- Today we start a big MLB The Show 23 Franchise series with the Oakland Athletics. The A's are the toughest team for Franchise mode in MLB The Show this year, with their weak roster, struggling farm system, and the lowest budget in baseball. The rebuild of this team won't be easy. And there aren't many future stars already on the roster. We need to scout, develop, and completely change this team to succeed in the rebuild.

Cane I think when scouting make sure you’re looking at the top 18 year olds for a chance at generational talents. We all know that’s the only thing that could help the A’s (heck, the generational player could even be the highest rated player on your team as soon as you draft him)
The game has a way of making you priortize 1 thing or the other... its either 18 yr olds who can be generational talents. If they arent they are like 3-5 yrs away.. if you want guys who can help right away, its b rated guys who are like 22 yrs old.. the game makes u pick ur poison.. i like that..
Yes. I think Adolpho Cairo (18 year old CF from Puerto Rico) might be one. He's projected in the 50's (draft range) but generational prospects aren't always projected high.
He needs his own Griffey Jr. Essentially
@@tstumpf75people just need to check the ratings more , guys with really high future ratings have high potential and then their current ratings are all red don’t draft them they’ll take 5 years , generational prospects current ratings are like all 60’s for hitting or pitching then their future is all 80+ lit up green it’s super easy to find them , and the 18 year olds are stacked in middle rounds you can find plenty B potential guys that are like 68+ ready in a few years , just gotta check the current ratings don’t draft guys that don’t have at least some yellow in their ratings .

First, I love your draft strategy in general. The only thing I would tweak is prioritizing 18 year olds for the chance of generational talents. One hit makes up for a lot of misses due to wider ranges in potential.
Second, regarding player management, I feel like flipping your saves leader at the deadline, plus Blackburn and Diaz is the minimum. Anyone with 3+ years of service time is a luxury this team can’t afford.
As the Oaklands A’s GM you gotta try out every reliever as a closer and see if you can boost their value to trade them for prospect. If a veteran is having a career year? Trade them. If someone is due for a pay raise? Trade them
As an A’s fan, I completely agree with your advice. It’s painful…. But it has to be done.

Well the good thing about having almost zero future players is that the young guys u draft should get a nice opportunity to make an impact at some point
He can’t sign a million free agents to block them in this franchise either, unlike the Rockies franchise
Cane, I know others have said this, but Ken Willis looks like he could be a starter. His stamina range is already 75-89 with a potential of 78-92. Also…a rating range of 77-91 already is nuts. He looks like a cant miss starter.
Hey Cane, I've got a small idea I think you might like: whenever you create a custom stadium, you should create a custom pitching camera too. Every team has their own unique pitching camera angle and I think making your own would add an extra bit of flavor to the series.

Imo, Pat McCain should be your top pick. He looks to be closer to MLB ready and has potential superstar ratings in every category. If nothing else he'll be a strong hitter and he can always play 3rd or 2nd if the fielding doesn't pan out

The Coliseum removed its 3rd deck tarps 5 years ago. I’m really surprised The Show hasn’t updated their stadium model after all this time.
Hey not a huge huge request but it would be cool in this series to attempt to match the streak. It’s been something that has happened a few times in the Athlete’s history since Beane and for me with the 2012 season it was special. I just imagine finishing the Moneyball idea, winning with such a small budget. It’s something I do annually. Thanks for the series.
A tip for scouting is when you’re scouting an individual player. Put them as your first priority so they gain more interest in your team. It’ll make things easier come the time you need to sign them!
I will say, Ken Willis has 73-79 stamina, so you could change him from a reliever to a starter if you wanted to draft him.

My luck is bad, Laureano dislocated his ankle, gone. Peterson Torn MCL gone. Lol shit luck first half of the season. Oh Peterson got hurt twice, forgot to mention so he is gone for me next year.
Love the videos. This season is a painful watch but it will get better. Your RF is a good ball player, get at least 2 prospects for him, we need players for next season.

Gotta say while Laureano would be good trade bait, you might want to consider hanging onto him as a rebuilding piece as he seems like a solid enough player. But, then again, if you can get a good haul with something like some really high draft picks it might be worth it. Just my two cents. In the meantime take care and I look forward to many more episodes yet to come.
Watching your games I have some advice.
Pay attention to your opposing outfield defenders. If you have a runner on first base and you get a hit to the outfield. If your runner has at leat 50-55 speed and the defender has a weak-average arm, you should be running 1st-3rd almost every time.

You have a triple A team you can use if you need some fresh arms, I know they might suck but it's better than a tired reliever

I like seeing the scouting portions of the game, those are usually some of my favorite bits of running a franchise. In my NBA2K franchise modes I always trade everyone off for draft picks and then rebuild the team with all CPU-generated players that I scouted, so I like that as a focus for your A's team.
Go for the generational talents as often as ya can, soon you'll be stacked with a Griffey Jr and Randy Johnson and Alex Rodriguez!
I don't know the CPU trade logic with MLB The Show-- can you trade for bad contracts with draft picks attached to help other teams save money? In real life, NBA teams regularly do this (I know the NBA more than MLB is why I use the NBA as an example), but NBA 2K's trade logic unfortunately doesn't really reflect that reality. Your payroll is so cheap, you could afford to absorb some bad contracts as long as it's sweetened with juicy draft picks. If that's not how MLB the Show works, at least you'll be able to get more picks by trading some of your decent dudes away.
I think boosting certain players potential like Diaz and Blackburn will make the series better so they aren’t just playing well for no reason
If Ken Willis really has stamina like that, then he’s a starter and not a reliever. Could be why he’s so high on the board

Aaron Don could be a generational player. There can be 1 or 2 in a draft. Im pretty sure they have to be 18 out of high school.
I found a reliable reliever Anthony Kay from Chicago he would be pretty easy to get
Have you considered relocating? Or at the very least creating a new stadium in Oakland? Everyone says Vegas but I think Portland, San Jose, or Salt Lake City would be cool and unique.

Hey man down in double a should be Gunnar Hogland he's actually pretty decent and you should consider bringing him up and trade Laureono for some bullpen depth.

When it comes to relief pitching just trade old low potential players for relivers or even starters and move them to the bullpen
You probably shouldn’t draft a reliever before like the 10th round. Especially with the shape your team is in. You should only focus on the bullpen once everything else is put together.

As much as I like the idea of trading anyone of any value for prospects, the best rebuild is one that spares the fans of the most suffering while still taking them to the promised land in the end.
PLEASE play less games and sim more! I want to be invested in this series but its too slow paced.
Yea especially since most of those players won't be a part of the future or c and below potential.
At this pace it's going to take a long time to get into season 2 and 3 when we really start to see the future and improvements.
