Two Week Wilderness Camp - Wall Tent & Stove, Caring for Horses, Cowboy Bushcraft

- While on a two week long horse pack trip in the Canadian wilderness, I film a day around our comfortable camp showing some of the chores we get up to like picketing and hobbling horses, building fire for sanitizing drinking water, bucking wood to keep the walltent stove stoked, outdoor camp cooking for two, and more of our life at camp.
Thanks for watching!

Hey Nickolas, great to see a video up. Seems like there is no shortage of dead standing around that camp of yours. You could build quite a shelter out there. Do you still have your winter shelter? Hope you make some winter videos. Thanks much for sharing this!
I wish you would talk and that I was out there doing the same kind of trip
How about some video of the hunt?

This is LIFE...NOT scurrying about..driving interstates only to sit in an office 12 hours a day. LONG LIVE COWBOYS!!! First visit to your "camp" SUBSCRIBED
Thanks for subscribing!
Spending quality time with your dad is priceless and fond memories,
That's the best looking tent I have seen in a long time.. stay safe out there 🙏🏕🐕🐴🐴
I enjoy camping content quite a bit and this is definitely the channel I’ve been waiting to come across. I dig the silence, the natural sounds and the cowboy way of life. Thank you for uploading
Welcome to the channel! Lots more to come
Thank you Nicholas ☺️ What a wonderful, relaxing 20 minutes. It's good to see that Naomi & Sandy are doing well and that their papa is still happy & thriving out in the wilderness. Take care of yourself and the crew, we've got some rough times ahead. May our Glorious LORD GOD bless you abundantly in our Righteous Savior's Holy name, LORD JESUS CHRIST 🙏🏼🌿💞
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love your old school approach! Glad to see you back at it. As much as I love the backcountry pursuits of summer in the Colorado Rockies for me, nothing beats the crisp mornings and warm days of a fall camp! And I fall in love with that Marlin ever time it makes an appearance in your videos! No safe queen there, a well used tool as it was meant to be with the character and scars of several lifetimes of adventure 👍
This was definitely the way to do it, most comfortable camp I've stayed at. Ironically that rifle is only 6-7 years old, goes to show just how much I've used it I guess 🤣
Even over 70 plus that still turns me on being in woods. I never done that growing up as a kid. Have fun guys
Being raised in Wyoming, I have done a lot of this. Had a wall tent about the same size, actually. I had a wonderful mule and four good horses, took friends up during archery season and guided / wrangled during rifle season. Great memories! Thank you for posting, will look forward to your videos in the future.
Prayers for the hard work’n, Freedom love’n folks up in Canada. Stay Free, Brethren.
Thanks for sharing, this is how I would like to spend more of my days, far away from people and just enjoy the nature
Thanks for watching! It is nice out there 😁
So good to see you back at it.
Awesome video! Beautiful scenery, beautiful healthy horses, good dog, good food, good company... Love the silence too, glad you didn't add any music, this was perfect!
I sub'd!!
I could love to live that way n I would if I was younger and in better health
Great time out Nicholas. Classic camping at its finest.

This is LEGENDARY
🤠👊
More content like this pls. No music, no talk, no crap
Beautiful, educational, relaxing, and inspiring. Thank you for the wonderful video.
Just got done reading All The Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy and I had the sudden urge to do essentially exactly what you're doing in this video! So glad I stumbled upon this.
Welcome! Glad you enjoyed
I had been wondering if you gents were still at it. Excellent approach to camp life!
Beautifully shot. 21:17 & 21:36 were my favourite moments. Missed your videos! Cheers
I been considering geeting the buck 110 or 112 the last few weeks. I came across your video and now im seeing you use it.. im definitely about to pick one up now 😅
Finally somebody that knows how to run a campfire.
What do you mean?
All CZcams campers and so called off grid people, etc. spend a tremendous amount of time cutting, splitting "processing" (word I never heard until CZcams people) wood. Campfires wood is meant to be simple. Drag something out of the woods and burn. Quit all the sawing, splitting, on and on. Put it on the fire. Heat stoves...quit splitting and "processing" (there's that word again) because large chunks burn longer. At bedtime put large chunks in stove and they will still be burning in am. Small split wood burns too fast. Does that explain it?
@@michaelmonnat7765 Yeah that make sense. I only do processing like that at permanent camps where it makes sense to have split wood and kindling lying around
Great to see a new video
This is life!
good camp and cook
nice set up also
thanks for sharing
So glad for another video. Cheers!
More to come!
Such beautiful filming if not movie like! From Ontario, glad to see another Canadian also doing Bushcrafting! Cheers 🍻
Thank you!
Greetings from Germany, nice to see you again, it would be nice if there were more videos from you, including the landscape! Greetings Walter 👍🏻
This looks like paradise. Thank you for sharing.
Makes you wonder how many times that dog drink out of their water bucket without them noticing.
Many times and I didn't care 🤣

Nice video, very cinematic. This is real life!Canada is so beautiful!
Thank you!
That’s so cool dog horse and cowboys out in wild
Great camp. Nice tent setup. I have a tent like this. Thank You very much for showing us this 😊
Walking the Camino de Santiago
Nice country reminds me of the upper Blackwater...
Real close! ;)
What a beautiful tent, location and all other set up.
Glad to see you back , well done .
Looks like a great place to spend time and sharpen skills 👍
It was!
Like those log benches too ... Awsome setup
Well Nick , ya have some good looking horses and good content .. all around good stuff , 👌 🇨🇦🇨🇦
Great trip. Good to have ya back. Thx!
Glad to be back!
Ain’t said a word yet!🤙🏻🤠 jess too much talking these days without saying a thang 🤙🏻🙏🏼❤️
Hi there from Toronto canada, I'm not even 10 secs in andI already I gotta say...luv the setup:)
Fantastic and idyllic looking camp! Love those hats as well, they look so new and clean. What brands are they? I usually wear my straw Resistol for summer but I’ve got a nice Serratelli (looks like your dads) for my going to town hat and another cheaper one for winter wear. I look forward to your next upload, you never disappoint! 👍
Thanks! The hats are new! I finally decided to replace my old Smithbilt hat, it had quite literally fallen apart and I was getting sick of it by the end of this years wrangling season. The hats are both made by Justin 6x, I got mine and my dad liked it so much he got one himself 😁
Amazing
Guided in the mountains for many many years, awesome video buddy
Thank you!
Hey guys new Sub here ! great job taking care of the injured horse :) Pretty awesome camp you have set up" beautiful meadow with fresh water for you & the horses, I'm an off grid guy that loves the bush & animals :)
Welcome to the channel! Glad you liked the camp set up. It was pretty elaborate for what was realistically needed, but I figured why not for my first horse packing camp. No injured horses on this video aside from some galls on the fat one 😆
It was a pretty dreary day until I saw this video posted!!!! Made my day - your videos always take me back to a better place and time!!!! Thank you!!! Oh forgot to ask - new knife? Very nice looking!!!
Glad my video cheered you up! It is a new knife, but it's nothing special. I got it more as a joke since it was only 35$ before tax and shipping, turned out to be a beast of a knife but I'm not sure how long it'll last 🤣
Awesome to see you again
Glad to be back, again! 😆
Love the way you edit your videos, specifically the way you use text and fonts. Looks cool and gives a quick status report without injecting talking.
Glad you like it!
Found me a new channel to help relax. Working on getting into the same lifestyle soon here.
Right on, welcome to the channel 🤠
Great real cowboy camping. Great video directing style. Great relaxing video. Awesome job Nicholas.
Thanks!!
Hi loved the video, what a way to spend a couple of days.. enjoyed 👍👍
Looking at the two lanterns and wondered if you had any info or links on them? TIA 👍
Glad you enjoyed! The lanterns are old kerosene railway lanterns. The one with the wooden handle was my grandfather's
Beautiful

Спасибо за то, что ты делаешь
Awesome camp! Thanks for sharing my friend 🤠
Thanks!
YEAHH MANN! Love the fact that you're back!! Hey, I wanted to ask you could maybe do a video or a post about the stuff you have and the things you take when you go camping. I want to start doing it and I would love to know what you use!
I'm glad to be back! I'm not really sure how I'd do that since a lot of the gear I use is old and can't be bought anymore, not sure if it'd be much help, but if you have any questions about specific things, let me know!
@@wituikbws Aw that's a bummer, goes to show how amazing and skillfully you are I guess! 🤣. I just wanted to start camping because your videos inspired me a lot, make me think of a life I would love to live. Maybe you have any advice or book on how to get a few of the skills you have? Like the bushcrafting or others. Idk, I'm just happy to see a video of yours 😂
@@Andres-nz1sf Best advice I could give for the bushcrafting side is to just watch, read, and try things yourself until you get confident. For the horse side I did the same, but if I could do it over again it would've been much easier to find someone to learn from in person rather than using videos and books, especially with a green horse 🤣
shoulda had one "well" and "yup" exchanged at the end there.

Hi Arthur!

Wow, I loved that shot at 21:17. Great camera work.
Very nice
This is a fantastic video !, it felt like I was right there with you, I could almost taste the hash potatos and meat. looked delicious. I have you subscribed, so I won't miss any new videos. You do a great job with the camera work. . You got the tent up quite sturdy, no bad weather could knock it down. Is that your Dad with you? got some great quality time with him, it will live on in your memories. Thanks !!

I love your videos, became my new fav channel for bushcrafting. Where do you get your knife though? It looks awesome!

Beautiful scenery and experience. Very relaxing to watch. What type of lighter were you using? I found it to be very interesting and I would like to try it with my pipe?
Glad you enjoyed! The lighter is some old WWI trench lighter, can't remember where I got it but it works great
Good see ya amigo !!! It's been a long spot of time !!! I hope has been as kind as possible for you 🤠. I've never seen u with a daughter or son out with you, have u none to teach ur skills to ???. I have a girl & a boy but due to their mothers influence they have NO desire to hang out with me or any contact. But now they have their own family to raise and are old enough to make their own choices. I pray that is not ur case !! I think it's natural for a father to want to teach and pass on the things they believe to be important. And fun 😃 !! I don't know what kind of Summer you had up there but I hope it wasn't too dry and maybe even some good
Hunting.... Maybe snag yourself one of those elkalo's 😂 ( Buffalo sized elk😮 )😂 !!
Looks like you guys had a nice few days out.
Here's to
Hoping we'll get another video before Christmas😂😅😮😂.
Just messing with you Nicholas. But u get the point 👍🏽
Good to see you too! No kids, I'm only in my early twenties to it's not something I've even thought about. 🤣 Very sorry to hear that about your children, hope something changes in your favor sometime soon. Summer up here was pretty hot, lots of forest fires around us but nothing too close. Tried for moose around the time of filming this video but didn't see a damn thing, hardly even any fresh sign, but lots of mule and whitetail atleast. I'm going to do my best to get a video out every month, if not every two weeks. Thanks for the comment and for sticking around through my random disappearnces 🤣🤠
It is Dec 4th. So, I'm wishing to u a very merry Christmas season !!!
nice ...
Thanks 👊
I see you still have your Grandpa's railroad latern.
I do! Still use it all the time. Packed it inside the stove along with the other one on this trip
I noticed a beautiful fixed blade knife in your video, what brand is it and where can one buy it?
I know they are hard to do, perhaps a hunting video?
Could do grouse or snowshoe hare, don't have good enough luck hunting big game to try and film it 🤣
I would love to do stuff like that but right now I don't have the land or finances but I would love to do that
Beautiful country in BC, I am really envious of this trip and experience. I just had one question. How do you pack all that gear on just two horses including riders, I see no other pack animals. I see the need for at least two other horses? Just curious about that part, unless you pre-setup part of the camp. Thanks and keep up the great videos
We had 3 horses on this trip, one palamino, one bay, and one dark bay. Ideally we would've had atleast two pack horses, one for each of us to lead. I ended up doing 3 trips over the span of a few days packing in gear which worked out since the horse we were packing is green and needs miles on him and I had brought my girlfriend in and out for the weekend too. Getting all that unnecessary crap in there was probably the biggest challenge on this trip 🤣
Lovely dog. What breed is he/she?
Loved this video thank you for posting. I had a question about why you chose to hobble your horse. Wouldn’t that hinder their ability to get away from a predator (God forbid)? The cowbell is a great idea. Just curious and absolutely no hate, I know there’s mixed opinions on hobbling.
The hobbles are so the horse doesn't take off back home. With two people and the dog around, I don't really worry about it, and he has already learnt to move in them pretty good too. The other two mares can run in them if they want 🤣
This is cowboy camping! Good to see your work again, and certainly enjoyed this video with it's tremendous camera views and work put into production. Future video ideas?... Food storage/small game hunt/fish catch & cook/any wild grown herbs or vegetables to gather for cooking or teas/how-to stay warm in cold & rain vs how-to stay cool in the heat and sun exposure?... Few ideas to start with. Already subscribed and looking forward to the next one. Cheers! Pete in Arizona - KI7LIL
Glad to see another comment from you! Hope all is well. Thanks for the ideas!!

Nice setup where'd you get the cloth tripod stool I've been looking for 1
I made it 4-5 years ago, but I've seen a few online
👍😎🇨🇦🔥
i liked the robust oil lanterns is there a place to purchase those or a brand? Great video
Not that I know of, these are very old railway lanterns. Thanks for watching!
That is really cool.. Why ties the horses front legs together? ( I know nothing about horses)
Thanks for the video
It's called hobbling, slows the horses movement down while they graze so they can't take off back home, although some horses get good enough to run in them 🤣 Thanks for watching!
Generally hobble the two back legs, keeps them from going to far from camp. I think hobbling the front would make it harder to get down to the water.
@@julieduree9210 Never heard of someone hobbling the hind legs only, interesting!

Hm. Not really a video idea, but I like camp building and horse stuff best.
More to come!
I would like to know how you build your tent
We used poles cut with the axe and saw for everything. The front and back were lashed with the mantie ropes (ropes used for lashing packs togther for pack horses) and then staked down front to back, and the sides were staked down using the ropes that were already attatched to the tent walls. I would've liked to film it but we didn't have the time
friend, what camera do you shoot with?
Sony a6300, nothing special!
@@wituikbwsAhhh there ya go folks , not confidential anymore .... nice ! Thanks for that btw
HI! Can you tell me about your hat? Try as I may, I haven't been able to have a western style stand up to pack trips. Are you just buying better felt and better at reshaping than me?
This hat was actually new at the time of this video, and I bought it for the same reason 😆 My original hat wasn't standing up to pack trips and I was tired of reshaping it every time it rained. That one was a 6x Smithbilt, this one is a 6x Justin. I figured if I got a new one and did my best to maintain it's shape with the fresh felt it'd last longer, so I've been spraying the hat with stiffener and steaming it every time I am back from a long trip, especially after it gets rained on. So far it hasn't lost its shape at all
Thanks!@@wituikbws
Nice! What’s the material of the tent?
Canvas!
It would be nice if someone could tell us a little bit about how it works 😊
Feel free to ask about whatever you want!
good afternoon, please tell me what breed of horses do you have?
We aren't sure for any of them, but the palomino (Sandy) is a range horse from the local area called a "Chilcotin special", the large bay (Chub) is a draft cross of some kind, and the dark bay (Dutch) is a quarter horse cross with I have no damn clue. As you can see I have a indepth understanding of my weird little outfit 🤣
Nice! What breed dog?
Kangal and border collie mix, she is more kangal though
