The actor that plays Lord Chilled played Tien and Android 17.
He wanted a role where they could go all out wacky.
Marc Soskin, Alias Ganxingba. I LOVE his Chilled, as proven by Nick Landis in the Episode of Bardock commentary Chilled is VERY hilarious and quotable.

Yeah, the official "Episode of Bardock" short was made like, decades after the original show ended - it was like around the early beginnings of them starting to make more DB animation again, but before the revival with Battle of Gods that eventually led to Super

It was a neat era where we were getting bits of new or remastered old content with a newer animation style similar to stuff we'd seen in some video game opening cinematics
Stuff like the special introducing Tarble, the condensed and reanimated Hatchiyack special in DB Raging Blast 2, the Ultimate Tenkaichi animated cutscenes, etc..
That polished artstyle was pretty for a while but kinda got old for me by the time Res of F happened and then DB Super actually began
Been enjoying the newer animation in the DB Super movies so far tho-- and of course, there were some noteworthy highlights in Super too

You kinda talked over my favorite joke in the episode, which is that Bardock really did invent the fake moon that Vegeta used to transform back in the Saiyan Saga, as the original English dub claimed for, like, some reason.

Well he's a completely different character though (or should I say an actual character, unlike the DBZ bullshit-version of Broly)
The actual special came out in October 2012 as extra content for Dbz Kinect on the xbox360, honestly the special was probably the only good thing from that game.
It was released as just a holiday special in japan before, they only bundled it with DBZ Kinect overseas, just like the Hatchiyak movie also released in japan years before and then got bundled with Raging Blast 2 overseas. But none of them were made for the games, they already existed as normal specials way before.

The Bardock movies are probably my least favorite of abridged, but they're still hilarious which says alot about how talented these guys are!

This is actually several people doing the Kermit voices. Lani, Kaiser and Takahato both said in one of their commentaries that they all took turns doing voices for different ones.

i know there's a lot of different dubs but I don't know much about them and what they are called,
I remember watching few episodes in the dub where they call piccolo a Sayan and i watched all of DBZ in the original dub... I think. With all the iconic voices and almost 300 episodes
@@Shadow_ci Fair enough. I'm not familiar with any dubs that call Piccolo a Saiyan, but I could believe it exists. The "brilliant scientist" line comes from the Ocean dub, which is somewhat infamous for its misguided attempts to tone down the violence of DBZ to make it more kid friendly. The "they blew up the cargo robot" joke also comes from that dub.

It is also implied the "S.P.U.G" is actually the liquid they put in the regeneration pods in the Freezer arc, and that's why they were actually at the planet, cause they wanted the"S.P.U.G"

Actually, the little purple aliens are all voiced by different people doing Kermit impressions. It’s kinda scary how hard it is to tell.

Fun fact, Bardock's red headband is actually the blood-soaked armband of his murdered best friend. When he picks it up in the og movie, you see it dramatically change color from white to red as it gets covered in blood.
What’s so funny to me is that there’s a dermatologist here on CZcams, and her name is Dr. Dray. 😂
So this special is set on planet Plant, so technically these would either be the Tsufurujins' (Tuffles) forefathers, or an unrelated species, that lived there before the Tsufurujins. The saiyans only arrived on thar planet later, after Planet Sadal was destroyed.
Well Tsufurujins aren't canon so in this OVA they simply don't exist.
I *think* space Australia and space france are on the same planet, as Jeice and Salza are cousins in Dbza. But that's just kind if a theory, I don't recall what tfs said on that.

This, Creator Commentaries of DBZA episode 52 on the Four Star Bento channel and Totally Not Mark’s Buu Saga Review with DBZA Buu Saga clips, it’s all coming together. Episode of Bardock was released as a bonus feature on Dragon Ball Z For Kinect in 2012, a year after the “films” Japanese release.
Not sure what you guys mean by "quality", the animation just looks much newer and cleaner because the special this is abridging was produced and released in 2011, while the original Z anime came out from 1989 to 1996.

Btw, they did another retcon through new Broly movie, but it is pretty bullshit, since they forgot one crucial detail:
Freeza remembers Burdock.
Back when Goku fought Freeza in canon (both manga and anime), Freeza said he reminds him of lone saiyan warrior who dared oppose him. And then he says: "Could it be you are son of that Saiyan?"
We do know that Super Bardock atleast managed to go out into space and fight his army, but yeah, it's never shown that he ever gets to Frieza or anything...Toriyama forgot that part happened I guess...

he has 2 other forms as well in xenoverse 2
ssj2 and ssj3.
both of which he obtained via the fight with the main bad guys [who i can't ever seem to remember their names] but they controlled the time breakers.
and yes xenoverse confirms there are TWO bardocks running around.

The Android Saga aired in 1992. The Episode of Bardock aired in 2011. That's why you're noticing a quality difference.
The video about Dragon ball characters having the same face was debunked a while ago.

Episode of Bardock was only released in japan, so TFS gave us an English dub of it.
The original of this came out in like 2017/'18. It was fun.

Episode of Bardock was just "What If Bardock somehow was brought to the past before being destroyed completely by Frieza's Supernova?" It is very cool, and somewhat canon within Super, but not there i a timeline where Bardock possibly is just roaming the Cosmos
I know this is long after you guys watched these but i just gotta ask for retrospective clarification. Were you guys convinced animated anything? Because between this and a few other instances it sounded like you guys thought they actually animated this stuff and weren't just dubbing over things (for dbza).

It's so annoying to watch self proclaimed Dragon Ball fans not knowing most of the movies. The first Bardock movie is old, 1990, while this one is from 2011, that is why the drawings, colors and animations are different. They literally made Bardock go back in the past and become the OG legendary super saiyan.

This special has no english dub, so I'm not sure where the voice for Chilled came from.
There was a fan dub though. Pretty decent actually.
It is NOT the same face for all the characters. Eyes, eyesbrows, and general face structure vary. The video with swapping all the hairs doesn't account for this but that's hard to see due to the difference in artstyle.

No it wasn't. That's what Turles says in that one movie, but that movie isn't canon and Toriyama had no input on it, it was just some stuff that Toei made up. Toriyama never said anything like that.
Yes, this is much later ... but apparently only 2011 ... (still beats the late 80s and early 90s where DBZ was coming out xD) weird that I can't remember having seen that, even though I watched all movies ... and I'm pretty sure, that was after 2011 ... maybe ... xD
That's because this is an OVA and not a movie. Those are just special episodes released for special ocassions, but they don't have movie length and are not officially considered movies, just like the "Yo, Goku and his friends return!" OVA.
Also, this never got dubbed in any language other than japanese, so if you only watched dubbed, you wouldn't have found this either. It was released overseas with DBZ Kinect but even then it was subbed and not dubbed

So the team four star writers really hate the original special for a couple reasons. First it was the most obvious cash grab dragon ball has released to date. Second it completely changed bardocks character from being a badass space pirate who's slaughtered millions to some weird altruistic savior. Spoilers for super broly below
I understand that super broly softens him up too but it's really him just wanting his son to survive. Not risking his life for weird strangers.
Having seen the special myself, it's not really about Bardock building a relationship with them. It's more just the bloodshed around him reminding him of his slaughtered teammates and how it shows he is still pretty weak
