  • This video was made to help anglers start out with the best beginner rod, reel, and line setup.
The setup shown is very light making it effortless to make a lot of casts without feeling tired.
And it offers great sensitivity so that the fisherman can feel the difference between a tap from small fish hitting the lure vs. the thump of a larger fish eating the lure to help with hookset effectiveness.
If you want to check out the tackle mentioned in this video, you can find it all in our Fishing Tips blog here: bit.ly/37WtZ8Z

I have 3 x TFO IS TAC Rods (1 x 6'9" & 2 x 7' all MH Fast Action) all paired with Daiwa Saltist MQs. But I just ordered a TFO PRO S 7' MH Fast Action to pair up with my Ballistic MQ LT. Very nice set ups; super smooth indeed. Thank you Salt Strong for all the good insight & recommendations

Got the same rod from y’all two months ago and love it. Launches a mile much better than my mojo inshore from St Croix. Unless you’re willing to spend 250+ on a rod it’s hard to beat this rod.

Folks say not to buy combos, but i got Abu Garcia Joradn Lee bait caster for $90, really light weight 7' med. Heavy rod....
Its by far my favorite to use.

Great setup, I'm a fan of the Daiwa reels and powerpro braid. Have never owned a TFO rod, looks like a solid rig for our light inshore trips! Very decent price point as well.

If you are in the market for a great crossover rod & reel setup that can handle inshore fishing as well as freshwater the TFO Professional Spinning rod should be at the top of your list! I bought the 7'FT Medium last year based on a Salt Strong review and have been very pleased with the performance. I paired it with a Shimano Spheros SW 3000 (SP3000XGSW) that I picked up at the Bass Pro refurbishment center in Macon, GA for $60... which was a steal since that reel is basically the previous generation Stradic (with two fewer bearings) and retails for $119. The reel is perfect match for the TFO rod and is well balanced. I loaded the reel with 15 lb. Power Pro Super 8 Slick V2. Overall the casting distance, sensitivity and power are on par with setups costing twice as much or more.

If you want an entire setup for less then 100 that will last , the Penn pursuit 4 3000 and the lews Xfinity inshore you can get both at Walmart and I have fished it a lot and caught 20 plus lbs reds the lews has great backbone and cast great, the only thing I will note is it's a split grip so that might be a deal breaker but if you are only throwing lures and not going to set your rod in a rod holder it's well worth it

There's one problem with the open-ended hook keeper: line can snag in it when you're casting. I lost a lure when it snapped off due to the abrupt stop. After it happened again, I taped the keeper shut to close the loop. It was convenient but getting too expensive.

No need to pay anyone to learn how to fish saltwater. Get a 3000 or 4000 reel paired with a 7ft rod. Spool up some 20lbs backing line, 20lbs braid and maybe 25lbs leader. Throw on a jig head and a paddle tail and you’re good to go if you like casting. If you like to toss it in and wait, use live bait with a circle hook or cut bait and chuck it at the mangroves. There might be better times and tides to fish but that’s for people with open schedules. I fish when I have time weather it’s rain or outgoing tide, cloudy, hot, cold, whatever and have caught fish. All that technical stuff is for the pros and very serious fishers. Saltwater fish are predators, so watch the water and fish where the water is moving and where you think they might hide. Moving water causes bait to stir up. bait will attract bigger fish and so on. It doesn’t hurt to watch a few videos but all the info you’ll get from paying these guys is all readily available. You just have to look for it. Trial and error is the best way to learn.

6' medium heavy one piece Ugly Stik....
    $40 delivered.....
I've caught 40 pound reds and 60 pound tarpon on it. I've caught palm size brim. 10 years old and still going....
    Thousands of trout and reds.
The "medium heavy" is most important for casting. If you cast a 7/8th oz Top Dog with just a medium tip or lighter.... The flex in the tip absorbs the energy you put into the cast and you can't cast as far. A longer rod can off set that a bit, but it has less finesse for working the bait.
    Best cheap rod ever built.
I am RICH as Jesus and I still use a 6' medium heavy Ugly Stik.....
3000 reel. Any brand will do. Good ones last a little longer.
    I use Shimano Stradic.
I use 20 pound Berkeley Fireline.
But any braid is fine. I like heavy test.
Power Pro is popular but its very difficult to get wind knots out. Fireline is easy....
    To get a knot out...
Use two barbless hooks and start pulling the knot apart from the middle with the two hooks.... make sure they are barbless hooks.
    I use Mirrolure exclusively.....
    52-M
    Catch 2000
    Color doesn't matter...EVER.
