I don't understand the need for the straw when you are going to use electrical tape anyway. The straw is a poor substitute for heat shrink. Also, you could have rubbed oil around the staples to get the glue to release without needlessly wasting a lot of staples.

Buy a soldering iron, heatshrink, and a glue gun. Or just a new plug end for $3. I mean, I guess this works in a pinch but your life will be way easier to just buy those things if you are ever going to do this more than a couple of times in your life.

All the things in this video you'd need to buy to repair this plug, you could have bought 2 or 3 replacement cables. :D
