My backyard has quite a few trees around. I'm pretty sure that if I build raised beds just on the ground roots will suck all the water from the plants. Would adding couple of layers of landscape fabric around inner raised bed perimeter will be sufficient to prevent it? I was thinking to use some kind of plastic or pool liner, but not sure how safe is it to grow food in that environment due to the chemicals it might contain. Any advise appreciated...

I agree that the trees would suck up water from any raised beds. A couple layers of landscape fabric would work for a while, but tree roots might eventually creep in over time. Just a thought, you might try some interlocking foam pieces, like for a garage floor, under each raised bed along with landscape fabric. Also, be sure the trees will allow enough light into the area. Not sure a pool liner would allow sufficient drainage. Hope this helps. Happy Gardening!

Yes this is my current problem all the trees behind my house that belong to the HOA are sucking all the water and nutrients out my boxes 😩 so ill be buying land scaping fabric instead of that breathe easy landscaping fabric i had last time the water drains out and over time the tree roots still get into the box and suck everything out now I need to pull up everything, shovel all the dirt out and start over underneath

It is a pain to clear out those roots. Even after putting down the landscape fabric, every Spring I still check for little tiny tree roots ,that try to get into my beds, and pull them out. You're right. Trees really want the water and nutrients from your raised beds. Happy Gardening!

Woven or non woven landscape fabric as a inside liner for my raised bed planter?

Woven landscape fabric is a good choice as an inside liner for for raised bed. Happy gardening!

I have open bottom raised bed planters and super weedy ground soil. If i use landscape fabric on the bottom of my beds to prevent weeds will the rooms of what i plant be able to grow through the fabric?

No. But, plant roots inside your raised beds will just grow wider. If you use Mel's Mix, the Square Foot Gardening soil, it only needs to be 6 inches deep. Happy gardening!

But don’t we need worms 🐛 🪱 to come into the raised beds?

Worms are beneficial. But it's a trade off with the tree roots and ants. You could certainly build your raised beds without weed blocker fabric. Just depends on what you want to keep out, or let in the most. Happy Gardening!
