From the very first moment that I heard this interpretation I was utterly transported to another world. It's like I never heard it before. It is sensual. I swear this conductor in his most magical moments stopped time in a way no other has ever done. I absolutely love this interpretation.
This is what it means to be a great conductor!! Absolutely astonishing interpretation: the stupid will just consider the slowlyness, the not stupid all the rest of it, which is a lot.
I heard him doing "Don Juan" (with his beloved Munich) in Hong Kong in 1989. It was a revelation. He is an acquired taste, but when you get into, he gives a very special radiance
I'm not sure it's about being stupid or not, I believe Celi would have said it's the difference between the ignorants and the others, or between those who are capable of listening and those who aren't. And he would have denied the word "interpretation". But yeah, I agree :p
