- This was our very first cruise aboard Cunard's Queen Elizabeth, and this is our full review, covering everything from Embarkation to Cunard's Drinks Package and our overall thoughts, including, did we think Cunard was too posh or stuffy for us?
Cunard's reputation is one of a five star cruise line but could it possibly live up to that high reputation and still be a relaxing holiday, that was not too formal? Our Queen Elizabeth Cruise Review will answer those questions and more.
As usual with our review videos, our commentary is done in a single take to give you our honest, non-scripted opinions. And as always our videos and all content is shot by us, in 4K and no stock images are used.

Loved your video - I have no problem with it being posh - Hyacinth Bucket is my hero - however, my husband is less of a fan of posh so this was great to see that you had a wonderful time and had such great content to share on your cabin, the food and drinks, and the shipboard experience.

Hi Kelly. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. We are on Celebrity Apex this November 5th, so you will definitely see lots of Celebrity content from the first Sunday after that. We have been on Celebrity before and loved it but it was before we started the channel so don't have anything to share from it, which is a shame.

Haha. Great stuff. The Portuguese custard tarts are called Pastel de Nata.... love em! They originate from a shop called Pasteis de Belem in Belem, just outside Lisbon's centre, which started up in 1837. The originals are definitely the best in my opinion, but the runner up goes to Manteigaria and then Fábrica da Nata, both are more recently opened and are chains throughout Lisbon. You're making me hungry just talking about them!
Thanks for the tip in Belem. We are stopping in Lisbon on a cruise this November so we will be sure to visit. We just bought some Pastel De Nata at the supermarket (by coincidence) this morning. Nowhere near as good, but commute to supermarket was far quicker than trip to Lisbon this morning 🤣 Linzi and Mark

@@LowVisionUKTerrysView Terry that is incredibly kind, and in person, on a cruise sometime we will hold you to this. But we would feel wrong taking it from you directly; in the future we might end up with a Patreon or something (a LONG way in the future), and then by all means if you still felt that you wanted to help our cocktail fund we would appreciate that.
However the main reason for declining your incredibly lovely offer is that on this particular cruise, we already have the Bar Tab of $300 plus a bonus $125, so $425 for a three night cruise!!!!! So we both have to average $70 a day each. And the bar tab you can only use on drinks, so we already have our work cut out without you adding further to the beating our liver is going to take this week 🤣 Although I am sure some more expensive fizz could help the balance go down quicker. We will report back.
We will make sure to pop in and say Hi to Lucy on your behalf (and ours).

We were the same on Cunard (Mark in particular) as the thought of having to dress up every night formally or wear ties and such was bit off putting or that it might be too formal or stuffy. But as you will have seen it was far from it and we can't wait to go on QM2 to the Fjords at the back end of August this year.
Until you go on that first cruise ta really hard to convince a sceptic to try it. We were both sceptics. Really we were. And now look at us... 🤣
The thing that many love about cruising is you do it your way. If you want a full on activities packed time you can do it, if you want to eat and drink fine food and wine, you can do that and if you just want to relax and lay around a pool all day and do nothing that is there too.
If you are interested Brigitte we have a Facebook group and many of the community will tell you they had the same challange with their partners too. Until they tried it.
Finally, clothes mainly from Joe Brown's, Johanna Hope and Monsoon. But basically if there is a sale on we are checking it out 😀

I think staying with Britannia is a good idea. I have never felt the need to upgrade to Grills. My idea is spend any extra money on more exotic itineraries and Cunard do a wider range than many. If I wanted to travel wider on a budget I should book Princess.

Loved your video. If you suffer from seasickness, try QM2. As stable a ship as you'll ever get.
Thanks Shirley, and as if by amazing coincidence, our latest video that goes up tonight (full cunard ship tour) at 5pm GMT, we talk about doing wanting to try QM2. We've never massively suffered from Seasickness (only three times in all our cruising) it just got a lot of people on this cruise across th bay of biscay. It wasn't like we really needed an excuse to try QM2 but now you given us another :) Obviosuly purely for research purposes 😉

Hi there. Loved your review. We are traveling on the 29th of August on the ship and are looking forward to it. One thing I cannot seem to find however is an option anywhere on the Cunard website where you can select your Dining time and the size of table you prefer to sit at, options which were available to us when we cruised with Royal Caribean and Costa in the past. I've managed to do everything else and downloaded e-tickets etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Hi Dominic, to our knowledge there is no where to reserve table size or time before you cruise.
However in all the three main restaurants (Britannia, Princess and Queens depending where you are staying) In the evening, you can dine at any time between 6.30pm and 9.00pm and the first time you go they will ask you if you want a table for just your party or you want to be on a shared table.

@@SuiteNatured Thanks, guys. That's good to know I really wasn't sure as with Costa and RC, you are asked when you book which dining time and table size you would prefer. We've also cruised with Norwegian and their Freestyle Dining didn't really suit as we like to get to know our fellow table cruisers and on the Epic we normally ended up sitting on our own.

We are not buying the drink package , we are not big drinkers, we like good wine....do you know if we buy a bottle of wine do we have to finished all ? Or have it on 2dinners? Thanks a million !!!!
Hi Frank, thank you we are glad you enjoyed it. The Med in September on Cunard will be amazing. Should be near perfect weather, not as extreme as in August but perfect for sitting out with a nice glass of wine watching the world go by.
On your question, still water is available in lots of places free of charge. In the buffet area there are hot non speciality coffees and teas for free as well as juices and water. And on the wine, no you don't have to drink it in one go. They will store it for you and bring it to your next meal or on request or you can take back to you cabin and have a drink there if you wanted too. We'd not heard that they were on Valiant specifically, but there are quite a lot of vloggers on there, so hopefully we can catch up with a few.
We've been subscribers of Ben & David for ages (back in the Honest Cruising days), and we will absolutely say "hi" if they are on the ship as we agree they are funny, and come across really genuinely nice people.
We've not really seen many other vloggers when we've been on ships up to now, Rich & Helen from Visit With Us were on Scarlet last year (you can see them on our food video sat at the end of our bench in Test Kitchen), and Gary Bembridge was on Regal Princess at the same time, but as we hadn't even started the channel at that point (officially at least), we just kind of nodded, and said "hi" in passing. I think of anyone to approach and strike up a conversation it would be with them. I see they have posted, "2 days to go" which would coincide with your trip with Virgin (I believe). Have a great time and send more videos.

Hi, no bother at all :) and fantastic. August in the Med will definitely not be chilly :)
During the day you can absolutely wear shorts around the ship. Although you need to wear a top too when inside but out by the pool, you wear what you would at any pool.
When you are going into the buffet in the day time we saw plenty of people in shorts (again with a top and shoes). In the buffet it does need to be dry shorts though rather than swim wear. Hope this helps. Linzi and Mark

When do you find out what type of theme nights are on board?

I usually go on princess but trying queen elizabeth in may. Looks a little better than princess but i am curious.
We love Princess too Michael and there are many similarities between both lines but a few differences too. We always knew that lines such as Celebrity and Princess were very similar but we wouldn't (prior to sailing) have put Cunard as being that close. Biggest similarities for us were the food, drink and services, and biggest difference would be the bed! We love the Princess bed and no other cruise line has got close yet. Do you guys recall if there was a delivery fee for room service in addition to any gratuities that you would hand the staff member?
Hi, on Cunard they didn't charge for room service at all. Which is a very nice that it is included in the fare, very few cruise lines seem to do that, unless you are in a suite category.

From a climate change perspective, going on a cruise ship is one of the worst holidays that you can take.
We are not going to try and defend them Yvan. Cruise lines seem to their best to move forward with a much more environmentally sound fleets, and the newer Liquid Gas ships are a big step forward, but there is still a massive amount to do. Linzi & Mark
