  • I recently packed all my eurorack/modular stuff away on my spare desk in the studio, so that I could do some more focused and minimal setups using different synths etc for a while. With this one I'm using the Virus Darkstar and Torsa S-4 (single track, looping/overdubbing) to create some evolving soundscapes on the fly. Please excuse some pops and clicks sometimes, it's due to the S-4 looper track de-coupled playback and recording heads (playback is at half-speed), sometimes it creates a glitch when the heads overlap while there's audio input, it gets better further into the video when I understood what was happening.
    Audio FX were a combination of internal Virus FX (mostly the delay), reverb from the Eventide H90 (custom dual preset), and sometimes the delay/verb from the S-4.

    If you enjoyed the video/content. Please consider liking/subscribing, it really helps the channel and pushes the algorithm a little. CZcams is really bad lately for AD income for everyone it seems, false ID claims on videos and other cr&p aren't helping, so any extra likes and subs are very much appreciated. Thank you!

      Aside from liking/subscribing, does commenting on a video help to push the YT algorithm? I'm pretty new to the YT business, and recently had an automated ID claim on a video for the first time. I was very confused, as it appeared to me that the main coincidence was an a-minor chord. Now, I'm scratching my head if there are people who have a copyright on the a-minor chord... 🤔

      @@MinorRandomNoise I'm not aware of comments affecting the algorithm, but who knows! Yeah these auto ID claims are a pain and unfortunately you'll have to deal with them sometimes. Just dispute as soon as possible and mention that it's entirely your own original work, and that you can prove it/own the original project files.

    Wish I got one before they became 'vintage' and stupid pricing. There was a point in between you could grab one at a good price. Never understood what the Virus was until it was too late. LOL. Cool demo.

    Awesome ! I had the Polar and the B back in the days . They ruled the end 90's and 00's as best synth's. It's so sad they unplugged the support affter the TI2 serie's. I 've no regret that I 've sold them. There are much better synth's these days. But when I see your vid,it does hurt,..a little..;)

    • @stateazure
      @stateazure  Před 2 měsíci +3

      Are there much better synths these days though? IMO the Virus TI2 still has no match, it's even still much more powerful than a lot of synths today - many of which seem vastly underpowered and often lacking decent polyphony, multitimbrality and short on essential sound design features. I guess this just goes to show how powerful the Motorola DSP chip was used in the Virus. Today we have FPGA chips, which seem good but maybe not as powerful and I've heard they are very hard to program. I'm not even sure what I could compare my Virus to in my studio, it's not really outclassed by anything else I have, including my Super Gemini and Waldorf Iridium, nor can either of those really sound like the Virus. But yeah I agree, it's sad they'll be no more Virus synths. I just hope we get much better chips and powerful synths some time in the near future, because there aren't too many synths to get excited about today and most come with limitations that leave you scratching your head in 2024.

    • @TrillianMilesMusic
      @TrillianMilesMusic Před 2 měsíci

      @@stateazure Oh, I agree with you that in 2024 much more is expected from those synthesizers that are currently on the market. Everyone copies each other. But real innovation is lacking. It seems like everything has been at a standstill for a long time. Maybe the Osmose is a step,but I don't like the sounds.( I could be wrong because I only heard the demo's on YT.) I replaced my Polar with the Novation Summit. I have no regrets about that. Especially with the onboard FX, it has been my favorite synth for a while. But knowing myself, there's a good chance I'll get a TI2 someday. I'm just so afraid that if it breaks down (which I've been reading about quite often lately), you'll be in quite a bit of trouble because there's no support.

    • @stateazure
      @stateazure  Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@TrillianMilesMusic The Omose has some nice sounds, and the keybed is absolutely wonderful to play, but the synth engine is a nightmare. Arturia Polybrute 12 takes a very similar MPE expressive keybed and puts that on a Polybrute synth, that's really quite exciting for me since I love that keybed. Unfortunately I can't really afford one at the moment :) Summit is great, I still have one, though that synth took at least 2X FGPA chips I believe, but it's a lovely synth with probably the best internal reverb I ever heard on a synth. Regarding the Virus, even if you had one that breaks, you would be legally in your right to use the new Virus chip emulator (and full Virus emulation), it's 100% a Virus in software (I've not tried it myself, but hear good things).

    • @TrillianMilesMusic
      @TrillianMilesMusic Před měsícem

      @@stateazure Yeah, Gotta dive into that. A virus as a Vst(aax in my case) would be perfect. The Polybruut12 .Man,..I've seen some vids now. Gotta say,yes Love it. But the price,..Man,man,man, .. I mean hardware synths is my passion,..but.,, pfff.. I can sell my Waldorf Iridium keys,I might be half way. But I love that synth so much.
