- What you need to know before you bring a goat home to your backyard or farm. Goats can be used for dairy, meat, weed and brush control, or companionship. We also explain what a wether is, why it’s done, and why a wether goat may be the best thing for you if you want a couple goats running around.

There are many reasons why someone might choose to keep goats. On our farm they are dairy animals, but they can also be kept for meat, weed and brush control, or as little backyard companions. There’s a lot that goes into keeping goats but this should be a good introduction.
We also explain what a wether is, how that process works, and why it may be performed on a male goat. In our opinion if you plan on keeping pet goats a couple of wethers are perfect.

Wethers are so invaluable. We have a resident wether and will have meat wethers for most of the year as well. They are awesome companion animals for those who need it. Lots of people ask me about castrating so I think that's a good video for you to do!
We may do that one day then, thanks for the suggestion!
HDR content always comes with quality.
Kudos to the great content!
you all seem like good people. I wish we could be friends haha. That way I could hang out with cool people and play with the goat!
Well we can be internet friends 😄 glad to have you here!
Even a 220lb large breed goat is a lot to handle. I would suggest that unless someone is comfortable working with and handling large, strong animals, start with Nigerians for sure.
The difference between the NDs and our Kiko crosses was substantial and they were small for their breed!
We have a ravine with woods (about half an acre) as our backyard and want goats for the brush cleanup and maintenance. And as pets. And for milk. I love the milkfat quality of ND goats so that's what we will be getting if we can figure out fencing for them.
So all the reasons 😂 we really enjoy them!
Yup!
Goat always lovely
Goat as pet perfect 😍👍🏽
Do you have a hoof maintenance video?
We do not, but our friends at Sage and Stone Homestead show some of the process in this video if you want to check it out: czcams.com/video/vXsepvsdTVA/video.html
Enjoy your content watching from Pennsylvania 🙏🎚🇺🇸
Thank you!
Good video, i could have watched the video without you did show us the rubber band tool. It hurt thinking about it.
It felt like an important thing to show how that works. Appreciate you watching!
This the video of all time
Of all the videos it sure is one of them.
Thinking of getting a goat??
To run with my dog in large backyard, or to tie out in areas I need qeed eated, to keep on pasture lots. Really only want one, cause I'm getting a mule, which is part of my question,,,, can the goat be out in a lot or on pasture with a mule??
Or am I needing another type if animal that is low maintenance to eat down grass and for a mule companion??
Really couldn't tell you how a goat and a mule would do together. I've heard sometimes they do okay with donkeys, but sometimes not. I don't have any experience with mules. With the dog, I wouldn't. Goats are herd animals and probably won't bond with a dog like they would with another goat.
Is there such a thing as a goat quiet enough to be in a residential area?
We have some that are quiet almost all the time and some that are.. less so. If you're trying to sneak one past your HOA I think that'll be pretty difficult.
This video is extremely bright
HDR is underrated!
Will goats chew my kids wooden play house?
Almost certainly yes.
Where are you located
Kentucky
Pet goat..in AZ home with its own space...good or no..can they live indoors
Goats really need to be kept in pairs (at minimum). They are herd animals and it's best to keep them with goats. As far as in the house, they have no sphincter muscle, so..... at your own risk.
I think it's best to have 2 goats so they can keep each other company.
Absolutely - goats are herd animals and need at least one goat companion.
I think my apartment is too small :)
I want them as a pet and to eat the weeds
They love leafy plants!
Deal
You should eat those goats coz it's natural cycling they feed on grass and make high quality meat so make them breed and keep on male alpha and enjoy
Not everyone likes goat meat
@@ApexOceanPredator how? It isnt particularly strong. The only meat I've ever had that I didn't like was snake
bending is a horrible way, it's actually very painful and uncomfortable for the goats
What is your preferred method?
@@GWPHomestead I've always gone to the vet and just neutered them
there's a big difference between their personalities when you do it
Thank you for sharing
