Swamp N Stomp is a channel or vlog, whatever you want to call it, dedicated to helping the hunting community grow, specifically in Florida. Studies show that the majority of modern hunters had family members who raised them as hunters, and a large portion of non-hunters want to hunt but don't know where to start. By documenting our hunting adventures, making instructional or tutorial videos, and really anything-hunting-related videos, we hope to help bridge that gap by providing practical information for beginner and experienced hunters on how to become a better and more ethical hunter. I feel like is Way too much noise especially in those quiet mornings you will scare all game out of the area especially if you Hunt high pressured public lands!
As he stated near the beginning of the video, he’s not attempting to be quiet cause he’s not actually hunting. It can be done very quiet liz But the few noises that this method makes are no different than the kinds of noises deer hear in the woods anyway. It’s the metal clanging that really scares deer. We’ve killed plenty of game using this method. Is this the best method to go climb up a tree overlooking a buck bed while the buck is likely to be in there? No absolutely not, but that’s not really our style of hunting. We like to focus on pinch points where the deer are probably not bedded near at the time we are setting up so it’s not a concern
Climbing this way can be very quiet. He’s making no attempt to be quiet here. Just showing the process.
more gear than necessary, keep the platform in your pack, and just climb with a foot loop on the bottom tether, stand up and move the top tether, , tighten it up by dropping your thigh that has your leg loop on the top tether along with your saddle, then sit into the saddle, move up the foot loop and bottom tether, and repeat….ditch all the extra gear and the noise and the weight and the wear on your top tether with the ascender
@@kennethrogers1129make a video of it please
@@kennethrogers1129
You’re talking about 2 tether climbing, right?
I'll stick with my stcks
Me too. I just don’t understand why it’s so hard to take sticks in there is zero way this is faster in any way. I hike miles with my sticks and platform. I firmly believe climbing methods like this would never be a thing if it wasn’t for CZcams they only do it to show other people.
Do they rattle much? LOL
I feel like every video of saddle hunting demo everyone is always in a perfect tree that a climbing stand could rock n roll on with ease!
Maybe but why would you want to use a climber? Saddle is way better. -Mark
The difference is weight and 360 degree shooting ability... Plus you can use a saddle in trees with branches by alternating your ropes.... With a climber you have to pe way more picky on the tree but you are right for video sake they do tend to pick trees that would be great for a regular climber stand
So much ridiculousness
Love the jackaround factor I will definitely not be doing this lol 😂
Climbing sticks are so light nowadays.
No personal anchor??
What do you mean? Are you asking if I am anchors to the tree? Then yes, the rope remains attached at all times. -Mark
It'd be awesome to see a full length video on this!
It’s a cool method but it is just too difficult for me when they make a climbing stand.
Lighter and easier to negotiate limbs.
Eventually you will realize the platform climber method is the way 😉
No no definitely not. It’s too unstable
Yea until you need to move far left or right in ur saddle lmao 😂
That’s the dumbest way to climb
Ifeel like it's Just way too much gear to adequately use hunting, plus super slow, I get it's something different, but the climbing stand just seems more efficient all the way around
A climbing stand is great once you get to the tree. But getting to the tree sucks. The saddle is great to get to the tree and good for climbing. The pros outweigh the cons for saddle hunting in my opinion
@@SwampNStomp I can go with that I guess, for someone who's never tried it I guess it just looks like a lot of "moving parts"you could say.... but I gotta say it looks a lot more versatile as far as shooting capability
Climbing stands are great, especially for short hikes, but not for long hikes, and scouting out new ground and spontaneous climb, lightest climber is well my Summit archery stand weights 15 lb, not that heavy but a two tether system weights about 5, depending on the ropes you choose, amsteel is really light, but the new jrb friction hitches seem to work best with rope, prusiks jam too tight with weight, and even a SRS or MRS system with tactical ropes heck 100 ft of rope only weighs 3 lb!!! Only additional item is ring of steps or a platform and a few more feet of rope for friction hitches , and a few carbariners, saddle hunt is great, mobility around the tree, tree hides you, very comfortable, lightweight, try ithI’m really liking a two tether system I’m working on improving, used it this season started out with some old climbing rope that was about 12 mm, pretty thick, then switched to amsteel, now going with Tuefelberger Resc Tech which is like OPLUX TACTICAL, but cheaper , just as good, working on a way to have a self tending lineman rope as I climb , that will help me on bigger trees……check our JRB climbing methods and two tether systems
Good luck
Chainsaw had the tree down by the time I watched this shit. 😜
This works good on those pines behind you loaded with branches as well?
No but if it’s loaded with branches I would just throw my rope up and SRT up the tree. This is specifically for the trees that I can’t climb the STA I normally would
Lol 😂
Today on this episode of make it way more difficult than it needs to be..😂
I don’t understand y ppl struggle with this concept so much. I clearly state that this is a method that can be used when you have no other choice… it’s not a preferred method by any means… -Mark
No humpnbump here!!!
Some women like it that way.
👍⚡soo where can I sign up for the class??
Very good way to climb but I would add a safety rope or a lines man rope at waist level so if you fall you dont catch your fingers under your climbing rope
The rope is longer than my arms so if I fall my fingers will be clear of that rope before it tightens up
And ur back will break
Clank clank clank
I’m ngl, heard you say you had a new method at the pig roast, now that I see it, absolutely genius. First time seeing this method and it makes soo much sense
You don’t need this, I’m sure you’ll just walk into the woods opening day, closure your eyes and a giant buck will come running to you and keel over at your feet. These kinds of methods are for us peasants that have no luck! 🤣 -Mark
@@SwampNStomp 😂 that was my plan
Clangalangalangalangalang...no swamp donkey there
Awesome video yet another great way to use the tools we need and already have. Feedback if I may, I recommend tying a simple overhand on a bite anytime you go hands free, i knot the device is meant to catch and not slip under load however it happens and a simple quick overhand is a bit of redundancy that can prevent you from taking a ground fall in the event of a failure of the device.
Actually these devices specifically say to no put a knot in the tag end as they could break the device in a fall event. That said, I do now use a Cornell friction hitch above the device as a backup. I actually just posted a video about it last week that you can find on our page. Thanks! -Mark
@@SwampNStomp yeah I’ve spoken with Madrock about that and I know for legal reasons they put out the info they do. I use a grigri for now, not a fan of the springless action on the safeguard. I’ll do some pull/drop tests on the madrock, I’d like to see where they fail.
@@SwampNStomp to be fair we are also using the mad rock outside of it's written uses as a climbing belay device. I'm working on a longer video about this topic as a whole; I'm glad you mention using a hitch. My biggest point is for people in the community to back themselves up. Your content is great I appreciate you.
Way to loud I think I’ll stick to just climbing the tree by hand 😂
I feel like this is how I’d meet my end falling from a tree in a forest tryna help people 💯
That’s bad ass
Looks loud
It can be done quietly. But it’s definitely not the most efficient climb. But it’s a way to get up the tree when all you have is SRT gear and the tree doesn’t have any branches. It’s not meant to be perfect. Thanks for watching! -Mark
Completely unrelated, did you guys ever end up with a bird this past Turkey season?
No, got real close a few times. Have more footage but nothing worthy of an episode
what are you using to keep the tether from slipping down the tree
A girth hitch, it tightens around the tree when you put weight on it. -Mark
How would you descend?
Belay down the rope.
That red madrock will not start gripping if you dont hold the loose end. Get the springless one
That’s not true. It just has to generate enough friction force to overcome the force of the spring inside of it. If you use really skinny ropes it will need more speed to generate that force, but with a thick rope it come much easier. With this predator rope 11mm rope it engages the brake almost immediately when you go from slack rope to tight rope. It’s ALMOST a non issue with bigger ropes. -Mark
This comment section is hillarious
It’s such a headache. People really
Don’t get it lol -Mark
Dang you can climb mount Everest with that technique.
I would say bringing the sticks or even 1 stick would be more efficient. However, worth knowing
One eticking is definitely more efficiwnt. I came up with this is a backup plan. -Mark
I'm sorry but why wouldn't you just get a one stick and when you get to the top you use it for your platform in conjunction with a ring of steps. This is essentially what you are doing anyway only with more noise and more equipment.
🤦♂️ cause then I’d be carrying two different climbing methods wouldnt I? One stick platforms suck cause they don’t take side lids well. SRT is a much safer climbing method, but it requires a limb to throw your rope over. This is a backup plan for when you want to get in a tree that doesn’t have a limb for your rope… backup plan is the key here. Not suggesting people use this as their main way to get up a tree
@@SwampNStomp it just looks like to me you are using the platform a little like a one stick along with SRT, so you would just be replacing a platform for a one stick. I think the one stick is very easy even though I do like SRT as a backup but with pre set paracord
Btw get a good rope and not one that's been sitting around for awhile, I fell pretty fast
Imagine doing that in the pitch black dark before the sun comes up on a hunt, it’d be daybreak and you’d be sweaty as crap by the time you get set, ain’t no way I’d ever do that, I’ll just stick to ladder stands I put up in the summer
You can do that if you don’t want to be mobile. That’s your prerogative! -Mark
Basically one-sticking with borrowed toys.
Man a throw ball and the rope walking technique would set y’all up. I do tree work. Srs is the way. Check it out. Especially if you are going to set your stand before hand.
It’s amazing how many people watch this and don’t listen… that is what we do… this is just demonstrating a way to get up a tree with that gear if there’s no limb to put your throw all over. -Mark
Complicated one stick method
Dont forget Burger brake
1) two tether is my preference, 2) JRB climbing method 3) SRS 4) MRS 5) carrying that damn stand, thought about sticks but rather go with rope and non metal as much as possible
An when youre done you take a 4 hour nap. Sticks aren't leaving my pack
No offense but this is the noisiest nonsense I’ve ever seen. One sticking with a cam cleat is way better IMO
Yea I like one sticking too. But nothing is safer than SRT, so I like SRT when possible. So if I find myself in the woods needed to climb a tree without limbs to throw my line over… this is how I can get up the tree. I used it once… got up without making a peep. It’s definitely not as fast but it’ll get you to hunting height in a pinch. -Mark
@@SwampNStomp thanks for sharing either way just throwing my 2 cents in
I always wondered how you hunters climbed trees terns out its very slowly! Haha. No I know it’s about minimal gear an stealthy quietness.
I used this method one time when I just had to be in a particular tree that I couldn’t get a throw all into… it’s not the fastest but it’ll
Work in a pinch
Eventually y'all will realize screw in steps or bolt of stick are way more easy, but still respect
Yea that’s illegal so we won’t be doing that
@@SwampNStomp yea on public but still sweet way of climbing
Looks better to have sticks
Or, in July, you can take your cordless drill into the woods and put in a bunch of screw ins. You can sweat your balls off 1 time in July, or every fuckin time you want to hunt. Your choice.
Yea that’s illegal in most states…
Way to much noise for me
So pretty much one sticking
But not
To much work
I want to see a test done to see if its possible to escape from this apparatus in case of an uncontrolled fall....... Idk. This just seems a bit much.....
We don’t do guided hunts but we do have some patreon hunts. Become a patreon and you are automatically invited
This takes too long, there are better ways.
Waaay to much just to get up a tree
That was painful to watch, clumsy af
Look into the JRB hitch method here on CZcams. It’s the bees knees
Yea I’m familiar but that doesn’t address the same issue.
@@SwampNStomp its literally the same thing, using the saddle hunter hitch to basically leap frog up a tree without having to use a throwball. You may have that confused with his JRB hitches he uses for the JRB climbing method but he also has a JRB Hitch Climb method which is what im referring to.
czcams.com/video/ODpzF-wGuf8/video.html
Too much to mess with. Noise sent from extra sweat n movement. Stealth n scent free as possible is the goal
that's alot of work. what you save in wheight you spend 3 tines what it takes to climb to hunting height spreading scent all over from perspiration. cool technique for s tree trimmer but hunting, doesn't seem logical
It’s amazing how many people just don’t get it. It’s not a main climbing technique… it’s just a way to get up the tree if your main technique is SRT but you need to get in a tree that doesn’t have a limb on it to get your throwball over… it’s a last ditch effort…
@SwampNStomp I've seen guys walk up a tree with a lineman, a tether and using nothing but tension, rotating tension from lineman to tether. like you said. has to have no branches but it's a option to climb
That looks miserable compared to one-sticking.
To much work if you ask me
Too much movement. I appreciate the light and easy aspect of it, but I want to get into the tree quietly and with minimal large movements. Good technique. Not for me. Sorry.
It’s not a technique for everyday use. It’s more of a backup
Plan when normal SRT won’t get you up the tree. -Mark
looks like a modification of the two tether method, using the platform, and the ascender, very safe, but extra gear
That platform don't look very healthy
Well it’s a Tethrd… so it sucks… but that’s what I had back then and didn’t know any better. -Mark
Ruweth...
That looks like a major pain in the butt. Way to noisy
Sure is, but it’s not meant to be a main climbing method. It’s more of a backup plan for when you don’t have a limb to throw ur throw all over
Please don’t do this 😂 from a tree climber
This is pointless
Your face is pointless! 😎
Man you do whats best for you, but this shit is ridiculous
That looks like it takes waaay more energy than just carrying multiple stick sections
Fact
Whitetail hunting sure is fun 🥱😴 Zzzzzzzzzzz
This is for hunting 😅😅 get real please
It can be done very quietly but it’s definitely a last resort only to be used when there are no trees with suitable limbs for SRT. I’ve killed bucks when using this climbing method simply because there wasn’t any suitable SRT trees in the spot I wanted to hunt. It works in a pinch! -Mark
You be better off using gaffs
Yea but thats not the point. The point is that if you find yourself in a scenario with SRT gear wanting to climb a tree with no limbs… this is how u could do it
Too much noise.. too messy and too much work. Just get a simple tree two piece climber
my way is faster and easier
Uhhhh no thanks. I sweat enough with a climber or stand & sticks. I’d be Fawkin Drippin doin this. WTF.
I'm a pro! Where's your 🪖 .
