I knew before writing this comment that they were social but struggled to find info on what they actually DO together beyond shell related stuff like exchanging old shells and fighting over new ones. Eventually though I saw a few articles mention that they can chirp or use body language to interact! Even just looking at the stuff they do involving shells though is crazy interesting, since their shells are such an important part of their life. Some of their behaviors even parallel human behaviors when it comes to housing and real estate. Look up "hermit crab vacancy chain".

OH MY GOD SAME! I can hardly talk to my own boyfriend and only reply with gifs and emojis cuz it's hard to express myself through text or speech. So pictures and gifs do it better for me. The only person I can openly talk to is my mom. It's so sad sometimes. LOL Anxiety is through the roof when it comes to people. As someone who owns three hermit crabs. They are actually social animals, they love to live in large groups and can actually get lonely and die if they don’t have a buddy.
