    Today I am trying out some of the most viral and popular art videos and hacks on instagram reels. There is so much art content on instagram, pinterest, and youtube shorts, but today I thought it would be fun to focus on instagram. These were really fun to create and all original ideas go to the original artists! In this video I made 3D resin painting of goldfish, a canvas painting and charcoal art.

    The light for UV resin has to be able to penetrate the product from all angles to cure properly-clear molds work best for this reason. Hope that helps!

      @wintersprite Pƙed 2 lety +12

      Thanks for the tip. I recently bought UV resin to try out. I bought clear trinket molds but also bought some jewelry molds made for liquid sculpey. They worked okay for the most part since they’re small/thin, even though the molds are gray.

      @@wintersprite Adding to the original comment - and for anyone thinking about using colored UV resin - when you add colorant to your UV resin (or use pre-colored UV resin), the colorants will block some amount of the UV light (lighter colors and less colorant added will block less, darker colors and more colorant added will block more), hindering curing, so keep that in mind! You’ll likely need to cure the colored UV resin in thinner layers and/or from different sides and/or for longer.

      I’m glad you pointed this out!
      Epoxy resin would have been best with this project.
      Question, though. If you had a clear mold. Could you have epoxy on the bottom and use UV on top? Or are the two not able to work together (especially because UV resin gets so hot)

    You can't use UV resin deeper than about an eighth inch without a specialized mold, and even then I think half an inch is just about the maximum. The resin absorbs UV, so it can't penetrate the surface layer, kind of like how water absorbs red light, so below a certain depth everything looks blue.
    You need to buy some epoxy resin for the kind of crafts you want to do.

      Thanks! Yeah I do have epoxy, unfortunately I didn’t have the time to wait days between layers as I mentioned I had a flight a couple days after filming so I couldn’t finish it if I used that so I just rolled with the uv resin. Next time I’ll plan accordingly :)

    Great episode Chole! I'm so glad that you try art hacks too. I don't mean this in a mean way, but its so nice to see you make mistakes as well. (the 4 season tree). I feel like everyone is a perfectionist on these art hack videos and I'm the only messing up. It's very encouraging seeing you correct as you go and that its ok if you don't love the piece at the end. ( I feel like that's me on many projects hahah) It's all about trying and having fun with the process. By the way bought your paint brushes! I love them!! They blend paint so well and keep there shape after use. I will be buying more in the future. Thanks for always being you and sharing your creativeness with us. You truly inspire me.

      One of the things with the art hacks that makes them appear so "flawless" and "perfect," is that they cut out certain steps that actually help explain what the hell that person just did! So annoying, but I also get that it's meant to be a "short," so... still makes them feel almost clickbait-y at times.
      I agree it's good to see others make mistakes, as it's a great help to the rest of us mortals that suck at this. Lol! It shows that everyone makes mistakes. The key is learning how to fix them, cover them up, or work with them.

  • @QueenBooDiggy
    @QueenBooDiggy Pƙed 2 lety +7

    Hi Chloe!! I was thinking for the little resin fish pond, you could try mixing a 2 part epoxy resin together with the sand for the first layer. That would eliminate the bubbles (a few are okay, of course) and the sand would still be visible through the layers and would look even more realistic! You could then use UV resin over that for the rest of the layers so it’s still less time consuming.
    These were so fun to watch! Love your channel!

    The pencil hack is what I use for shadows, clouds and light shading (both charcoal and graphite).
    Cotton balls and tissues work well for clouds (bigger spread), paintbrush is better for controlled diffused soft shadows and light shading because it doesn’t leave stroke marks or lines and it blends super soft. You can also draw dark charcoal blobs on a scrap paper and use a paintbrush to get the dust from that without shaving it and getting dust on your main artwork (more controlled). Paintbrush is really good for photo realistic charcoal drawing blending if you don’t like the look of stroke marks and grain too 🙂
    If using the shaving technique you’re better using very soft lead, like a 6b - 9b graphite, or a 4b - 6b charcoal. Compressed Sticks (graphite or charcoal) are also easier and don’t break as easy.

      In a clear glass container, you’d be able to see the flat layers of the fish and the spaces between the layers. It would ruin the effect.
      So for painting on resin in this style, a solid container that you look at from one direction is better.
      With a glass container, it’s better to make a 3D fish out of colored resin or polymer clay, then paint it if you want, and put it in the container and submerge it in resin.
      That way it looks like a fish in a bowl or aquarium.

    For how the fish got in the flowerpot: birds will eat and poop out fish eggs (some survive the digestive tract) over bodies of water which is actually how fish randomly turn up in lakes not otherwise connected to other bodies of water. Medieval monks thought that the lakes spontaneously spawned the fish, but we now know its birds!

    I've used a paintbrush to blend charcoal (since I hate getting messy.) It was ok, but still wasn't enough to convert me to a charcoal lover.
    The other random charcoal hack that I tried was mixing charcoal powder with a binding agent (I used gum arabic) to turn it into something approximating watercolour paint. It was maybe a little less messy to work with, but I still didn't like it as much as real watercolours.

    I love the seasons painting!! 🌳 Brilliant!! 🍁 The smudging might work on a doodle prompt page. đŸ€” It's rough to make friends with resin, but cute idea. Too bad it doesn't work from the side in a fish bowl. 🐟 Sculpey fish in resin for that? Beta fish?

    What a wonderful idea I would love to see more of this particular type of video if you're interested in making them and I would love to see if the larger pot at some point could be finished too. I hope your collaborate goes well and look forward to seeing that video when it comes out. As always thank you for sharing your talent. Blessings.
