And when the Shark you see like a nice dinner ? Not every Shark is friendly
I served in the Coast Guard back in the 70's and the 80's i had many close shark encounters off of Florida and up and down the east coast side. I'm 65 now and I've been scuba diving since 1974 and I see my share of sharks in the Gulf almost every time
In the Gulf of Mexico, which sharks do you see? Bull sharks, I have heard, are quite common. Ever had a bad experience?
Bless you brother, Jesus be with you and your loved one,s Amen Selah ❤️
@drd6893 I've seen bulls, tigers, mako, and even great whites in the gulf. They go where the water is warm and bait fish is plentiful
Thank you for your service, all men and women in the Coast Guard and Navy! ❤
God bless our Coast Guard! I'm in Portland Oregon and our coastline is no joke. We rely on the Guard, especially our fishing boats. I keep you all in my prayers 🌹⚓
I’m in Maine, same thing here!❤
Eugene Oregon right here
When I lived in the Galápagos Islands I swam with white tips and hammerheads. They were unaggressive because most times they came to the Galapagos to sleep in circles or to clean themselves. There has never been an accident.
Many apex species such as Great Whites actually hunt in the surf. Attacks often happen in less than 15 foot of water.
Hi! Thanks for the video 🙏 I had a lucky escape from an 8 ft black tip reef shark 🦈
I’m an Aussie and we went out on a Yacht to the outer reef of the Great Barrier Reef. I was more scared of Irukandji than I was of sharks tbh. They are the tiniest jellyfish 🪼 that leave you in the most horrendous pain for days and possibly can kill you. The Box Jellyfish will kill you but I didn’t want a medivac from an Irukandji 😂
The water was perfectly blue 60 metres deep and clear all the way down. I thought I’d jump in and practice my snorkelling on the boat anchor chain. As I got off the stairs I happened to turn my head right and saw the shark heading straight for me with speed from underneath the boat! I nearly turned the water brown! 😂 I quickly turned back to the stairs yelling SHARK and others on the boat hoisted me out. The shark swam past the stairs looking for me I think? I honestly didn’t think reef sharks were much to worry about back then. I know better now.
That’s my shark story. No bite even. I’m so glad I turned my head and looked because bloody goggles do obscure your side vision. 😂😢
Love the Coast Guard and love sharks. The video is amazing. Thank you to all our military personnel past and present. I appreciate it.
spent a lot of free dive spear fishing time in the Bahamas. many encounters with sharks, most benign, but once in maguana (last island heading s to grand camans) 4 of us were spear fishing in about 30 feet of water. i was returning with a grouper to the dinghy in 3.5' of water when i saw about an 8'+ bull circling fast and headed at me. i stretched myself out length wise, spear in front. it literally flashed past me close enough to push me sideways. the other 3 divers swam toward me splashing, pulling his attention away from me. yes, there was blood in the water. most encounters if the shark were threatning, you could see their agitation. and don't bother thinking you can shoot or stab or outswim. remain calm, protective, ease to safety.
Total respect for these men and women who work so hard to keep everyone safe
Our waters? I’m pretty sure the sharks were here first.
First off I enjoyed the video. We always had shark watches while we had swim call just for that reason. One thing your video did not mention about one of the U.S. Coast Guard's duties is Aids to Navigation. It's oftentimes overlooked because it's not a "pretty" part of the Coast Guard but it's an important part of the Coast Guard.
Thank you for your valuable comment!
Our 5th branch of the military!!! They are also vital to our country!!! Kudos
As a scuba diver, I have encountered sharks every time I have gone diving. The presence of sharks is typically an indication of healthy sea life. Leave them alone and they will leave you alone.
I thought your post was going to end with, "muhaha....haha... MUHAHAHAHA!"
So bizarre. I just got my OW cert last year so i could see sharks in their own environment. . The divers I have talked to rarely see them. It was sad to me.
Just don’t hang around the surface looking like prey, also keep eye contact, they like sneaking up on their meals
Great comment. Sharks are necessary for healthy oceans. They are critical to our ecosystems. I agree leave them alone.
🦈 are ambush predators, their behavior is unpredictable
You guys have the best means of diverting the question have coast guard rescue swimers been attacked while under emergency or while conducting exercise manouvers.
That unicorn float out there with them-😂😂
Yes while I was in the Coast Guard out in the North Atlantic 80 mi off Nantucket 22 ft great white
The coastguard is admirable . They deserve a more professional program ‼️ Perhaps it is just that voice !
We were at crabbing at Yaquina Bay in Oregon in the 90s and a male and female Orcas breached only about 500 yards from our puny 20 foot boat!
As a teenager, surfing with sharks was pretty normal because it pays to know your sharks and know the "rules". We never got out of the water unless there was a tiger shark with us. (Know your shapes) The cardinal rule was "no matter how small a cut to the body was, stay out of the water. On a different tangent, jellyfish were a bigger concern. Most of them were Man-o-war with the occasional box jellyfish.
What about a woman who is surfing and has her cycle? I always worry about that with my daughter who is a surfer
@@jessicapizarro681 Interesting question. Any profesionals to answer this please.
@@jessicapizarro681blood 🩸 is blood 🩸…Best to have her avoid shark habitats during that time. If you google said topic you will find mixed answers, with the majority of women saying they “feel great” in the water during menstruation, and notice no difference in the behavior of sharks… However a woman’s “feelings” are just that, feelings… not facts… As I said before, blood 🩸 is blood 🩸, and different women have different amounts of bleeding during said time… While the chances of shark attacks are statistically very low, sharks have an incredible sense of smell and can sense a single drop of blood 🩸 in the water from miles away… Blood in the water makes sharks act more aggressive, which could pose an increased risk to not only her, but anyone in the water around her… There was a case where a mother helplessly watched her 21 y/o daughter get attacked in the Bahamas by a tigershark while swimming during her cycle… She unfortunately didn’t make it, and her mother nearly also didn’t make it… Why risk it and just plan accordingly??? Imagine someone getting bitten, or even worse, killed just because she couldn’t wait a few days… Men and women are biologically different, and certainly not “equal.” Just because us men are biologically superior in every way, including being able to swim/surf/scuba dive 24/7 365 days a year without attracting apex predators of the sea, you women have no right to essentially become human chumming machines, endangering other swimmers, just because you decided to be selfish and unsafe, and not wait until your menstruation 🩸 has ceased… 🌊🩸 🦈🩸 🏄🏻♀️🏊🏻♀️ 🩸🦈🩸🌊
I am not a surfer, but I would think it would not be a good idea.
It ain't the sharks coming to close, pretty sure they're in their natural habitat and are behaving precisely the way sharks do. 🤔
When you’re in the middle of the ocean, splashing about, it’s going to attract curiosity and sharks. They are attracted to splashing
We just had our boat anchored in the day and we’re swimming and a shark about 3-4 feet came by and looked like he was feeding , didn’t bother us any but we all quickly jumped out out of the water and back onto the boat.
I had encountered sharks during my night and day time spearfishing.
I can say most definitely no I will never meet a shark because my ass don't go in that water
My encounters have been with barracudas rather than sharks. I have had a fin ripped off my foot in a tidal pool and been struck in my mask at a beach.
Sounds like we need the Coast Guard on our Southern Border, Anyone Else Agree?
They are there and have been there for awhile. People and sharks are not the same, but that should go without saying.
Obviously ….they are already there. Where have you been?
6:26 that looks suspiciously like an aircraft carrier which is slightly bigger than any USCG cutter or ship. USCG usually comes in orange/red and white.
where there's tuna, there's sharks
Probably in any huge body of water 💦 lol even without Tuna 🍣 lol. You couldn’t pay me to go out in the ocean or sea even if I could swim.
That’s fishermen boats and sailors on (SL) lol
During training in the Corp I was a 2512 Comm back in the day its not around anymore I feared Crocs snakes and Bugs and we also trained in Minnesota camp Ripley for cold weather and that was Tough .
A truly un-sung branch of our military I served in the Army for 21 years and the US Coast Guard has my respect. God bless the US Coast Guard. Sorry no shark encounters, I was a Field Artillerymen and grow up in the midwest.
Thank you for your service 💙
Thank you it was truly a honor.
I live in Florida and when in College, an English Professor gave us an assignment to write on any subject we wanted to. Stupid me, instead of writing about Skydiving or Mountain Climbing, I wrote about Shark Attacks. I used 6 books to reference and got an A-. However, no way l will swim in the ocean. A swimming pool is for me. All that data was just too much. 😳
Very impressive. The coast guard is a "can do" organization. ❤
I remember spacing out and letting a 16 + foot Tiger shark 🦈 get with 1 foot of my feet, it was terrifying, so I changed the channel 😂😊
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣👍🏼💙
I surf in Australia and have for 30 years now. From the frigid waters of South Australia to Western Australia, and now where I reside on the east coast of Northern rivers N.S.W. Australia. I have encountered sharks in the water at least a dozen times in my surfing life and seen them with the naked eye from the shore or standing on a reef another dozen times. Especially between the months of September to November. I've only ever felt like I was being viewed as prey twice. Most times they just seemed inquisitive or simply going about their business.
It's possible that the low frequency vibrations given off by hovering helicopters may attract a shark which is swimming nearby.
I saw that in the movie jaws where due to the vibrations Bruce the shark grabbed the helicopter & sank it.
NO SHARKS..BUT CROCS ,YES
When I have encountered the odd shark when diving I usually find the brown cloud released by me scares them off !!! 🤣🤣
Where do you come from??? Just so that I never end up in the same part of the ocean with you 😂💙
They are not aggressive, let you know there not going anywhere. They give you a loose cover while diving. How ever you know thing could change.
I read your incoherent muttering. But, what are you talking about???
@@firstlast1047your reply to @joahetchells326 was a tad rude & really uncalled for. Maybe English isn’t their first language but they’re making an effort to try & join in. Either that or they’re stoned or drunk 🤷🏼♀️😂
@@5Heth You're silly. My informative reply was too much for you?
Balistics laws have been proven that shooting into water is only effective up to 3ft under water (from a .22 of the most effective depth). The larger the calibre, the more friction and stop shorter than 3ft.
While surfing I have had several encounters from watching them swim by to seeing them attack fish and seals and including pulling a young Gremmie who was bitten by a shark in Southern California. I was surfing on the south side of the Huntington Beach Pier one night in the mid 70s when my girlfriend yelled down that a fisherman had just caught a 5 foot shark on the north side of the pier. She was asking me to get out of the water even though there were several of us surfing that night. I asked if the fisherman had kept the shark and she replied he had, at which I said “you are closer to it than I am” and I continued to catch a couple more waves before I finally went in.
Would you do that now!?
I'll tell you one thing no matter how much protection from the coast guard's there I still wouldn't have went for a swim that shark was freaking close to the people even though they were protected somewhat🤦🏻♀️
The footage that was shown of sharks being shot at was not the coast guard that was the navy
I lived in a beautiful place called Hervey Bay for most of my life. I would swim a lot in the ocean with my kids & we often went over to Fraser Island & played in the ocean there. The only time I ever saw sharks were when someone caught a thrasher shark from the pier, someone caught a large Bull shark 20km up the river near the abattoir & when standing on top of Indian Head on Fraser Island looking down & seeing about twenty sharks swimming around the bottom of the cliff. We do get Tiger sharks in Hervey Bay but in 5 years of working on the trawlers peeling sea scallops I never once saw a shark. Saw plenty of loggerhead turtles mating but never saw a shark.
It isn’t recommended that you go swimming or surfing on the Eastern side of Frazer Island though cos the sharks in the surf will eat you. Sadly A man got eaten there a couple of years ago but I think he was spear fishing.
iv never known of sharks jumping swirling like dolphins....that was interesting cool 🦈💦
The min you mentioned maritime law you lost me lol
Tell that to the over 400 seaman that did not make it onto shore from the wreck of the HMS Birkenhead at Danger Point. South Africa.
I have run into several sharks in South Florida and the Keys since I arrived here in the Navy in Jan 67 - I was not spear fishing so they just stayed sleeping or swam by ignoring me as I did them - now Cudas is a different story - I am a underwater detectorist and the detector sound attracts them - you will hear there clicking sound and find them just staying still watching you - if you start digging to recover something they will come in at full speed to see what's in the hole to eat, you just push them away - they have never attempted to bite me - except for one time in 68 - I was at Bahia Honda before it was a State Park and still had only the old bridge - I was diving looking for treasure by Eyesite, no underwater detectors yet and the person I was diving with had a spear gun - there was this huge Cuda looking at me and he was behind it to left and point the gun at it and did not hear me scream NO - the spear bounce off its side as I pulled my knife - it hit my knife and was stunned - I had my back to the shore and started kicking as hard as I could - I think I got on a plane until I ran had aground - my knife and snorkel are still there and I never dove with him again - By the way that was my first encounter with a Cuda and I painted everything shiny black after that - I was 17 1/2 when I reported aboard my first Sub and still love being under water in my late 70'S
In fresh water we call those little devils Pickerel” lol They are onto anything shiny and fast , you never see one bigger than 24” and that is exceeding rare and they are not dangerous to humans but other critters in their habitat they Are “Cudas” !
The tour guide, at the outer reef in the Whitsundays Australia, told me that Barracudas can be more deadly than the sharks.
the swim call interaction was USN not USCG.
I DID MULTIPLE TIMES ENCOUNTERED SHARKS WHILE SPEAR FISHING OR SAILING...
SGT.PENTRITE
Deadly
3:45 Growing up in Hawaii, encounters with Mano were commonplace. Getting frantic only attracts them, be peaceful and you can swim side by side. Except hammerheads, they, and barracuda are the curmudgeon of the sea.
Shooting sharks will create blood, which will attract other sharks
What on earth are they doing swimming in the middle of the pacific ocean when they don't have to?????? So brave. I won't go in anywhere over my knees.🤣😂
If I knew he didn't want to kill it and I was in the water: I would be PISSED.
Coast guards do the best they can unknown species under the deep blue ocean❤😂😮
Cage dive in Hawaii!
Boy there’s a Different been Report and Complaint. Things only matters when it happens but not Observed. Record Attack rather than Awareness. 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️☑️☑️💯💯
Love your videos 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸💙

Marry Xmas and Happy Holidays ❤
How many sharks were killed why you were swimming in there Water 9:38
Skip the first 6 mins 30 seconds. You're welcome 😊
Not all sharks attack from the surface. They can swim straight up and attack you. Bullets no matter what caliber it is only go about seven feet into the water and stop. That blows your theory up about using a gun for shark protection.
What borders
Blessings in an abundance of the faith. I salute you. 😘🙏🛟⚓️ Grace and peace be unto you and to this place. Thank you. God bless you. 😊Will you believe and receive Jesus Christ as your LORD and personal saviour??? I do. 😊

God bless the Coast Guard. I wouldn't get in anything smaller than a carrier. Sharks are sharks. We are tasty to them.
It’s the sharks you don’t see that bite your a55.
Makes me laugh when vids say unprovoked 🙄 it’s their swimming pool not ours, we taken over so much land effecting wild life, do we actually think the seas and oceans are ours?! Humans assume everything on the planet is their domain 😤
I’m glad the shark survived because ppl wanted a swim 😮
Coastguards save people that are in the sharks home 🙄 and we allow sharks to live 🤔
I think it’s more like the sharks allow us humans to live most of the time.
😮
Why they shooting them your in their territory leave them alone 😢😢
The coast garud prome mission is drug interdiction.
I've been a scuba-dive a wildlife photographer for 60 years and and unless you do something stupid the chances of seeing a shark is not that great. If you put a lot of blood in the water and all that sort of thing yeah you'll probably see a few sharks. The most dangerous thing is we're going to have a cashless society and a Sunday law and that will wipe out most things and the younger generation will never cope
When humans are threatened and when in drought take it out. Sharks are not equivalent to humans.
Other mission:
Bottom oceanic toxin removal.
💙💙💙💙
Any shark encounters? Hell no I’m from KS. no sharks around here. Stupid people living near the ocean. Let a ‘lone getting in the water. I mean what did you think can happen. Nah✌🏻I’m good y’all.

What I can’t understand is how scientists speak on behalf of animals that they’re studying? As HUMANS WE!!!! , Have Cultural, Racial , Political, Ethnically situations that WE!! can’t understand but because of HUMANS being more advocates FOR REASONS that are based on career rather than….. those reasons?? In other words. RACE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN REASON!!. Any activist would save their child before the animal that they trying to protect.
Any decent human being would save a child before an animal
Sharks are not apex predators, dummy, Orcas hunt them regularly. An apex predator is not hunted by another species- they are at the apex.
I was intrigued from the picture, but 5 into this video and it’s just you talking, talking talking talking talking I apologize for my disrespect, but there’s millions of human beings in this world in this country alone with everything that’s going on who wants to sit there and listen to this I want to see the video get to the point.. best of luck and my apologies and yes, I made a screwed up remark and then apologize because I don’t mean to be a jerk but I’m not looking to waste my time just listening to somebody talk talk talk talk talk and then when I finally get to see what I want it only last 10 seconds or less
WOW it probably took you longer to type all that crap than it would’ve if you’d just fast forwarded the video to the part that you wanted to see. 99.9% of people on here were good just watching the video without being disrespectful but there’s always .1% who finds the tiniest little thing to be annoying. I feel you’re the .1%
This has to be one of worst videos of tiering your dog down .not being able to enjoy the FUN! That comes with owning a beautiful little pup u may need to think this one thoroughly it seems, sorry to rain on your parade
Yanks and Guns, tossers
"Stop illegal immigration..." 🤣😂🤣😂😐Riiiight...
The coast guard needs to go to the southern border...there's a few illegals coming through there..😳
A rather puerile and simplistic dialogue ! Not clearly informative nor succinct
So you think that as long as people leave the sharks alone they will leave us alone. 😂😂ha ha ha ha ! You couldn't be more wrong! Tell that to all the people who have been attacked by sharks when they weren't doing anything to the sharks. Watch the videos on CZcams called: SHARKS HAPPEN. No crap, no dramatics, no long stories about each victim. Just the true facts about each attack, what kind of shark, victim name and where and when the attacked happened and what it did to the victims. It's now the best shark videos on CZcams!!
Propaganda video! “Protecting wildlife” Definitely not! 😂
This is a ridiculous video that is alarmist and irresponsible. Sharks are part of the sea. If you value the environment or nature, you appreciate sharks. As a diver, it is a privilege to see a shark, although they are usually at depth and shy away. Sure there is the occasion predators as there are in many species. Unless you have a bloody fish on your belt or you're threatening their young, shark attacks are very rare. I am a surfer, diver and swimmer and your video perpetuates ignorance for clicks. Get real.
