- The R&GVRRM is starting the excavation for the third phase of our new railroad storage siding west of the Livonia, Avon & Lakeville Railroad which will add another 150+ feet of track to the almost 400 feet of track currently installed. Before more track can be installed, the museum needs to bring the new portion down to grade, and the R&GVRRM does this work in house with its own heavy equipment.
On this day, the museum's Caterpillar D7E works along side the museum's Bucyrus-Erie 20-H hydraulic excavator which we feature in this video. Our 20-H is a solid runner. The machine's air over hydraulic controls are, however, a little finicky in the machine's older age. With a little experience at the controls, however, the machine does a lot of great work for the museum.
We hope you enjoy the video. We are always looking for new people to come out to volunteer and maintain and operate our heavy equipment. Interested? Please check out our website linked from the banner at the top of the page. Donations are also always welcome to help us keep these machines running.
Awesome video. I cannot imagine we'd have any of those over here in the UK although I did have some pictures of a Komatsu-Bucyrus 15H which a friend gave me that was on a construction site in Thailand I think. Probably taken around 1980/1981. Its fantastic to see the machine running and obviously well cared for.
Great old excavator
@Mrdancefloordj We do not have shows per se, but we are open to the public for railroad operations from May through October on Sundays. We also volunteer Tuesdays and Saturdays, and visitors are always welcome if they wish to check out with the railroad or the heavy equipment. We ask you just ask a volunteer before wandering around the property. Thanks!
@Mrdancefloordj Yes. Admission is $7 for Adults $6 for Seniors and $5 for kids. That includes admission to both the R&GVRRM and the New York Museum of Transportation and the railroad ride between them. There is more info on our website which CZcams won't let me post here, but you can just look us up on Google.
@hoemanscotty Thanks for your comment. I will pass it on to our operators for their info.
@ASPCOT We agree that we need to add new teeth to the bucket. We have a new welder beginning to volunteer and have lots of work for him to do. With that said, we are all volunteer and only have so many resources to spread around. As always, we welcome new people to help and if you are too far away to volunteer, we welcome people to click to 'Donate' button above to help us offset the cost of the maintenance and upgrades we are and need to do to keep these machines in the dirt. Thanks!
Very nice old beast...
Detroits like to carbon up at low rpms, and being 2 strokes they don't have much low end, they make most of their power at high rpms. Running it slow puts more stress on the engine than revving it up.
Justin Stearns i was going to say it sounds like its just above idle
504 Cummins?
Nice work guys.
Meanwhile, we have big prices of plastic that break down after 3 minutes of use!
Cuto tonelada pesa es maquina
สภาพเครื่องจักรที่ใช้ขุด
that must be a T&M job!!
Air over hydraulics is about a nightmare when its freezing out. Or if you have a bad mechanic. Not too bad when its warm though.
I had to watch 3 times to make sure this was not my old 20h. He needs to work it long it's much faster then running the dipper in that close
ถ้ามีแร่ขุดแน่นอน
@Conrail6370 Late 60s until about 76 or 77.
@cat325ccr Yes. Rush, NY. Just south of Rochester, NY
Upstate NY right?
Does this museum have shows, during certain weekends? Or come whenever?
Nice 20H. Probably1968 or so... I have two Koehrings in Ct. at another museum.
Great Video, What year was the 20- H built?
@66singleman Anyone can run a keyboard so come on up and show us how its done. Just don't tear the machine in half with so much throttle that you will be paying us much for than $1000.00 to repair it. As I said, we always welcome new hands to help us and teach us a thing or two. We are all volunteers and are just trying to do our best. Ironically in the over 10 years we have had and used the machine, we have never had engine trouble. Started easily and ran great again today.

Brilliant first class! Love the 20H what a machine; it is powered by either a Cummins V8 or V6 and is not the Detroit powered version. What year was that particular digger made in?
UnitCrane514
Hi there I'd beg to differ there were some of these machines fitted with Cummins V8 engines the others were indeed 4-71 Detroit powered, if you listen to similar machines on other videos posted on here then you will hear the difference. Yes the Detroit has a very distinctive sound particularly when revved high because you can hear the noise made by the Rootes type lobe blower fitted to them; both Cummins and Detroit make a distinctive sound I love em both.
+1961Jezza Yep, that's a 903 allright. No buzzing bus motor there. 2 mufflers too. A dead giveaway!
@@lewiemcneely9143 , gentlemen, if you listen at all to the 20-H, you can clearly tell it is most definitely Detroit powered. No doubt about it.
@@scottmcquarrie7295 That's probably a 555 instead of a 903. No screamer there. The 7 is making a lot of sweet noise but you'd hear a screamer around there if there was one. I've been around 7-Es and GM's from 2's to 12's and that's a Cummins. Or if it IS a screamer, get them top open the side covers so we can tell for sure. No screamer like I've ever heard.
@@scottmcquarrie7295 I hear hydraulic pump whine and that's all I hear whining.
@hoemanscotty My Dad Had a 40 in Early 70s , I think it was a 72' Boy, What i would give to hear them Air over hydraulics just one more time!! He was the first Contractor in the Northwest to have one and did a Lot of tough, deep, nasty work with that Ol piece of iron, they were great workhorses, He was bidding work with that 40 that other guys were bidding it being drilled and shot.
@rgvrrm O.K. Great! One of these Sundays I'll have to visit. Any admission price?
well fuckin beem me up hummanscotty!!!
