small differences. make a big difference. very good video
Straight to the point. Excellent video man thanks
Would be nice to see them on the RS2 and in your hands but still helpful video!
Thank you!
Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks man! :)
Glad it helped!
still a great video in 2023! thank youuu david
thank you!! glad it helped!
just bought mine 2 days ago and already loving it during the shoot @@djeffway
I used the DJI twist grip. One thing that I am totally disappointed is that the knob ( that allows you to change from dual handle to underslung mode ) drop off easily and there is NO SPARE PARTS for this small knob.. Once you drop this knob, you won't be able to change the mode. And when I spoke to DJI, I can only purchase a new set and they quoted me a price that is $40 higher than their listed price stated on their website.
Thankyou for this!!
You forgot to mention that the Small Rig has the same rail up and down. And so it can be flipped. The DJI one has to be completly unmounted and changed to the other side !
Great video! I just got my twist grip and I was a little upset it had a quarter 20 instead of a 3/8 on the end. Why not make it bigger and be able to use an adapter. That's the one fall back
Such a good video! Thank you David, guess I'll go the dji handles 😆
Thanks Michael. Glad it helped!
Imo the best option is the single one from smallrig on tilta, trust me having the phone or monitor infront of you is the best thing ever
Can you link it so I can check it out?
@Cisco jeah to clarify, the mount that comes with the rs2 is terrible and doesnt work like that since it doesnt tilt. The ronin s or sc mount does work amazingly but id reccomend buying a cheap phone holder and tilt arm
Thank you it was really a good review
Really good job, thanks you for that!
Perfect vid. Made up my mind. Thanks man.
Glad it helped!
Great review. Helped me take decision. Thanks!
Thank you!
I figured out how it fits on the RSC 2 message me if anyone needs help
Can you help me, I’m debating if I should order the ronin handle to control the gimbal, I already have the small rig handles, and if so is it compatible with rsc 2?
this would have been better if you had shown us how you rig out each one and shown it side by side
Great review 🎉
Nice review, BUT: The small rig is 33% lighter, how can they "feel" the same? ..sounds a bit (DJI-) biased to me.
Yeah was thinking the same thing, I can tell a 200g difference when I change lenses on my camera, how can I not tell a 400g difference between the 2 hand grips? That should have been a clear pro for the smallrig.
I was about the get the DJI one but got the small rig for 40% off couldn't say no
Still a great choice!
awesome video
Hey David, very informative video thank you ;)
I would like to use a handle system but I usually prefer to have the handle coming upward from the rail towards the camera.
I know that the DJI have only NATO rail on one side so they must be mounted upside down in this case, which doesn't seem to be a big problem for me.
Except when switching to briefcase the handle will be facing in the wrong direction... But I can fix that with quick release systems ;)
But what about the SmallRig, is it NATO on both side ?
Thank you
Hi Tao! I wish I had a better answer for you, but I sold the SmallRig handle because I just wasn't using it. I don't remember from when I had it. I did a little research and on the SmallRig handle description on Adorama, it says "The handgrip is designed with two-side NATO rails, which is not only horizontal adjustable, but also easy for detachment and support shooting in inverted mode." I assume this means there are NATO rails on both sides.
@@djeffway Thank you 🙏 ✨
I went for the DJI Twist Handle in the end and mounted nato rails on top ;)
Can both units allow you to mount the handles on top instead (like upside down)? I know the DJI one does I believe
To be honest I don't still have the SmallRig. I know for a fact the DJI can be switched upside down. I believe the SmallRig can be as well, but can't confirm 100%.
Yes you can do it with Smallrig.
Hey David thanks for posting your review on these almost 2 years ago. I am definitely getting either the Smallrig or the DJI twist grip version but I need your help. What do you think about briefcase mode now? Do you actually use briefcase mode or would you prefer just using the dual handle upside down? What are your thoughts?? Thanks in advance!
Hey Nikko! To be honest, I have barely used briefcase mode. Prior to buying the RS2, I had a Zhyiyun Crane gimbal and almost always used it upside with a dual handle because I felt it was smoother that way. When I got the RS2, I was expecting to use it upside down most of the time too, since that was what I was used to. However, the way the RS2 is designed makes it nearly impossible to use upside down. One of the arms actually sits directly above and in front of the lens when you're upside down with it, and is oftentimes in your shot and inhibits you from panning up at all. But, I've adapted to using it right side up and have loved it, and actually prefer it now. So, to answer your question, I don't use briefcase mode, unless I was doing a really low-to-ground shot, and using it upside down doesn't really work. Hope that helps!
@@djeffway appreciate you so much thanks your input was super helpful =) take care bud
Hi, your video is helpful coz I’m choosing between them now! Quick question on the attachment that you use for the monitor (the one that you attached the monitor to the DJI R Twist Grip Dual Handle), can you please recommend that connector so I can connect the monitor to the handle? Thanks so much.
This is the monitor mount I use: www.smallrig.com/smallrig-ballhead-extension-bar-for-magic-arms-1-4-screws-2109.html
@@djeffway Thank you David.
thanku 😄
Hello. Enjoyed your video. I'm thinking of going with the DJI. But, I need to use the grip with an Easyrig. Do you know if the DJI works with the Easyrig?
Unfortunately, I don't know as I've never used an Easyrig before. I would assume you would need some sort of attachment for the gimbal to connect to the Easyrig, and I'm assuming you could use it like any other gimbal. But, I don't have any experience with it.
Hi, thanks for the video. Can you please tell me the name of the attachment that connects the monitor at 2:13 please? I'm having a hard time finding it. Thanks
Hey Justin - here is a link to the SmallRig accessory: smallrig.com/smallrig-universal-magic-arm-with-small-ball-head-2163.html?afmc=3yp let me know if you have any other questions!
issue is still pulling focus - i know DJI do have a set of grips with the wheel available near the handle?
DJI does have a tethered control handle that has a wheel. It can attach to the dual grip handle. I am not 100% sure if that wheel can adjust focus, but I believe there is a setup to do so.
Where is you get the little mount for the gimbal?
Can you mount the expansion Dji tethered handle onto the small rig dual arms?
I'm not sure, I didn't try that. Sorry!
Can you fit a 7inch on it ?
Yes, I use a 7 inch with no issues
Thanks David. I wonder if the smallrig is long enough for the 7 inch. Looks like it’s not much of a difference.
@@philvfilms it wasn’t too much of a difference. I don’t have the Smallrig anymore to compare, but I do believe the DJI fit more comfortably with the 7”
@@djeffway I think the added twist side is a bonus though as you show in the video. Thanks again
@@philvfilms you’re welcome!
Awesome setup! Where would you mount a monitor on the handle?
I try to use the furthest mount toward the end of the handle (away from the gimbal body). But I also have a SmallRig Articulating Arm with Dual Ball Heads that I usually mount to the side 1/4" thread and then attach my monitor to. It allows me to get a better viewing angle of my monitor and get the monitor away from the gimbal so they don't physically hit each other when I'm on the run.
Will a 5 inch monitor be ok or get in the way of the gimbal arms when doing moves on the small rig? I can’t sss any photos of anyone with it setup
Hi Phil. My thought is that it should work. I would just suggest attaching it to the port furthest from the gimbal toward the handle. If anything, you might need a small adapter to increase the length but I would certainly think a 5" should work just fine.
no focus knob on either of the handles?
Neither dual-handles come with focus wheels.
Are there any handles that have (remote) controls for the dji RS2 built in?
There are no dual grip handles that have controllable handles built in that I know of. Your best bet would be to buy the separate tether control handle and attach it to a dual grip handle.
I’m still torn. It’s a $90 difference in Canada.
If extra space for accessories like monitors, mics, etc. isn't a factor for you, go with the SmallRig. Otherwise, you'll be too crowded. DJI has more room for that.
@@djeffway definitely a mic and maybe a screen one day. Maybe a panel light too.
you didn't even touch on the twist grip. that alone is a "game changer"
I wonder if the control handle could work with the small rig version?
My guess is that it would, since it connects electronically via a wired control cable that connects the handle to the gimbal (at the NATO port.) Assuming the handle fits the NATO rail of the SmallRig.
@@djeffway Awesome thanks! I went with the smallrig version I like that it's smaller and more compact
@@MondragonCartel It's a great handle!
You think I should be good putting a Ninja V on the DJI arm that doesn’t twist with the RSC2? I really don’t want to get handles AND a monitor arm (and be swapping all the time).
That should definitely be doable. Just use the furthest mount toward the end of the handle (away from the gimbal body). Being a 5" monitor as opposed to a 7" should make it easier, too. The only issue I have is if I pan too far the gimbal arm will sometimes hit the monitor, but the RSC2 arms aren't as long or bulky, so it should work better. Good luck!
This product does not work well with the R SC2 because the twist knobs are too close up on the body making it impossible to tightening. This issue is the turning knobs they put on it and I wish people would actually mention that in a review instead of saying it will work on both but only showing it on the RS2. I haven’t see not one reviewer on CZcams demo this product on the R SC2
@@VideographyHG Appreciate the feedback. Wish I could've sampled this for you!
@@djeffway No worries buddy, I just wish they would've included smaller turn knobs for modification fits for the R SC2 which is a super easy fix if they would just do it.
@@VideographyHG I agree!
How can you not have a link to the grips while making a video about them?🤦🏻
Great point! I'll link to both products in the description
Question from a newbie: I want to record stabalized video of my hiking trips. Some of my hiking trips are day trips and others are 1-2 week long trips. I might need two different solutions because I wouldnt want to carry a heavy chest/vest/arm contraption for one week in the back country but might tolerate it for a day hike but it is not ideal. I would like to reproduce hiking videos that are similar this youtube example ( czcams.com/video/U1j-eO3-aR8/video.html ) Do you think any of the Dual Handgrip solutions you reviewed in this video would be a good solution ? If not can you suggest a solution ? I am new to all this so I know nothing - not even where to start. Thank you.
Hey! Happy to help. The gimbal and dual grip definitely make it easier for longer shoots, but realistically I would not suggest using the gimbal (with or without the dualgrip) for a hiking trip of more than an hour or so. With the gimbal and a camera, you're looking at several lbs of gear and holding that in front of you gets tiring quick, nevermind hiking or navigating on what could be uneven terrain. It's a great setup but would be far too cumbersome for a hike in my opinion. Depending on the setup you have, I would honestly suggest using something like the DJI Osmo Mobile 3 Gimbal or something similar. You would connect your phone, and if you've got an iphone thats new in the past 3 years, you can likely shoot in 4k. The quality will still be great, and as long as you don't need super cinematic, shallow depth of field shots, the iphone on a gimbal would be a great, lightweight solution.
@@djeffway Thank you for responding and your suggestions. Do you think a new iphone can produce super high quaity video ? I am really trying to do something like this ( czcams.com/video/U1j-eO3-aR8/video.html ) but I just dont know how they are producing such stable video. DO you have any idea how they are doing it ?
@@newlifeeveryday1821 Yes, I think you could get similar quality with one of the newer iPhones shooting in 4k. I would suggest getting a polarizer filter (it is likely helping keep the sky blue and properly exposed) and reducing glare. And also they are using a wide-angle lens, which the new iphones have.
@@djeffway Thank you again for responding. How do you think they get such stable video as they walk down the trails ?
How on earth are you planning to keep a gimbal charged for 2 weeks off the grid?
This video has been really interesting especially because as a new owner of the dji rsc 2 I an getting some information to make my experience better.
All of this because I also own a CZcams channel.
