When people use the term... "I'll be honest with you" or "to be honest" looks like a cover up or compensation for something. Excuses.

Yeah I think he’s hiding more stuff than he’s saying. Lots of double talk and excuses why he failed before. He did not say anything about his 2 kids till later in the conversation, all the while claiming he won’t be distracted with relationships etc. I’ll be honest with you usually means they’re not being honest. He said that multiple times.
