Great idea. I also have a Hyperjuice 245w battery power brick for coffee shops that don’t provide outlets and logo silent mouse to not disturb those nearby
Coffee shops like Mozart in yeehah-Austin!
Heyy what year is the studio display ? I have a 2011 one and it doesnt work
Awesome desk setup and video love seeing a usable desk setup for real life work!
Amazing man! Thanks for this video
Thanks!
I can't believe you had four desks in one room! that space is huge. I'd love to have a workspace like that. As usual though, the desk is clean!
And god damn I need to get a TS4+ I miss having a rear thunderbolt host port!
Thanks Chris! Not nearly as cinematic as your video! Yea, I love the ts4, and agree on the rear host ports.
I would love to hear more about what you mentioned at the end of the video: the content cache and how you store photos and back them up. What about archiving and backing up video files? Thanks!
Noted! I have been debating talking about my backup strategy because it's pretty nerdy but yes I was thinking about the content cache as well. Thanks for watching till the end!
Awesome setup & Thanks :)
Thanks for checking it out.
Great video! Have you tried to get into custom mechanical keyboards? It was the awesomeness of the MX master 3s that motivated me to start looking for an equally awesome keyboard. Now I’m daily driving a Feker Alice layout keyboard with tactile switches and pudding transparent key caps.
Nice desk setup, clean and functional.
Thanks!
The is is almost EXACTLY as what I have been using for the last couple years! Same Uplift desk, CalDigit dock, 14IN MBP. I use 2 27" monitors and the Mac is in Clamshell mode. Looks good!
Nice, good taste!
💌 thanks for the vid. great details.
Thanks!
niceee setuppppp
Thanks! This give you any ideas?
Absolutely loving this. How has it been over this 9 months? Any changes?
That is awesome. I am also using the same as yours.
Hello is there a set up video on how to connect the MBPro,-M2 to Cal-digit TS4 to Apple studio display in clamshell mode to be used a a all in “one desktop”….i just wanna make sure im connecting everything correctly
Enjoyed this, Jerry!

The new comment filter helped me find this!
@@JerrySchulze how?
Jerry I love your desk setup and agree with many of your decisions except for the airpods - I used to use these too until I bought an EMF meter and properly measured how much they radiate your brain when in use - not good, at all - I will never touch them again
Damn same setup as me :) but literally just the monitor and the macbook lol
Great set up! Do you have first hand experience in connecting ethernet cable to MacBook Pro using Caldigit TB4 dock?
I use my MBP the same way... right in front of me with my studio display behind it.
Nice, you might be the first!
I am shocked at how similar our set up is. Nice. Also noticed the Logitech USB port in the CalDigit. Smart: Not using Bluetooth for the Logi MX 3S (silent) mouse is smart. For external SSD drives though I am sold on OWC packaged units. Thanks for the review. What happened to your Mac Studio???
Yep, Bluetooth on max is just not great over the last 5-6 years so I use rf when possible. This is what happened to my Studio.. czcams.com/video/N7LMUWxRjSg/video.html
Content cache is a unique feature I never heard of. Really great setup. I am working towards having a similar setup. I have the Macbook and the iPad but the studio display isn't worth it. I am waiting for Apple to upgrade the studio display to Mini-Led and Pro Motion.
That's a really nice looking (and functional!) setup. I've been thinking about upgrading my 2014 iMac (Retina 5K), and I'm having trouble deciding between a laptop or desktop. If I were to go with a laptop, I think I'd end up with something almost identical to your setup. (I'd really like two displays, and a 14-inch MacBook, or iPad with sidecar, should do nicely as a second display.)
I think I would want a dedicated keyboard, and not use a MacBook's keyboard most of the time. If I had MacBook, I think I'd want to use its screen as a secondary screen, rather than in clamshell mode, which would mean it would have to be off to the side to not get in the way of a desktop keyboard.
I've long been a fan of extended keyboards (one of my all-time favorites was the Apple Extended Keyboard II, code named "Enterprise", as in the aircraft carrier). But I find that moving my right hand even further to the right to get to a trackpad causes some strain. And there are times when I'd like to have a mouse, too. So I think I may have to go with a more compact keyboard. I've already got my eye on that same mouse.
Those iPhone and iPad stands look really useful. Is there a stand you like for elevating a MacBook so you can place it next to a monitor?
I've never used a desk pad, and I'm having trouble seeing the need/desire for one. The fibers on yours looks like it would be either itchy or ticklish. Does it ever bother you as you are moving your hands around, from keyboard to mouse, etc.?
No the fibers are not itchy it feels great. For a stand for the MacBook I recommend one from here. czcams.com/video/yDP4chmezW4/video.html
@@JerrySchulze Thanks!
What case is on your iPad? It looks like the back of the marine blue folio
What size is your MacBook Pro
The Studio display doesn’t have 1600 nits of brightness, only the Pro XDR Display. The Studio has 600 nits
You are right. I can’t believe I didn’t catch that in the edit. Thanks.
love your video, i need to do one for my desk setup on my channel. i have many of the same desk accessories. great minds think alike 🙂
such quality videos
I struggle with audio constantly and never feel it sounds good. No, I don’t use all of them at the same time. I almost always use the mkh416 into the Sony xlr adapter for my a7iv, but sometimes I need to use a lav like in this video because I was moving around. This video was recorded internally on the dji mic and synced with the video. I dont really use the Tascam anymore or the ntg, I need to update the list. You have any suggestions to make it sound better? Just using built in Final Cut options.
@@JerrySchulze, well as I said, I absolutely already adore your sound ! I do have a few ideas if you wanna push it further. I am no sound engineer but I am a composer, so here are my musical thoughts. (If any sound engineer is reading me, please correct me or complete!)
A nice and cheap way, would be to get Logic Pro X : drag your recorded sound in it, and then shape it the way you like, using E.Q's or pre-amp plugins, or slight saturation. You would warm up the tone, to get that "period Spielberg movie" feel, hah.
You could also get a dedicated audio interface, I use UAD twin, but it's not cheap. The build-in pre-amps should record an even clearer sound than the one you got.
3rd (insane) option, would be to get the audio interface + a hardware pre-amp specialised in radio and voice. but it's obviously insane, and I wouldn't even know which to get ! and it would cost a lot for an uncertain result.
But option 1 or 2, or the 2 combined, could be a nice way to reach perfection. UAD also allows to apply real-time plugins without any latency. But you can also simply record it clean, and then shape the sound in "post production", within logic.
Good luck, keep us in touch : ) and thanks again for the nicely crafted videos.
Best,
theo
@Matthew Nyght that's awesome! and not that expensive. I might borrow that from you then haha
Don't get why this isn't more popular. You pay for an amazing screen, but also for an amazing trackpad and keyboard (imo) with a macbook. I honestly felt a little silly buying a magic trackpad and mx keyboard for my setup, and switched to this instead.
Can you use the MBPs sd card reader while its in clamshell mode and the studio display on?
Yea
How would you compare the Apple Display vs. the Dough spectrum 4k 144hz?

Hi thanks for a great vid… I just picked my m2 max… I thought for sore I would see that blue geometric wallpaper. Where do I get it from? Thanks again
awesome! It should be in the Wallpaper settings as an option.
@@JerrySchulze OK it wasn’t there for me. I downloaded it from the web. I’m surprise that because that’s the way Apple advertise it vantage. It just didn’t appear on the computer. Oh well no problems no worries thank you.
If I plug in the MacBook to the ts4 with a thunderbolt 4 pro cable will it also charge the MacBook so that I can use it in clamshell mode?
Yes!
Q: I'm curious ... What are the benefits to having the 2T instead of 1T with the m2 max chip?
For me just the internal storage space needed to hold multiple projects on the go.
Hello, how is the battery wear and tear of the Macbook if you use it as a main computer with a monitor?
when you leave it plugged in most of the time apple drops the charge to 80% to keep the battery healthy.
@@JerrySchulze so you can use it as a working station and don't need a Mac mini ?
Awesome review and setup. What is the exact dimension of your L desk?
Thanks. I believe it is 72”x84”.
hey jerry so I saw in your other video that ethernet is important to you for transfer speeds. one thing Im not understanding, the ethernet is plugged into the ts4 and it transfers through thunderbolt 4 to the macbook for a wired connection? Or am I still not getting it lol. just switched to the m2 pro from pc so Im figuring it all out for a seamless setup
You are correct, ethernet to the dock and then goes through thunderbolt.
@@JerrySchulze thank you !
I am a music producer and I primarily rely on the CPU, I will use a second screen though. I am not sure if I should get the M2 Pro 19 cores or the M2 Max 30 core. Which configuration would you recommend?
producing music you'll be absolutely fine with even m1 pro, the necessary things you need will be higher ram and storage options
@@imlskr Haha thanks for the reply man! I ended up with the M2 Max 30 Core, 32 GB RAM and 2TB storage. I couldn't be more happy with this beast of a machine.
iPhone case ?
Do you always leave the ts4 connected to your laptop?
I do yes
I can't use the laptop keyboard for coding. I simply HATE it! I use external Mac keyboard.
love this, but i would never consider using my trackpad over my mouse
I get it. Took some getting used to but it works for me.
If you are not using that iPhone xr can I have it please ?
the laptop keyboard is not at all similar to the laptop keyboard. this will mess with your keyboard muscle memory and messes up more. Not at all good idea to make the external keyboard and trackpad like the laptop layout.
Heavy handed with the infomercial much?! 👎🏼
