This Side of Romania No One Shows You

  • Today's episode here in Romania is extra special as it's a side of this country not many people show you. Rather than heading up to Corvins castle straight from Bucharest instead we headed south...to the Serbian border.
    After seeing the Danube in three other countries, we thought the Romanian countryside would be the perfect spot to actually take a boat trip on it for the first time.
    We saw
    - Veterani Cave
    - Trajan's Bridge
    - Rock Sculpture of Decebalus
    - Roman Tablet
    Next stop we decided to take an hour hike 350 meters above the Danube to see the best views of the boilers.
    That evening we arrived at our accommodation - the cutest little beach huts with the best views in all of Romania.
    Where we stayed: Dream Tricule - Danube's Boilers
    / dreamtrikuleboutique
    After awaking at sunrise in the morning we then headed out to a beautiful national park - Nera Gorges National Park to hike through the forests, see waterfalls and go for a cheeky little dip.
    We then ended our day at Casa Thea with Dada the goat, some local Romania food and some fresh juice.

    • @mihailfelixdumitresc
      @mihailfelixdumitresc Před 4 lety +16

      As a Romanian, I am yet to make up my mind as to whether Mr. Bram Stoker did a good or a bad thing promoting the character Dracula as being so ''illustrative'' of Transylvania . On the one hand, tourists who come over go and visit Dracula's castle and expect to see blood all over the place, but they don't see any as there is none. On the other hand we locals know that Dracula as pictured by Mr. Stoker is just fiction although there was a ruler called Vlad Tepes (english-Vlad the Impaler) back in the 15-th century nicknamed Vlad Dracula, who apparently was ''allergic'' to both thieves and otomans, not particularly in that order, therefore whenever he would catch either of them he would actually impale them hence the name ''the Impaler''. Also he was very determined to get rid of the aforementioned categories and he did not back down one inch until the otomans managed to capture and kill him. His method was deemed as cruel by the people of the day, people who did not give a damn that the country was in chaos and that there was no rule of law letting ordinary decent people at the mercy of thieves. Historians say that thieves got so scared of him that very shortly after he started not only impaling them but also ''advertising'' the impaled people along the main roads, virtually no thief was seen anymore and that travelers through the country could drink water from public water fountains out of mugs made of gold, as nobody would dare to steal those golden mugs whatsoever. As there were no human rights at that time, I call his method adequate because it worked. Was it cruel ? By today's standards, by no means yes, extremely cruel. Was it effective ? 100 % . If there is one thing I have learned from history classes in school is that historical facts should be judged having in mind the specifics of the time when those facts originated.

    • @amalialavric7164
      @amalialavric7164 Před 4 lety +123

      M Bayrak people think romanian comes from latin but is not true, old version of romanian is older than latin, this being the reason romanians can understand or speak spanish, italian and french without an education where as spaniels or italians can’t understand a word of romanian.

    • @subutaynoyan5372
      @subutaynoyan5372 Před 4 lety +53

      @@amalialavric7164 Well, I look to scientific classifications.
      Romanian is reckoned as a romance language. Thus, it's related to Latin.
      It's the closest form of Latin.
      Ukrainians understand Russian but Russians usually don't understand Ukranian, so what? Does that mean their roots can't be same? No

    • @amalialavric7164
      @amalialavric7164 Před 4 lety +54

      Linguistics dont have much in common with science, rather with history. But history, just as science have been heavily manipulated. So where science fails to give answers or history seems to contradict itself i rely on common sense. And i belive everything has one root, humanity comes from one place , and all languages come from one. Linguists devide languages in categories, for example english is a germanic language having things in common with dutch and german, russian is a slavic language having things in common with ukranian,and bulgarian , also former Yugoslavia where today 5 countries speak the same language, latin root - that follows italian spanish and french languages.... but if u study romanian you will find words that u meet in all of these languages combined, so who spoke it first? Because Dacians were established in Dacia (today Romania) more than 2000 years ago.... and their territory includes a part of Serbia and Ukraine today, all related to thracians , all together being a vast territory and speaking the same language..... all in one, a lot of proof has been erased, but there is still some left that will soon be discovered. There’s only a limited time you can hide the truth, every lie has an expiration date.

    • @subutaynoyan5372
      @subutaynoyan5372 Před 4 lety +26

      @@amalialavric7164 First of all, linguistics have a huge amount of various aspects, ethnology, morphology and such. It isn't just history. What history paved the way of deciphering of Hitite Language? No, it was measurable know how and a methodology, that is open to critisicms and suggestions.
      That, is science.
      And about Romanian, it isn't just words, or vocabulary. Turkish for example has a huge amount of Iranian vocabulary, but is a Turkic language. Why? Because grammar, evolution, conjugations and such.
      Of course, there are a lot of debates of what is and what is not a specific language.
      But Romanian, at it's structure. Is a Romance language.

    The first time I stepped my foot on the ground in Romania I fell in love! My husband is from the area near the Danube and we visited the cave as well.. the whole country is breath taking I really hope that more people notice its beauty! So many possibilities for tourism there! One place to put on the list when traveling thru is Alba Iulia what a beautiful town and a perfect pit stop.

    07:26 Well, hello from the town on the other side (with these lights which you could see, in the background) :) But it's not in soviet style at all. It is one of the most beautiful towns on the banks of Danube in Serbia, with very few buildings, instead of it there are big houses, from the time when the town was wealthy, and also marine, beach, parks, National park visitor center, many historic sites nearby etc. It is called Donji Milanovac.
    One interesting fact: old towns of Orsova (Romania), Donji Milanovac (Serbia) and few others there are actually under the water, they were submerged by counstruction of the big dam (that you have probably visited, between Turnu Severin and Orsova) which Serbia (at that time Yugoslavia) and Romania have built in 1963-1972. Before that Danube was smaller there.
    However, I am glad that you have visited the Iron Gates, rarely mentioned but for sure one of the most breathtaking destinations in Romania and Serbia :)

    Im so glad people like yourself are giving Romania the publicity it deserves! There is so much history and culture you can endlessly explore, minus the huge crowds! From a proud Romanian living in Australia! 🇷🇴🇭🇲
