There will be a tradeoff whichever you choose. I have a downpayment for both (long story), but will take the Austral. Since I'm buying a full hybrid version, this is what I concluded about the comparative strengths of each: For Austral: - much more advanced/efficient hybrid system - more economical/better consumption - more advanced technologically (4Control, more ADAS, HUD, Google automotive) For Sportage: - better factory warranty (7 years vs 3 years for Austral) - more boot space - cheaper (also because of the fact that you can't have all of the features that Austral offers) - should be more reliable (although Austral is completely new and no relevant reliability exists yet) In the past, the overall quality of Renaults was not exemplary (to say the least). They're claiming that with Austral it was put in primary focus, and from what I could see in the test drive on a demo Austral with >3000km on the clock, they did succeed - the attention to detail and the quality of finish is very good (no rattles or squeaks, panel alignment good, the only minus is the sound of the door closing - doesn't sound as solid as I'd like). So, pick your poison according to what matters to you.
Austral by a clear winner. Sportage is ugly from the front, not as high spec as the Austral. I find Hyundai and Kua a bit too plastic. Austral is premium. Way more comfortable.
