  • Ladies! Checking your tire pressure is much easier than you think it is. In this video I show you how to do it at the gas station but I also show you how to use a portable tire inflator. This device is inexpensive, easy to use, light and compact. It could also prove very handy if you are far from a gas station.
    You can do this!

At a public gas station, many times the tire filling device is broken or the hose has a cut or leaks badly. Be prepared to find an alternate source of air in case you get in this situation.

Bonjour! If you have to use gas station airpump be sure to buy gas, usually you will get free tokens for air pump. And take off all Valve stem caps and check tires 1st, to know which needs more, don't forget spare! My Wife's cousin is a Nun at Lourdes, France. Lovelyplace.

Tires should always be checked when the tire temperature is cool. Never check or fill them if the tires are hot, like after a long trip. Ambient air temp is not critical as long as the tire temperature is cool.

You should never wait until you get a TPMS (air Pressure) warning on your warning indicators before checking and filling up your tires with air. The light was not intended to be used as a pressure checking indicator. The light doesn't illuminate until the pressure drops at least 25% below the manufacturers recommended tire pressure. By this time, you are already way too low on your tire pressure and may already l have drivability issues. Use a tire pressure gauge instead depending on your Tire Pressure Monitoring System.

    That sounds great.

Those small 12 volt powered pumps are not very good. They take forever to pump up a tire, especially if the tire pressure starts at a very low value. You're better off purchasing a round (pancake) compressor which runs on house voltage but inflates the tire fairly rapidly. You can get them on sale at places like Home Depot or Amazon for around $60.

Thanks for the tip! I would have to try the round compressor. It's true that a portable inflator takes a long time to pump up a tire but one of its advantages is that you can use it anywhere (as you plug it on the cigar lighter of the car). No need to worry about access to house voltage. I feel safer having a portable inflator in my car at all times.
