All the new chicks are so adorable! I thought you were going to say none of the chicks were Sebrights. I'm happy you got six of them! It's so nice to see you and your neighbors spreading the kindness. ❤
Brooke, it is best to let the foliage die back on it's own as that is what gives the nutrients back to the bulb for next year's growth. I would strongly recommend in this first year to just leave everything then mow the weeds. You'll know when you can use your highest setting on the mower. That's a good idea ❤
Plus add blood and bone meal to the bulbs. That will thicken up the leafy foliage.
Come fall, after the flowers have died back on their own, remove the weeds and mulch heavily. The bulbs will push through the mulch and you'll be able to mow around them every year after if you keep replacing the mulch. If you cut them all now, especially after just being transplanted, the bulbs will die. My husband killed some of mine that way.
I always cut mine and I have beautiful flowers every year. I think that's each one's opinions. We have them growing along the road and our township cuts them down when they cut the weeds. And they have spread and bloom everywhere. Again everyone thinks different not telling anyone what to do I'm just sharing.
I noticed in some of your shots that some of your daffodil foliage is starting to turn yellow, which is a sign that they are coming to the end of when they are providing nutrients to the bulbs underground. Just be patient. You won’t have to wait all summer to mow. Just hold off a little longer. All the daffodil foliage will turn a bright yellow in a few more weeks and then they’ll shrivel and it’ll be safe for you to mow.
@@sharonjosefik766 These were just planted and as you can see the rain knocked some out of the ground because they haven't even rooted yet. If they had been planted in the fall I would say sure cut them but not now, not this year. Once they get some roots established they will be as tough as nails.

I always learn so much from this channel and the main channel. Of course MaryCarl remains the resident bird whisperer. Brooke's kind, caring heart is without limits. There's much to be learned from her way of thinking, her mindset and her gentleness. Her inner beauty is amazing - as is her outer beauty. As my late Daddy often said 'she's the whole package!'. I do not know (nor am I asking), how much weight Brooke has lost but obviously she has amazing self-discipline. Looking quite svelte Lady Brooke!

Daffodils need their leaves to collect sunshine to energize the bulbs to grow and multiply.
That’s so funny. Your generosity ended up rewarding you with 7 new feathered babies. This makes me think of Lester’s Longhorn, Santiana , that gave birth, and the father wasn’t Tex! It ended up being Billy, PawPaw’s (Lester’s dad) bull. Somehow through a barbed wire fence…. 😂😂😂❤❤❤
The reason you leave them to die back is because the bulbs feed off the green foliage. I have hundreds of all different kinds of daffodils and waiting for them to die back drives me crazy but I wait.

Brooke... We cut our daffodils back as soon as the flower dies.... it would take all spring and half of summer to wait for the stems to die back.. We never have a problem and the Daffs multiply each year...
Thankfully you had 💯 % hatch rate with the trickery those ladies pulled on you. They are so sweet!❤

Well, 100% hatch rate on the seabright and naked neck/seabright chicks is great! 6 chicks for the nice lady is sweet! Chicken biology is probably nature's way of preserving each breed. The chicks are all cute!

I have daffodils, and I was told years ago don't cut back until they turn brown the greens are feeding the bulb for next year. I know I, too, was so tempted to weed eat them also the bulbs should be about 4 inches deep
I just can't tell you how much I enjoy and appreciate your channel Brooke. I had no idea that a hen carried for that long either. But we live and learn. The boys are looking really good and playful. I love how nonchalant MaryCarl is handling the chick's. I actually wish you had more videos but I also understand that you have a life so I'm content with the one you do have. My Granny always cut them back once they were DONE blooming. You will also eventually have to thin out once they populate.

Love the info on who was the father of some of the chicks. Dogs and cats also can have different dads ( more than 1 but up to 3 ) when the mom delivers.

Yes, you need to let these grow they will be making flowers back for next spring. You will need to weed eat next to the fence. lol lol love his story of MC getting the Seabrights ... lol At least you got some Seabrghts out of the clutch of eggs. Nice of you to do this for the lady. You may want to now incubate more seabrights... All the best.
I would leave the flowers alone. Since they were moved they need the extra energy for next year. They may come up in the fall also.

Oh wow, such a fun video to watch today! So exciting about the new little ones hatching and 100% of them hatching. I've noticed pretty much whatever you touch succeeds though. It must be the love. Pretty cool. It is going to be fun to see what those seven little ones look like when they grow up. You may have started a whole new breed of chicken!
As far as the daffodils or any bulb, hate to say this but you really need to not mow the green leaves down; this is how the bulb receives the needed chlorophyll to be stored in the bulb for next year's flowers. They will fill in eventually and choke out the weeds but it might be another couple of years before it happens. In the meantime, for the next few months, until they die down, ignore, if you can. Don't forget to give them a good dose of bulb feeder for your bulbs to double and triple next year. I bet they were pretty.

I think the VCP's need some softer material to line the nest bowl. The birds build their nests in stages. 1st is the outter "frame" stage. Then they fill it in with some smaller sticks & things(like making the walls). Then they need to "bed" it, using softer materials(leaves, grass, hair, feathers, paper, etc.). & by "hair", I mean bigger clumps of hair. They need the softer material because that's what the egg(s) will lay on. It will help protect/cushion the eggs plus it will help insulate the eggs to keep them warm. Some birds won't lay eggs if they aren't 100% happy with how the nest is. Or until they feel its finished to their specifications. If they're missing the softer bedding materials or it isn't right to them, they won't lay their eggs or won't lay them in the nest/nest bowl. I'm not positive about VCP's but I've studied bigger birds & their nests for over 15 years now. & most bigger birds like eagles, hawks, etc., this is what they do. I'm not sure how the VCP's do it, but it seems pretty similar.
Lol! When you showed the picture of the Seabright's egg up close, on my screen it almost looked like a "golden" egg.
Hi Brooke 😊 maybe to keep the weeds down but to allow the daffodils to continue their sunlight food gathering, place pieces of cardboard down on weeds, and allow the daffodil leaves to flop over on the cardboard pieces 😊❤
Spray cardboard with water as you place it over the weeds then cover cardboard with compost. Might you wipe out need for mowing fence line at all?

Yes! I found that very interesting! When you started explaining about what you were going to do, I wondered about who the true father would be.
