"Un bel dì" (Madama Butterfly) for Piano Solo | PUCCINI | Luke Faulkner

- My mother took me to the Royal Albert Hall in London to see Madama Butterfly as a child. I've loved this opera ever since and "Un bel dì, vedremo" is one of my favourite arias of all time. I used to recreate it on my keyboard (using both piano and sustained strings buttons simultaneously 😎) and kept trying to match the nuances of my Maria Callas recording.
15 years later I consolidated these adventures into a single piano arrangement and filmed it in an Italian opera house. Nothing can quite capture the magic of the original but this is the best I can do.

I've only ever heard this as a vocal and just listened to remastered version of Maria Callas' recording. You've captured the heart of the Aria. It is every bit as beautiful and sad and heart breaking. And the venue is perfect. 👋😊 Ros

This is as close to perfection as I can imagine a music video. The delicacy and voicing in your playing is just wonderful and your rubato is so emotive truly mimicking the vocal drama. The setting is majestic, imposing and befitting the grandeur and majesty and power of the opera. The cinematic and the actual musical arrangement is masterful too. I grew up in remote countryside slightly before games consoles were a thing so just played piano all day then never stopped.
