Before calling a parent, I would ask the student which parent would be the most angry about getting the call, and then the student would have to call that parent and explain to them why they were being bothered.

When my older daughter was about 4 she was screened and put in speech therapy. Side note, her speech problems were with consonant clusters and the problem went away when we moved to Spain. When I went to pick up my princess one day the speech pathologist looked mad and my daughter looked crushed. The SP told me my daughter had called her a pumpkin head. I tried not to laugh but I explained that my husband called my daughter that. She saw as a term of endearment and I hinted perhaps the SP could do the same. This was the extent of my interactions with this child’s teachers.

Ooh when I was 16 I remember kids being exactly like this. Not me because it didn’t really matter which parent they called. If we called mom she would be mad that I interrupted her at work. She would decide what my punishment would be then she would tell my dad and a second punishment would be delivered. No win for me. 😢

I had a student who lied to her parents all the time about "how she was treated". And when her father asked me "why would she say something like this?" My legit answer was "because she's lying. She is a liar. She is 16. That's what 16 year old girls do."

I was always amazed with parents who took children/teenagers version as the gospel truth, kids lie or twist facts instinctively to avoid blame.
