I have decided to do on my own Quad Lock mount for the Yamaha X-max 300 after trying to buy it in Asia with no luck, because no one was shipping from Asia to USA.
Tools do you need:
- A 3/16 drill bit
- A 3MM hex key for the QuadLock screw
- A 5MM hex key for the Xmax handlebar cover screw
WHAT I BOUGHT
- QUAD LOCK Scooter / Motorcycle - Mirror Mount ($39.95)
- QUAD LOCK Vibration Dampener ($19.95)
- QUAD LOCK 2x Spacers (10mm) Motorcycle/Scooter ($9.95)
- Cover Handlebar YAMAHA GENUINE: Black: B74-F6145-00-P0 (~$9-$30) or Silver: B74-F6145-00-P1 (EUR 28)
I only used the Mirror mount kit +the mid-length screw coming in the Spacers kit:
- I did a hole with the 3/16 drill bit in the center space of the handlebar cover
- Replaced the original screw coming with the QuadLock Mirror set with the M5x30mm coming in the Spacer kit
- Used the back of the mirror kit on the other side.
Results? It’s great!
I have also tried to do a configurations with the spacer and the vibration dampener but I need a longer screw…so I will change eventually in the future!
If you buy the longer screw, with less than $50 you can create this very sleek kit!

Hi! Very bright idea and OEM look. I just want to ask if this would work if you install the vibration dampener too.
Hi Peter, thanks a lot! As explained in the other comments, unfortunately you can't use it. The vibration dampener has a pre-built male screw that is too short to be used in this configuration (and the screw can’t be removed or replaced). If you read through the comment, another owner tried to disassemble it and replace the screw and the end result is that he broke the vibration dampener doing so. Unfortunately Quad Lock doesn't have yet a vibration dampener option with the possibility to change the screw. In any case, I have been using it without vibration dampener so far (~2 years) without any issue.
@@ponticelli thanks for the quick response. I'm planning to buy the handlebar mount, take of the center cover, install the clamps to the inner handlebar, put a spacer, then open a hole in the Yamaha cover and then sandwich the handle with a larger screw to the plastic and screw it to the clamp. That way, I can install the vibration dampener. What do you think of it?
@@peterkaraferis Yes it works, I have seen some people here in Miami with that solution. I personally don't like it because you expose one part of the handlebar while the rest remain covered so if you get rain, 1) there will be moisture keeping below and 2) it doesn't look nice. But if the practicality is a win for you, go for it!
@@ponticelli I didnt explain it well... I wont leave anything open to the rain. The plastic cover will be installed. I'll send you a picture when I finish it.
@@ponticelli I finally did my install. Tell me your insta so I can show you the end result
Great idea my friend! That's the best solution for phone/GPS I have seen so far. Thanks for the video.
Thanks!!
Very nice. I will try this on my NMax as well. Thank you!
You are welcome!
Thanks for the great video and the idea. I just did this myself to my XMax the other day; probably took 10 minutes at the most. Very easy, and works great. Thanks so much!!!
Thanks! 🙏🏼☺️
Very beautiful video Well done!
The quad lock can't sit flat on mine when the hole is drilled into the center, because the hinge hits the outer bevel of the circle. I had to use the thinner spacer.
Genius !
😅🤞🏽🤣thanks!!
hmm very interesting my friend
excellent video, what is the 3/16 bit equivalent to in millimeters, from which part we use the mid- lenght?
2x spacers, only come 2 pieces and 2 screws
thanks
The 3/16 equivalent should be the 5mm but better if you try: do you have a set? The mid-lenght screw I took it from the kit bought from Quadlock [1x 2 x Spacers (10mm) - Motorcycle/Scooter kit], because the original package has only the short screw.
Thanks for sharing. If I may ask why did you not use the cover that came with the bike? I dont understand why you had to replace that part?
You can use it but I didn't want to do the hole since I will remove the part and replace with the original if and when I am going to sell the scooter :)
Is the cover the same for the nmax?
if i use a regular nut to secure on the inside, is it good enough?
I guess so, of course adding a washer as the Yamaha cover is plastic
Cool, does it work with Peak design mounts?
I used the QuadLock mounts, so it only works with QuadLock. If peak design does similar mount with screws, you can try to do the same !
will it work if i have the Quadlock 1in Ball Adaptor instead?
You could try, I don’t remember how much clearance you have under the cover to understand if it fits.
Without using dampener how about the vibrations bro? Is it bothering you when riding at certain speed?
So far no issues at all. I have been using it for more than a year now
@@ponticelli good to know!
Can you add vibration dampener to this set up?
No, as explained in the other comments, the vibration dampener has a pre-built male screw that is too short to be used in this configuration (and it can’t be removed or replaced). Unfortunately Quad Lock should do the option to change the screw
What's the length of the M5 screw for the center part?
I don't have another one to measure. I have checked the details of the QuadLock website and is a M5x30mm Screw
Cnnt put damper?
No, becuase the damper has a screw to attach to the base that cannot be remove and it is too short for this installation
Any idea if i can also put the vibration dampener?
Good question! Unfortunately I haven't found a solution for that. I have the vibration dampener too but it works as a pass through: it has an embedded screw that attach to the back of the support and a top part where the QuadLock support is connected. The screw that needs to be attached to the Xmax cover is embedded - cannot be changed - and is too short (in the video, I replaced the short screw of the QuadLock support with a longer one to make it work). I could explain better with a picture if you need
@@ponticelli Hi! Yes exactly the problem I am faced with! I contacted quadlock and they told me that the screw that's there at the bottom of the dampener cannot be replaced on your own and it will void any warranty due to disassembling the product. But they do told me that they can help out if we are able to provide pictures to them? (Dimensions, types of DIY mounts etc.) So I think maybe I'll have to purchase the dampener directly from them given the pics and measurement I provide? (So they can customize the dampener to my needs and fit a longer screw). I think we would also need a thick spacer or a shim in between the dampener and mounting place itself due to the 3 side of the dampener hiting the Xmax cover, increasing the height slightly so it wouldn't hit. (Meaning an even longer screw is needed)
On a side note, it would also be risky to disassemble the dampener to replace the screw yourself as the integrity of it might be compromised. With phones costing thousands of dollars nowadays, not risking it! Hahaha
@@naz2033 yeah, I contacted them in the past too and actually they helped but the vibration dampener seem to be sealed: probably the recommendation would be to sell one with a longer screw, so that the problem will be fixed
@@ponticelli I have done an installation on my Nmax with the dampener. As you described, I had to break 2 of the 3 hooks to actually be able to remove the two halves, then installed it with a longer screw and the 10mm spacer to give clearance for the damper.
The damper itself seems to only rely on the silicone grommets, while the hooks appear to be there to limit the upward movement. I will do some more riding tests to see how this works in the long-term.
Ideally, I do wish quadlock had a custom damper option allowing us to select the screw length :)
Hi, did tried also using the vibration damper?
As explained in the other comments, you can't use it. The vibration dampener has a pre-built male screw that is too short to be used in this configuration (and it can’t be removed or replaced). If you read through the comment, another owner tried to disassemble it and replace the screw and the end result is that you break it doing so. Unfortunately Quad Lock should do the option to change the screw. So far I didn't have issue not using a vibration damper
@@ponticelli Yeap, just read the other comment so not suitable to using the damper together.. but thank you for sharing the tips to mount the Quad Lock👍👍
@@mhsobj great! Thanks!!!
