I always loved the F-5. It's like a baby F-16.

The funniest thing is that technically, the F-5 would more or less be a baby F/A-18, seeing as the F-5E was developed into the YF-17, which became the F/A-18.

The F-5 is not a baby F-16, there's a whole world of difference between the two fighters; the F-16 is much larger than the F-5, it's also heavier, and faster, too, with a single engine that's way more powerful, and it can carry a bigger assortment of weapons, plus it has a much greater range, it can be refueled in flight, plus, it can perform a wider range of missions. Also, the F-16 is capable of pulling 9Gs in a turn fight. Now, the F-5 is a 3rd Gen Fighter, that was developed out of an advanced trainer design for the air force, and is a product of 1950's technology, whereas the F-16 was a clean sheet design, using the best of 1970's technology.

By the way, the name Skoshi Tiger was the USAF's name for their Combat Eval of the F-5, and it was never a nickname for the F-5, what so ever.

I finding it amazing that today you can see a MiG-28 in a airshow. Back in the day, the best you could had was a photograph taken by the RIO of a F-14 while flying inverted.
