Center stand on a KLR is just 7 LBS of dead weight that bottoms out off road and can snap footpeg bolts. Most important mods are Eagle Mike doohickey, safety switch disable, clutch and side stand. License plate relocation. Surprised you didn't go with staintune muffler. I also recommend a manual petcock, as the vacuum one can fail over time. I've been riding KLRs almost daily since 2005.
Went in to this particular dealer in maroochydore on Monday. The sales bloke I delt with was an absolute tosser, i wanted to look at putting a deposit down on a bike, he decided that halfway through speaking to me (at his desk starting to fill out paperwork) he would go and chat to another customer and try to sell them a bike for 20 minutes before I decided to leave. 100%would recommend going two minutes up the road to another team moto store and get the best service I've ever had in a store.
Coming in late on the conversation, but I have a 1998 KLR, except for the cowl and dash mine is almost exactly the same bike at 20 years old, as some of you already know. 30,000 miles (48280 km), still strong. I actually have no upgrades, but still go as fast as I want to on the road with it (I don't go fast, too many years of driving heavy trucks and jeeps). I can tell you that the Austrailian one is really cool and all the mods you are speaking about are great ideas. I do have the oem sprockets but a few other upgrades.
I wanna do the mikuni swap om mine so bad!!! But i did dyno jet kit n lexx exhaust and its much better but not gonna just crack the throttle n rip a wheelie!!! Lol. Love to test ride one with the mikuni!!!
I noticed you left the side stand up with the center stand down, I've done that a few times and it's a bitch to get the side stand down once you put the center stand back up lol
5:58 - does the harley slide on its own make a difference? i just ordered one through harley because kawa quoted me $300 dollars for the slide, but harley helped me out at $56.
I picked one up , Indoor kept with only 2000 miles on it . I love the bike but it is weak to me . I have done some upgrades myself. Carb is next on my list , unfortunately I am on the other side of the earth from you . So I can't bring mine in . If I do this I will probably have to do it myself but I have never jetted or tuned a bike carb in my life . Any important tips I should know before I mess mine up . I was thinking of just putting a stage 2 in the carb it has on it , but this carb sounds fantastic , is it much better than doing that?
mcclendon1981 i have an 08. Stage 2, air box mod n a lexx pipe. Really woke her up! The best thing is though is that they are as reliable as a hammer! Literally! Just regular maintenance and im at 35000 and just tires, brakes, n oil changes. Still on factory chain n sprockets.
He says he's been riding that bike but there is not a spec of dust on it. It's showroom clean. I don't think that bike has been ridden around the parking lot.

Are they fuel injected yet ? Is this the last year for this bike ? Is it true the klx 550 with fuel injection is replacing the old klr 650 that hasn't changed since 1983 ?
Nice setup Mick. Does it come with some loctite? Those are all mods that are needed if doing any ADV riding. Put some bags on it and you are all set to go.
You forgot the most important klr 650 modification, a milk crate on the luggage rack to act as a top box.

They haven't released any details about the replacement model, it should be a 700 with 65hp, a 550 is the odd size that Yamaha had in 1982!!
