Panasonic Inverter Microwave- new technology review

  • The newest technology in microwaves is inverter technology- championed by Panasonic and licensed to GE. The inverter lets the microwave actually cook at different powers. Traditional microwaves have psudo power levels- but they really are always cooking at either full power or no power. Using an inverter lets the Panasonic microwaves simmer foods and defrost evenly and completely.

My Panasonic Inverter microwave oven has been operating continuously since 2006, and I use mine several times a day. I recommend them to friends, but the problem is that nearly everybody thinks every microwave oven is the same as any other. The Inverter technology allows continuous simmering at lower energy levels and once you know what level to use for whatever you're cooking (oatmeal, pasta) there are no more boilovers. Also, these have some of the largest internal volumes per exterior volume of any microwave ovens.

Panasonic with Inverter Tech is the ONLY M-Wave I will ever buy again. My previous "basic" Panasonic lasted 10+years and was also great. My 1250 watt inverter by Pana still going strong after 6+ years of everyday use. Food come out fantastic! LOVE Panasonic

I will never buy another Panasonic microwave again, or anything Panasonic at all, old ones that were made in Japan were fine 90's and earlier, Newer ones are lucky to get 2 years without dying, sad because Panasonic and Sharp used to make the best microwaves, now they are both sub par.

Good overview. I have had 2 Panasonic 1200 Watt 1.6 cu ft microwaves (2004, 2007) with inverter technology and also 18 "Genius" auto sensor cooking menu options. My last one gave out this week and looking at the current models. I use my microwaves a lot to heat up and also cook food. Whether someone gets good use from the inverter and sensor technologies may depend on how the microwave is used, but technologies both were very much a benefit for me.
I loved my microwaves and got a lot of use out of them. Currently looking to get another and figuring out the latest models. Definitely recommend!

Do these inverter microwave ovens allow to reduce the power while cooking like on a gas stove without restarting it with a new programme? They seem to be lacking a knob for that. Let's say I bring the food to a boiling point and see that the level is rising and about to spill over.
I had a Samsung brand that cooked the food at full power for 30 seconds and then another 30 seconds the power was off. It was crap. Not sure what is wrong with it, because it failed with "P2" code, the display is fully lit and it won't start. I suspect it is in the electronics, which were unncessary if none of the reduced power programmes could actually be used.

Hi. Exactly what happened with mine. Panasonic NN-ST452W in white colour. Bought it i think in 2014 , like the design, touch buttons etc..i only use microwave for heating food, never done cooking in it or any microwave actually but what happened, two days ago, we had power cut here and when they switched the power back on, microwave all of the sudden when tried to use it, set it up to 2 minutes 30 seconds to heat up my rice , it worked for 27 seconds and then switched off and the code H98 popped up on the screen. Nothing worked and actually when i touched the rice it was cold so it did not even work for those 27 seconds. So i turned OFF the power socket switch and back on again as none of the touch buttons worked. Microwave reseted itself (time) ,the code H98 disappeared but as soon as i tried to use it again, the same happened, only 27 seconds pretend to work and then back H98. When opened and closed the door, the fan started running for strange reason and i AM DISAPPOINTED. I liked that microwave,i got used to it,i never used any other program apart from heating food or defrosting once in a while and i thought it would last a bit longer. Found on the internet that the code H98 is faulty MAGNETRON,you can even watch videos of replacing it, it apparently could cost as little as £25 which is I think reasonable price as this microwave this particular model today still costs around £160 but we ordered new one, Bosh 25 litre which DPD delivered 25 minutes ago and it is already in the place. From now i am going to stick with the Bosh as we have had the same dishwasher, tumble drier and until last year washing machine for over 20 years. The old Bosh washing machine developed some sort of the code last year so we decided to get new Bosh which is much quieter than the old Bosh but lasting 20 years is i think very good deal and as i said , our old Bosh dishwasher and tumble drier is still working perfectly after decades and you can even buy it today new in the shop with slightly renewed design looking almost the same as the old ones,so not that much seemed to change in this world(apart from electricity consumption i guess) Also few years ago,we got John Lewis fridge which broke down after two years. I like John Lewis as the shop BUT Never John Lewis electronics again, It was year or two ago and we got new one from Bosh which so far is working and i hope it is going to be no trouble for as long as our other Bosh appliances. I use for my DIY tools from Bosh and i am all for Bosh, any of their product.

I had to replace a door latch a couple of years ago, but otherwise, this is the most reliable and useful microwave oven I've ever had. The inverter thing really makes it more useful than any other kind of microwave oven. It can simmer stuff continuously at lower levels thereby avoiding boilovers.

The microwave is awesome . . .the door latch is ridiculously cheap and loud when the door is closed. The cheapness of the door latch means that unless you want to take the cover off and bend the door latch assembly bracket over occasionally to make it possible to get the door to register as closed without hitting it with your fist. Definately do not recommend the ones built by Panasonic (they say to just keep taking it in for service) . . . perhaps GE builds them less cheaply.

I will NEVER buy another panasonic product again -as long as I live. I bought this microwave and the metal holding the door safety interlock assembly is so flimsy that it constantly needs to be bent back into position. Panasonic USED to make decent equipment, and this microwave is a really nice one. I could have paid a LOT LESS, but I figured quality costs. Not so with panasonic. Junk. -I also purchased a panasonic DVD / VHS combo unit (DMR-EZ-48V) brand new from a local chain store. Both of these products didn't eve last a year before they started failing. I paid almost $300.00 for the DVD combo unit. I replaced it with a used pawn shop Samsung that is still performing flawlessly for $50.00. I was really upset when the microwave failed about 1 year after purchase. It's not worth my time to argue with some stonewaller in customer service, or the shipping to send anything back.. but I will cut, copy paste and tell others: IF YOU WANT PANASONIC PRODUCTS -DONT COUNT ON ANYTHING LASTING MORE THAN 1 YEAR. IT WILL FAIL YOU -just like panasonics (past good) reputation has failed me twice in the last 3 years...

Now, when we press the start button, nothing happens. Have to keep opening and closing the door and eventually it may want to run once. Rinse and repeat. It's going to the scrap yard today.

So the term "inverter" is a lie, and these actually use the opposite (a rectifier) to work. There ought to be a law prohibiting deliberately misleading nomenclature.
Think about it: an inverter is what creates AC electricity. To apply an "inverter" to an AC power source is worse than pointless.

This it a whole bunch of BS. PWM modulation is used in all, both inverter- and HV-transformer microwaves! Any magnetron always works at 100% power, and the only way to implement different power levels is to PWM. Of course there's no difference for defrosting and such.

The consumer never gets a straight answer because these suppliers think we are a bunch of schmucks which is unfortunately somewhat warranted. I actually know what pulse width modulation is and the definition is everywhere. So now we have it: The magnetron operates at rated full blow for pulses at "max boost" scattered perhaps evenly ( along the time axis) with adjusted duration i.e. width so the thing is no different than the old fashioned way of switching the magnetron on and off at max power except it is finer grained. No wonder the damned things wear out quickly - they are worked to death - that is the power supply is. Now a better more honest way of reducing the power might be by automatically placing a variable absorber between the magnetron and the food and "waste" the unwanted energy. What a misuse of the word "inverter": it also has definition!
