hope at least one of these guys helps out the squad!
OF Victor Robles - WSH, former top prospect who’s fallen out of the nationals graces and may get traded, great defender & super speedy.
LHP Tyler Alexander - DET, Tigers have lots of pitching depth, he could be a great swing man between the rotation or long relief.
RHP Zach Pop - TOR, blue jays have a lot of relievers and pop is young, cheap and has upside.
UTL Nick Gordon - MIN, Twins may be willing to trade him for some relief help during the season as he doesn’t have a set spot. Very versatile
1B/OF Garret Cooper - MIA, a bit older, but great contact & solid defense. Could be a great stopgap veteran for a year or two
1B Bobby Dalbec - BOS, Red Sox sent him to the minors for their top prospect of the same position. He’s got great power upside though he lacks defensively and contact wise, he could be a cheap option to generate some power which is usually are for the A’s to find and keep.
SS Jorge Mateo - BAL, the orioles have a lot of infield prospects, Mateo is possibly the fastest player in the league or certainly Among them. Could be a decent SS if he can learn to hit better.
All these suggestions are based off their real life skill. Idk how the show has them all rated so keep that in mind.

Love to see it!! Definitely the hardest rebuild you could have gone with... some fairly 'decent' prospects seemed to have been missed out though. Darell Hernaiz, Royber Salinas, Luis Medina. Henry Bolte and Clark Elliot were also 2nd round picks in 2022
Love the A's pick and Moneyball 2.0 strategies! If you want to be reallyyyy realistic, Fujinami is slated to pitch only once a week, every Saturday. That'd make it even harder! Looking forward to the new franchise!

Very excited for this rebuild, love the money hall 2.0 approach, when I rebuilt Oakland in the show 22, I always kept the budget under 60 million and I didn’t allow myself to sign players to contracts longer than 5 years and no greater than 10 million a year. Really focused on player development, especially with the prospects already there and the ones in the draft.

Being the A's is so interesting. You have to play the Angels the costy team who sucks, but have the 2 best players in baseball. You have the Astros the dominate defending champions. You have the Uprising Mariners. The Rangers are there too...but none the less

I would like to see this first season go kind of quickly since you have inherited someone else's roster. If you start making moves then highlight those. The meat and potatoes of the series will be what you do at the draft and the first offseason.

It will be nice to see franchise start from the very beginning. I started watching the Rockies series you have been doing recently, but admittingly felt lost some of the time as I am just not familiar at all with modern baseball games. However, seeing this makes me, in some way, want to go out and pick this up for myself. Regardless, take care and best of luck going forward. BTW, the A's is a good choice and felt that them along with the Reds, Pirates, and/or Orioles would have been good choices as well.

Take a look at free agents early in the season, you can usually find some decent young prospects that have A or B potential that could help build the farm, or just maybe add to the team right away because the team is starting so far back 🤝
So you went with the A's. Good choice. Really the stand out option in the AL and I'm exited to see what you can do.
P.S. You probably should reset the franchise and see if anyone posted an Opening Day roster, since everyone is posting their 26-man rosters today, just need to ensure that it includes the players like Fujinami and Tatis. (Since the A's made another boneheaded move and traded Pache today.)
Make sure to look for Plate Discipline and Vision. Those really help the contact you get. Especially help average and OBP

For me a cool thing is that you showed some ideas/house rules for the start of the process of rebuilding a team.
Defense is nice to have but doesn’t play as big of a factor as you would want. Contact and discipline will have a bigger impact than defense. Regardless, Can’t wait to watch this series!

I got drafted as a center fielder in RTTS by Oakland...I am still in double A but after watching this its going to be a long 6 years...
I picked the A’s on MLB 22. Tough team to rebuild. Excited to see what you do with the team.

What roster are you using? I still can’t find the OS rosters on the vault
You can keep the team in its current location and change the stadium. After you start up your franchise, go to stadium management, click on your MLB stadium, and change it from there to whatever stadium you want. Took me a while to figure that one out lol
