- It is amazing to see how far Revival Cycles has come since their first visit to Jay's garage in 2011, and now they've created a sculptural homage to land-speed motorcycles with the BMW R18 boxer engine.

22:27 … Jay’s quote of the week….
“ it’s like sitting on a maxi-pad “
Only Jay ! 🍻
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@marcryvon My wife seems to be using that excuse more often. Hmmmmm.
How does he know ?
@@LawrenceRhodes 🤣🤣🤣
I'm dying!
Finally a motor head, that is knowledgeable, talented, and can keep up with Jay!!
Yeah and the lazy eye is just a perk
@@MrThatnativeguy that ain't no lazy eye my friend. That's a fake plastic eye. Retina cancer will do it every time. But in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king....sorta. 🤣
@@grossrationalization no wonder Jay chose not to ride it, a one eyed mans welding job probably wouldn’t be up to snuff
@@MrThatnativeguy LOLZ.....funny thing. Jay actually did wanna ride it....I thought better of it simply because I knew it was a bit challenge and if he happened to crash I really didn't wanna be known as "the guy who actually DID kill Jay Leno". and.....to be fair, I didn't do the welding, our welder "Ty" did all the titanium welding. 😐
@@grossrationalization I met a man once who had a glass eye , the man worked at a graveyard , interesting individual indeed
I love the fact that we got to see Jay not want to ride something. Totally different experience. Wonderful exercise in design
Little bird told me he actually did want to ride it but they wouldn't let him.
@@epicmotorcyclechannel307 I am 99.999% sure you're right. I don't have confirmation, but no doubt they were not going to let _anyone_ ride it. In fact I'm sure they didn't want to ride it themselves, but they had to do it for this show.
Love the banter between the two of you - and the humor. Good episode, thanks, Jay.
Agreed! Great episode!
Great. Can't decide whether I like the engineering or the art of it more. Also, this guy might be the most genuine guest Jay has ever had on the show.
Def a piece of art
His lazy eye sort of freaked me out but yeah he’s a well spoken guy
This guy honestly should be his co-host.
Thank you!
@@Ritalie thank you!
That was absolutely fantastic! When I first saw that sitting in Jay Leno‘s garage I said to myself that frame is never going to support the weight of that motorcycle. It’s just going to collapse onto itself. It reminded me when I first saw pictures of the Golden Gate bridge. A suspension bridge that I thought will never support the weight of the cars going across. It will just collapse and fall into the ocean. Of course it didn’t because if it’s brilliant design.Just like the brilliant design of this motorcycle. Thanks for bringing it into your garage so we could have a look at it.
Triangles are strong.
@@toomanyhobbies2011 Buckminster Fuller agrees.
The only time I've seen Jay turn down an offer to ride a motorcycle. : )
Yea, the thing is not build to be ridden, more like stand in the living room or gallery.
I’m sure he would’ve if he’d been allowed to, I think BMW doesn’t want it ridden from the way they talked. He’s ridden and driven way crazier stuff.
I didn’t even notice the missing gas tank! Beautiful!
I didn't see it but I just figured it must be inside the shell around the engine... oops!
I am not a fan of the looks of it but I can appreciate the work. However, it looks like it is one of the most uncomfortable bikes to ride ever.
Yeah, it's not exactly a "daily driver" kind of bike. But it looks about as rideable as the average drag bike, or salt flats, landspeed bike.
Uncomfortable or not, at least you COULD ride it; it's not like those show-bikes, where it doesn't even have pistons, and engine internals.
I rode a reverse throttle mini-bike once, and almost killed myself.
He knows.
Prostate crusher
It's creative but not functional
If the riding position was a flavour of beer it would be a milky white ipa and would be drunk by a person with a man bun and braided beard.
This was one of my favorite guests and episodes you've done. Love this show. Thanks Jay!
A great episode!
When Jay Leno was still doing the Tonight Show, I was a young teenager. I know Mr. Leno better from Jay Leno's Garage than the Tonight Show. Now, I look forward to a new episode every week as part of my regular routine. As a computer specialist, it's been nice to learn so much about cars & motorcycles. Thanks Mr. Leno!!
Me too.
this is an artefact: i could stare at this thing for hours! thank you for the video!!
A piece of art, impractical as it is....Imagine driving this in the rain....
it would only be for a few minutes before you have to pull over to re-fuel
You wouldn't have to worry about running out of gas, running slicks in the rain you'd be on the ground the first turn or stop, maybe even the first gear shift.
Prior to the dark days of Covid, Revival would hold a monthly open house at their shop (with FREE breakfast tacos and coffee!). One of the last times I went in (either the end of 2019 or beginning of 2020), they had the Bird Cage on the dyno and were tuning on it. It is one of the loudest bikes I've ever heard. It's a beastly thing! I made a dumb comment something like "look, it actually does run." That was met with a bit of eye rolling, but I did thank them for the coffee and taco!
Revival is such an amazing place for a gear head to wander around. They are great people and do such incredible work. So glad they are doing what they are and were so generous to open their shop for flunkies like me to come in and get up close to so many amazing things.
FYI they did start doing it again....I was at the shop at the end on July.
I look forward to Jay's videos so much! I love when he has unique vehicles on the show. Last weeks electric Mercedes was disappointing, but at least it was fresh content.
Electric cars are dispointing...there is a lot of raw materials that go into making the battery's. With the push to stop coal fired power plants, an aging Electric grid....people want an quick and easy fix. I don't see this being as neat, as one is lead to believe.
Im glad I wasn’t the only one with mixed feelings about last weeks show.
I think it wasn´t so much the content that was disapointing rather than the Object. This Car is boring and overloading it with all these funktions onley makes it daunting.
This bike design highlights the BMW engine beautifully. Combines all the core values extremely well. Kinda has a Wright brothers aviation look too. Very creative and unique. Brilliant!
That is an amazing bike. Alan, your guys helped me tremendously (understated) to build my bike (parts, questions, troubleshooting, etc). I’m so glad that non-motorcycle people can see this work of art. Those posts you did with BMW Motorrad was so friggin cool, I binged that whole series and im hoping y’all do another colab here soon. I just wanted to say thank you and I know exactly where to go for my next build. Way cool that jay did an episode also, he’s the end all be all of motor junkies!
Jay Leno Garage should do a regular series where Jay and Tim Allen pick sport cars and drag them against each other and race around a track and then switch cars and do it again and then tell everyone which car they like better. Like Corvette vs Mustang or Camaro vs Challenger, etc. That would be thd greatest videos ever!
One of Jay's best guests ever - knowledgeable, great sense of humor, and amazingly comfortable on camera. Kudos once again to Jay Leno for an excellent program.
I saw this bike in person two years ago at Sturgis in the BMW tent at the Buffalo Chip. It's incredible in person. So cool to see it on the Garage.
Guys looking at a curved piece of plastic that is the "seat":
Builder - "Its really comfortable...."
Later....
Jay - "Yea...I'm not going to ride it."
LOL!
LOL
Jay isn't stupid and he has bank ; )
Yeah, that thing looks real comfrotable...in an unridable kinda way!
the left hand handgrip is an old innertube. love that. I used to do that on racing bicycles I built.
Cool!
I thought I would have to spend hours sitting and looking from all directions at this to really SEE it. Quite interesting to say the least! Thanks for sharing!
I am "restomodding" my 1976 Moto Guzzi 1000 i convert and i have saved Revival Cycles You Tube videos on motorcycle electrics and wiring. I am finding them most invaluable as an aid to understanding fundamental concepts and to get the charging system hopefully performing as well if not better than new. I'm close to Jay's age and like Jay i appreciate the rolling art aspect of vintage bikes and the fact that it has expanded well beyond just trying to make your chopper build stand out from the rest. Most of all this guest came across as low key and not leading off with what i call the "hipster than thou" vibe so prevalent with this genre of bike builds. Makes me glad he came solo to do the episode with Jay rather than with a sidekick from their shop.
Wonderful Jay... Thanks for bringing Alan & the bird-cage BMW... Enjoyed the technical details & the ride...
Beautiful and amazing sound.
The engineering is the artwork
It’s definitely not practical, but very interesting to look at!! Also, this guy is so much more interesting to listen to vs the last video!
I just did a bunch of videos on my newly acquired BMW R NineT and I love it!!
Thanks captain obvious
more nice = it is practical for something you can't imagine.......
No front brakes - didn't even realize until it was pointed out. Damn. You'd have to go back in time to start braking before any corner tighter than 6 degrees.
And WHERE are you supposed to put groceries???
hahahah
German engineering
No front brakes is pretty standard for choppers, and custom bikes.
Same with no mirrors, no indicators, probably no displays except a speedo, and maybe tach (or maybe neither). It was never meant to be a daily driver.
Looks like it was mostly modelled after 60s/70s drag bikes (or maybe landspeed/salt flats racers)- ie Just the absolute bare minimum, to get you to the other end of the track.
Stunning bike! True art.
That was enjoyable. Thank you Jay!
Agreed!
Neat stuff. Bar none the most interesting thing I have seen with a BMW badge in the last 20 years.
I would love a spin-off, where Jay just wanrers around, or sits in an interesting place, and just tell stories, sometimes with guests, sometimes just the story. Please Jay, share some of that with us!
Agreed!
Awesome video! Thx Revival and Jay. Engine is nicely displayed
Beautiful craftsmanship !!
Beautiful. Most unusual, exclusive bike. It is art to be in a museum.
Form over function is fine?
It's an artistic expression of simplicity... 👍👏 I would add
Copper lines and brass hard ware for a little more industrial look?🤔I 💛the shift knob just more details... 🤠👍✌
Their friendship is so cool 👌
Man, that thing is so cool! WOW! Such an interesting designer/builder too. From boring low drag coefficient Mercedes (earlier JLG episode) that looks like a Japanese sedan to this work of art. Superb!
That looks like an old board track bike. I didn’t think Jay would ride this one. Thanks Jay. 😎👍🇨🇦
My Great Grandfather in Denmark manufactured motorcycles / motorized bikes before 1910 (manufacturer name unknown) in the old country, and I can see where you're coming from. Most motorcycles were little more than bicycles with an engine added to then. 😎👍
I saw this in person a couple years ago at a bike rally - just awesome!
Awesome!
@3:14… aero bicycle helmets at the highest level still use that teardrop shape!
Wow. This bike is amazing
Interesting. Nice seeing visions get fulfilled.
Wow, true aesthetic art
Yep!
Too much right with this to even opine what I would personally want to be different. Truly is the epitome of art. And this guy is by far the coolest cat I have ever seen on mr Leno’s show.
Wow!
The bike is pretty cool, not amazing, but pretty cool..... but this is one of my favorite episodes. That dude seems really easy going and knowledgeable.
Thanks Jay!!
Amazing build, so beautiful!
A piece of art!
very reminiscent of the BMW Troy Corser built and was racing in classic racing, sweet job fella's
It really does look like it belongs on a board track.
In the recycling dumpster
Absolutely. And if it showed up on a board track in the '30's? The crowd would have gone wild, and the cycle would have been outlawed on general principles. lol.
@@user-zy3nv1jy1m says someone that couldn't fix dinner.
Agreed!
The bars look kinda pre-ww2. But to me, it mostly looks like an old, 50s/60s drag bike. They often built the chassis around a straight tube from the head pipe/headstock, to rear wheel, like this bike.
Brilliant design and amazing craftsmenship, and the guy isn't trying to jump out of his pants constantly as the guy in previous episode from Mercedes. Well done and greetings from Latvia.
This was just lovely.
Thank you
Retro futurist to the max❤😁🇬🇧
I mean this as a compliment that this motorcycle is the craziest contraption I've ever seen. :-)
Agreed!
The beauty and the beast in one.
Seems like not just a guest, but a friend! Great rapport between these two gearheads.
Randy Grubb should do something with this drivetrain.
He doesn't need to, this bike already fits perfectly with the decopods
I love the sound. I mean I like the whole bike, but DAMN!
Jay loves bikes that you can look through
Interesting art (especially the conversation over it). Nice one, Jay!
BMW's goal for the bike was to start a buzz, a conversation, and to get people thinking, creating, sparks flying. The bike has a license to thrill, not chill. The appearance on Jay's program m-a-y have been a Beemer goal, too.
Outstanding!
Automotive art is all very well but that bike only made real sense when you could see it moving. The best cars and bikes look great and they also work as vehicles otherwise they are the unwearable Paris hats Jay mentioned.
Compared to previous video this is like a sip of fresh air
Those pipes are blued...someone's had it out to play. GOOD GAWD ALMIGHTY- thats one beautiful bike.
Oh wow, now that is cool!!!!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great art, great bike, great rapport, great video!
That's the forth video in a row that does not appear in my subscription feed. I can access it when I go to the channel page so it's not blocked in any form. Weird.
Pretty object. The combinations of lines, colors, texture, and material is very pleasing. Tis no motorcycle... Go to a bike night in Austin. Aesthetics are hard to make go when late night humidity hits them, but Austin DGAS. VINTAGE!
"Hey man, can I bum a ride home? I can't get mine to start."
this dude has the most secure facial recognition password
I see what you did there👁
I searched through dozens of comments to find this one bahahaha
How absolutely totally cool!!!!!!!!
Ha ha! 165...
Slow down a bit Jay; we need you. (But don't slow down too much.) Amazing bike, amazing work in that beauty.
A great bike builder in a great city, Austin!
that is the size of bike shaq needs to be riding. good job on getting the proportions right, and the weight. I wish more people really understood what simple means. simple as in you wonder if it has enough parts on it to work. beautiful
Luuuuv the frame!!!
Wow, she's a deadly piece of art, that seat is gonna eject you immediately 😂
Alan Stulberg is very well spoken. I'd like to see him talk about more of his work.
I have an interview with him from this year's hand built show regarding his new Ducati fuse on my channel if you want to check that out. It's a gorgeous bike!
@@epicmotorcyclechannel307 Hey cool. I'll take a look.
@@alexstewart839 sweet thanks!
Brilliant
Gas tank reminds me of the gen 2 vmax, speaking of witch Jay could you please do a video about that bike and explain why you never road yours and ended up donating it to the Barrett Jackson action for charity.
This is an amazing bike! On my channel I have an interview with him at the 2022 hand built show about his new Ducati Fuse, which is equally as outrageously epic.
Some people are surprised to find the engineering compromises made by BMW on their Oilheads. The K100 had some interesting geometry for a short motor too.
Its constructed in Austin and it weighs 420 pounds? uh huh.
What a great one, loved listening to these very knowledgeable guys discussing an innovative design
Agreed!
I been subscribed to channel for ages but no videos come up in my list I have to look the channel up!
In a word... "Wild"
Truly stunning. One of the most beautiful sculptures ever made.
Love your posts Jay! Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have yet to see a BMW R1100RT roll through your garage. If you're interested, I have an example of one. A relatively unmolested (only mods are LED lights throughout) 1999 RT that's got under 60k on it. Many would could consider the RT to be one of the best examples of a "Sports Touring" motorcycle. Be happy to ride it down from SF and show it off!
yeah it looks surprisingly comfortable, if it's comfortable I'll be surprised.
Maybe it just isn't half as bad as it looks.
congrads to Jay on his new game show. I dont know how you find the time.
As a showcase for the engine, this is just a brilliant approach. And to be honest I was dubious of the motor in the early part of the ride, but when it was warmed up it sounded rapturous.
beautiful bike, ........ to put in my livingroom.
Nice to see a bike again. More please. You do too few!
I love it and I godda be honnest Im gonna steal a few design ideas for my own stuff , turns out the giant hat is usefull.
you must have a core of iron, an incredible grip, and do not mind of being thrown left and right at a stop beautiful
And who would insure it? Where are you going to get tires? No cooling system? One gallon of fuel? - These are all valid questions, if you don't get art.
Besides, BMW would have shown him the door if he brought them a nice, reliable commuter bike.
Anyone else not getting some of Jay's vids pop up in their notifications?
Like some beetles tangled up in a spider's web. Luv it. Stick a comfortable seat and mudguards on it and it gets even better - trust me.
team spends hours formulating, designing, and creating an artistic seat that marries old school looks with new age technology.

Very cool 👍🏻🙌🏻
I like it... I like it alot
Thanks Jay and crew. I love moto art.👍 #Manxley
