great truck. 12 valves are awesome i got one 2 years ago and have been slowly modifying it. its a lot of fun and a easier truck to learn how to modify for a beginner. i new nothing about diesel trucks but i have learned and done all the work myself. mine is only about 400hp i need to rebuild the trans and do head studs before i go any further with it.

Mines a 1997 12 valve 7 speed manual performance transmission in it. Shifts badass. It’s got 750+hp currently I might go for a 1000 or a little over because my goal for it to be as badass as possible. Its all gloss black and chrome. The chrome being the stacks, the rims, grille, bumpers, yeah. The engine has been tooken out because the truck has actually been in a crash when I bought it. The front was messed up. Rebuilt the engine and made it extremely powerful and just pure badass. Painted it red and black and the turbos and the tubing on the engine is chrome. It’s a big powerful loud beast of a motor. Rolls coal all the time. I’ve always loved the 1st second gen 12 valve Cummins dodge trucks. As my first ever vehicle I am extremely happy to have found one in good condition for cheap and only having the front end to deal with. We had to get a new hood basically. The grille is a custom one, the lights are and the bumper is like a battery ram. (I built the bumper. It’s a badass truck. All you have to do to feel like a badass in a dodge truck, is just make it smoke, straight pipe it, put a custom exhaust on it, custom rims, that’s it. The older dodges actually smoke stock too. I’ve seen an old 89 dodge Cummins thing rolled coal and it was stock. Gotta love the dodges. 🤘🏼
I like to keep my 97 5 speed right around 350hp extremely reliable and can tow just about anything. It’s the best of both worlds

You can defiantly control the power, if u control the fuel pressure you can easily control the mileage and power...
My dad had that exact same truck, a green 1995 2500 regular cab long bed 4x4 diesel. That could even be it, Illinois isn't that far from Ohio.
Afc live and/or attitude adjuster both can adjust power in the cab. So you can tune these engines on the fly, and at that power level why you wouldn't have head studs is beyond me. Cheap insurance against failure

I'm a little bit confused on the factory head stud part because I'm pretty sure that would be impossible take Johnny sendit for example his truck was making around 800 he blew the head gasket out so much that it was pissing out water and it had a set of 425 in it
It's on stock head studs. The times we got on it was really the only time he does get on it.
It’s pretty common for the budget builds to just over torque the head bolts, I ran stock head bolts up to about 680hp on a single 66mm turbo.
Sent it had compounds not a big single compounds create more cylinder pressure

You're best bet is compound turbo set-up.
What can I do to get 800 out of her

Start with 4000rpm gov springs valve springs a fuel plate and a clutch, you need to be able to handle the HP before you get there
First of all, I’m pretty certain you’ll never need 800 hp to tow anything that a Dodge 12V Cummins could ever physically handle lol, and second of all, at any power level past 450 hp, your reliability won’t be shit lol. If you want a good tow setup, first take your transmission and driveline, and build it up first, you want to build that first to handle the power, and weight you plan on pushing on it, if you build the engine first like most people do, and leave everything else stock, you’re just basically building a hand grenade lol. You can build to 450 hp, and that is about where all the Newest Diesel pickups are at power wise, and you’ll have probably right at or not for from+/- 1000 tq. That’s plenty of tow power for anything in a 12V’s GCVW tow rating anyways. So build the tranny, and driveline for about 700 hp rated, and that’ll make a pretty bulletproof driveline for towing, then you can start on the engine, you need KDP fixed, ARP 625 head studs, Banks cold air intake with boost tubes, Banks intercooler upgrade with Vibrant hoses, and Clamps, Banks twin ram air intake horn upgrade to keep #6 cylinder cool, better control EGT’s, Compound turbo setup, for towing probably use a factory size turbo for the small turbo, and a s468 turbo from Borgwerner as the big charger on top, some Vibrant #10 lines for your oil feed lines to the turbos, with the splitter fitting, take your P-Pump, and do the 4K governor spring upgrade, then turn the fuel up about 1 full turn not much, you don’t want to over fuel it, or it will cause a runaway, change your injectors to probably around 75 hp or 100 hp max injectors, don’t forget to change head gasket, when you do studs, install Manton extreme duty valve springs, the readjust valves, install Hamilton Billet Camshaft, and do an exhaust brake add, upgrade your braking power so you can control your towing, then you should be able to tow a mountain side across the country lol, and be around the 450 hp mark for reliable towing. 800 hp is pretty pointless, and all your doing at that power level is, wasting fuel, tires, and engine parts. 13 liter semi truck engines are at anywhere between 500hp-650hp and 2200 tq, and tow 88,000 lbs of weight across country, and so we all know 88,000 lbs is enough to snap the rear axles in two on a 1ton 12V Dodge Cummins Dually lol. So 450 hp, and 1000 tq is plenty for towing with a old 1ton 12v Dually lol, your probably looking at a GCVW of like 25,000 lb for that specific model truck from that era lol. You can’t legally tow more than that on the highway anyways, unless you want some DOT friends to slap you with some violations, and fines lol.

You know that truck came factory with a hydrostatic transmission from the factory it's a 47re with some billet parts
From the factory, they are both hydraulic and electronic. The transmission in that truck was straight hydraulic.
It's shift into gear by cable as in park, reverse, drive. Yes the torque converter needs a ground but other then that is a fully mechanical transmission
The transmission itself from the factory works off of hydraulic pressure and electronic. The transmission in Jordan's cummins is all hydraulic. Yes their is a cable from the transmission to the shifter to tell it what gear to go in.
Jaren Holleback its a full in-house goerend 47rh. Not an E. Only the 94 trucks had the h transmissions.

Re torque factory headstuds from the factory 115ft/lbs to 125-130ft/lbs. Motor trend post a review where they interviewed few engine builders trying to push limits and yes have numbers in 800hp+ factory headstuds

I run an s483 and I can push around 80 psi, my truck makes about 850hp

Im on my 2nd 12 valve my 94 had compounds 62 over a 76 with 5x.016 and yours appears to run just as well if not better. Trying to stick with a single charger on this 98 i just bought. Thanks!!

You got a video of it on the dyno? Im not doubting you as ive seen other 12v's with stock bolts and quite a bit of hp. I just want to see it spin those rollers and have the paper to prove it.
