- The typical rolling bass line is best known from the psytrance genre. But more recently it has found its way into peak time techno. It can be heard in tracks by Eli Brown, Teenage Mutants, Space 92 and many more. In this video, Lukas shows you how to create the typical galloping 16th bass line using Ableton Live's Wavetable synthesizer, with 3 levels of complexity.
The first level involves writing and designing the MIDI line and synth patch. The second level is all about tweaking the sound and the MIDI. Level 3 involves processing, mixing and layering.
The Peak Time Techno Production Suite, including the project file shown in the video, can be found here:

You might do well to mention the necessity of an oscilloscope to check phase alignment of kick and bass. If there's phase cancellation between them it can really deaden the impact of the low end (especially on the 2nd beat of the bar)
Using an Oscilloscope is an excellent way of staying in control over phase-relations. As we try to use mostly everything stock ableton, the resampling is actually a great workaround to visualization!
@@SINEEGlobal I feel like all DAWs should come with a stock scope. So useful for seeing how the sound actually changes in real time. There are good free scopes available. Psyscope for Windows and Occularscope for Mac. Both allow for sidechain input so you can see kick and bass in different colors if desired
which oscilloscope do you recommend for Pc?

A Tutorial especially about the low End would be awesome!
Great content ! Also really appreciate the video editing, no fluff, just ableton and presenter with a natural flow between the two, without the insane amount of inserted word by word subtitles, motion graphics, memes, flashy sfx, zooms, pans, chopping, epileptic level of video segments per second… etc.
Thank you, we really appreciate it! 🥳
Great vid! The octave up on the kick is really smart.
Thanks a lot, man, appreciate it! 🤗
Awesome tutorial. Exactly what I was looking for 👍🏽
Thank you for sharing,
great wording surrounding the approach of the rolling bassline in techno: as a substitute to the rumble bass. I thought that was well spoken.
Also, as mentioned: a sidechain/ducking tutorial would be very much appreciated.
Thank you a lot! Glad that came across properly :)
Happy to follow up with the sidechain/ducking tutorial :)
Thanks for the interesting and inspiring video🖤🖤
Great method of teaching, really learn a lot from these. Keep them coming.
Great video!
Thanks a lot!
is this video will be upload later on...?
are the courses you sell on your website in English?
I have a question. So in peak time techno. Would you have either rumble bass or bass designed using synth like in the video or can you have both?
Hey! You would normally decide for one of the two, because having both would definitely overpower your lowend.
Man, editing so closely that you're measuring the size of the audiowaves where the bass notes' transients actually begin and end is just too much for me lol. Interesting stuff tho, glad to know some producers are going this far and deep on stuff but I can't spend 20 hours editing the bass notes anymore.
This may sure not be necessary, but it is something to be aware of, as it can affect your low end.
I like to tell people “why” I do things a certain way, but of course, there is no need to go into detail like this every time. :D
Best regards and appreciate it!

@@SINEEGlobal Thank you. I appreciate the information!
Great tutorial thanks !
Thank you heaps! :)
