For clarification on Sasha's petal reveal, I was saying that in person, you couldn't necessarily see the petals as you are paying attention to two queens dancing and petals are small depending on where you are seated in the theatre as nobody really saw the petal reveal in the theatre. After the lipsync, they asked the audience to cheer really loudly for Sasha and then filmed their reactions because not everyone saw. Once I saw it on tv, I understood her vision and totally agreed with her win. Just was stating what happened in real time.

I agree. I was in the audience for Butterflygate and we couldn’t see what was happening. We could understand there was a titty cannon malfunction of some sort but at first I thought she was blowing glitter out of her bracelets. It wasn’t until some of the butterflies eventually started to perk up and fly around the theater that we understood they were stunned butterflies.
very interesting because youre not the only one that said this...alot of ppl thought shea was going to win that lipsync, so is the win given on what was read on camera and what "fans" want or in real life where drag queens perform and you feel them infront of you ? this show loves to rob wins from queens started from ginger to shea, shangela, manila, katya, gigi, brooke lyn and asia(not one person can tell me producers didnt know that the butterflies wouldnt work.)
now that you've brought this to light, it makes so much sense. like of course Aja would react the way they did when they was in 3rd row from stage whilst I don't count with the rest of the theatre being able to see the little glove-reveals and probably _barely_ saw the wig reveal. brown cow stunning up-close but you're missing out on the fun if you didn't bring binoculars.
It’s still kind of crazy to me that if Peppermint had performed that top 2 lip sync on any other season, she would have won. Sasha really was just unstoppable during that finale
IKR, Sasha's finale remains iconic and was such a chamechanger for the whole franchise and Drag in general but Peppermint would have win in fornt of any other contestant of a different season.
The thing is in the top two lipsynch the track record matters. Yes, Sasha did pretty good but even if she didn't she still would've won.

The fact that the season 10, 11 and 13 girls knew of the lipsync tournament, had time to prepare and still didn't present lipsyncs as strong as the season 9 girls tells a lot about how talented the season 9 cast was.
(Didn't include the season 12 cast in here because they had to deal with the pandemic zoom finale and turned it out despite all odds.)
To be fair to Season 13, I'm not sure they totally knew about it either as they were also filming during the pandemic.

I feel like the season 13 girls were very prepared. It was just really difficult to do all of that in an empty theatre and still capture the energy. Objectively they did the best they could, at least Symone and Kandy did.

The reason Sasha won is because of the surprise factor.
The fact that she never showed up in the bottom made it impossible for people to know she was a lip sync assassin and that made everyone gag on the right time she needed it.

Season 9 really set the standard really high. And no other season that followed lived up to that. The reunion, the strongest and deserved top 4, the finale, the lypsinc smackdowns. My fave season for a reason! 💖✨
Season 12 actually served too. Such a powerful cast. They were able to show the interaction Pep talked about that season 9 wasn’t able to show because of the crammed schedule. Plus rona happened and the season 12 was not able to do red carpets and stuff, making them more closer.
I really want to go back to 2017 when season 9 was still airing and the bar reactions seemed so surreal! 😭

Multiple endings filmed, queens having to learn several different songs, different camera angles used...this is hardly t is it- most people know this stuff happens on television.
I’m saying this with no malice but peppermint and Sasha ruined the lip syncs for the crown because they single handily had some of if not the best lip syncs in the entire show and they kinda make all the other lip sync for the crowns look like Charlie numbers
I agree, but for a different reason -- if you look at the lipsyncs for the crown that followed, especially season 10, you could just tell that queens had taken the note from Sasha and Peppermint and just beaten the reveal to death. There was no element of surprise left, which was the reason Sasha and Peppermint's lipsyncs were so freakin' good.
@@Angelica_Rodriguez39 I agree with you totally especially know what makes reveals so good is the elements of surprise no one expected pepper and Sasha and just in general at the time didn’t expect anyone to reveal but they both did it in a way that was so unexpected and had never been done before and than you take a look at season 10 everyone in that too 4 except kameron had enormous bulky outfits that where clearly meant for reveals but with kameron she was wearing a robe so that reveal would have been easily expected to like everything after just does have the same charm the closest we got to the charm of the reveal was with season 13 kandy muse with her lip sync with rosè she had a tight leotard on and she revealed to another leotard which is really unexpected because usually most cases you’ll be revealing into a leotard but no a leotard into a leotard

And it was good to hear that they edited his reaction in the audience to Sasha vs Pep. Very telling.
Peppermint is such a classy woman. I loved their season and the talent on there. I definitely feel like they set the bar for the lip syncs for the crown. I’ll never get over Peppermint’s reveal and the moment she clapped her hands, I was immensely gagging!
For being the first season doing the lipsynch tournament and being the least prepared to do it, I enjoyed this season's finale the most: Season 10 and 11 were just RuPaul's Reveal Race and wasn't that exciting while Season 12 had the videoconference obstacle - though the personalised lipsynchs were great - and Season 13... was there.

You're right. None of the recent lip sync for the crown finale has topped season 9. I guess it's cause now every queen comes into the finale thinking a reveal will help them win but their reveals don't even correlate with the song.

It’s really cool hearing this because ultimately I think what won the lip sync from me was peppermint leaving all of the suspenseful moments of her lip sync towards the end! Trinity kind of came out guns blazing at the beginning which was cool but was kind of upstaged by peppermint towards the end
The moment peppermint went to the final chorus of Stronger it became clear that she had won that lipsync. The whole skirt/wig reveal and then the clap… girl, that was intense!

I looooove peppermint! she’s extremely sweet in person as well. I was fortunate enough to meet her at dragcon in NYC right after season 9 wrapped and she was so warm and welcoming. Her club kid look is still one of my all time fave runways.

I've known Peppermint since college (not friends just went to the same college and lived in the same building for a few years). She is one of the most real, kind, and down-to-earth people I have ever met.
No season Can beat season 9 finale to this date , period.

@@halanthernandez7471 people hated a lot of the challenges, especially at the time it was airing. the lipsyncs throughout the season were also very weak (and completely saved by the lipsync for your crown being implemented) season 10 and onwards have had worse challenges since then though, so maybe not as bad now.

Interesting that they filmed a final 3/final 4. Makes sense with the old system Pep had the least wins so likely would have been the one to not move forward though I feel like she trounced Trinity in the final 4 challenge. Watching it though I just knew that there was going to be a final 4. I could feel that none of them were going home.
I felt the same way, but honestly, Trinity's outfit, her whole look on the runway on that final challenge just blew everyone else out the water.

My goodness where was her creativity for that final runway? Shea's wasn't excellence or best drag, Trinity I forgot. Peppermint was the only one who had a grand look and I can see people not liking it for the simplicity.

But even though this was probably my least favorite season as far as how the final 4 all went down Pep is still one of my favorites. I love whenever she and Bob get together.
Since season 7 they film all girls being eliminated and the top 4 moving to the finale. Kennedy and Chi Chi only learned about their eliminations when the episodes aired.

I don't believe this dude about Sasha's reveal not being a big deal. I'm that kind of fan of Drag Race who knows all spoilers months before the season even airs on TV and the spoilers for S9 finale were pretty clear that the audience went NUTS on Sasha's petals reveal.

Her story about finding out along with the rest of us she'd be in the finale doesn't add up. The finales are filmed in the week that the last regular episode airs on tv (so no one would be able to spoil the top 4). Then of course 2 weeks later (after the reunion which is also shot on the day of the finale) the finale airs. So her finding out during the airing of the last regular episode is really not possible. She wouldn't have had ANY time to prepare.
She said that they told her to prepare for it in case it happened, and since they filmed two endings on the last "competitive episode", she would have probably already had in mind to prepare for the possibility of being top 4.
Now this is what I am thinking, but I guess she had the finale runway and also commissioned an extra outfit in case she went into the top 4. Also, the first lip-sync outfit wasn't that complicated, so I'm guessing that was the outfit Peppermint commissioned to be made since it looks like it would not have taken that much time to make (compared to a gown or her final lip-sync outfit)

whenever I see the cut scenes from the show I always wonder why the hell they cut it, it’s always so much funnier than what’s actually aired. I feel like especially now the production only care about drama and the runways which obviously is fun but too much is rigged. (Also is it just me that feel like the runways don’t count as much as it did before, like if you did mediocre whit a good runway you could still win or at least be safe)

So basically Pep is the first Kandy Muse - eliminated but came back and ended Top 2. Or maybe there were untold back stage stories of other queens from previous seasons. I am interested to hear other reveal stories.
Overall season 13 finale is very similar to season 9 top 4 placements. The queen with the « worst » track record were the top 2. Even tho sasha had no bottoms and symone has 4 win, they were seen has 3th track record is their respective season (above: shea and trinity / rose gottmik). And yeah we can really see the same story arc between kandy and peppermint

I wish people would stop advertising drag race on netflix for surf shark. I signed up to it and there's currently no drag race available on US netflix or any other I tried (i'm in the UK so I've watched everything on there already). I want to watch allstars and untucked but there are only a couple of seasons I can find.
I regret to say the moments i remember from that whole season are primarily from untucked...specifically ninas self delusion, the pocahontas lewk, shea crushing it as Blac China and then the roses....that's it 🙊
