Another fabulously simple but lovely recipe..thank you. Thought however that the potato slices might have been boiled before adding to the dish or does the cream mixture soften then plenty enough?
No boiling required, that's the beauty, the potatoes absorb the cream. Enjoy 😀👍
Very nice - made it myself. Switched cheddar for grated cooking mozzarella. Nice tasty crust. Had to cover with foil at the end as the cheese would have burned before the potatoes were fully cooked. Took me more than 60 minutes of cooking in the oven and still some potato bits were not fully soft. Would go easy on the onions and put more salt. Overall very nice.

Why not wait til its baked part way thru then add your cheese so it doesn't burn, i've done that with some dìshes & it turns out good. Just a thought for you.

The name? No idea that was so long ago. Just standard thickened, double or heavy cream depending which country.
The onions to me were a bit off. Perhaps a bit under-cooked for my liking. I think when I make this again I will caramelize them first.
They shouldn't be under cooked, they should fall apart. Try cooking a little longer.

This is how I do it, but I don't boil the cream , I just pour it over the potatoes

What if I hate onions

Emily Walker or try leeks, they are the mildest of the mild in the onion category, lighter than green/spring onions, or you could use chives, which have no white at all, they are basically a narrow and green, very mild onion stem dice them up small 1/4 in slices and add about 1/2 a cup to the amount of potato serving size in joel's video, also if you use leeks only use the light green to the white part, the dark green needs to be trimmed off which actually runs about 1/2 the way up the leek and leeks are very large compared to a green onion, make sure you cut and quarter it lengthwise and rinse under cold water very well as they grow in a gritty,sandy soil, i think you will be pleasantly satisfied with the taste of either. Try shallots, spring onions or leek. You can just use potato.
