I love the desert landscape here. I love the Frijole Ranch History Museum area. Touring historical sites is one of my favorite things to do as we travel. Smith Springs is a beautiful stop. Thanks for sharing Guadalupe Mountain National Park with us!

So many hikes I need to do in that area. Wow, the highest point in Texas! Spectacular views, diverse wildlife and trees! I didn't know about this park at all, thanks for sharing as always!! ✌

We never expected Texas to look like this! It looks a lot like areas of Nevada we’ve visited. Beautiful landscape!

Be careful in Nevada its 2x as radioactive as Chernobyl at the testing site near Vegas, I wouldn't go within 150 miles of that place

Thank you! Yes it is super hot! We were there in late March and it was nice. It would definitely be too hot this time of year

We were just planning on heading there this last week. Were even going to camp! Unfortunately, plans changed beforehand and even while on the road we had to cut some things short because of all the smoke blowing around from the fires. This gives us a nice preview of when we actually can make it back out that way.

The conditions have been terrible in NM with the winds and fires. In better conditions this would be a great place to camp!! 😀

Did the hike up the mountain to the top. There’s an obelisk there and a book you can sign. It was a challenge, I was 57 when I did it, but well worth it. Also been to the ranch. Love that park and the scenery, even 20 miles to the south as you drive up highway 54 from Vanhorne.

Thanks so much!! Gosh- how many states have I been too… I had to pull up a map and count… I guess I’ve been to 30 states in my life- many as a child!

  • @thenarrowpathoftruth9443

I was worried about you being winded. Was it the altitude?

How are the elevation changes from Carlsbad to Guadalupe to El Paso? We are trying to plan a route coast to coast in our 1920 Ford Model T.

    • @SwiftyTravels

It seems like there is an elevation change heading into Guadalupe but I don’t remember any major step grades. The scenery is really pretty. Nothing on the highway to the town of carlsbad. The entry to carlsbad is up about 2000’ from white city. Sounds fun!👍

Was there any border patrol or police since its near the border? Or just park rangers?
