I checked it out, the fact you can tailor your drops in a card deck is fantastic. I wish more survivor likes did this instead of banishes. Makes it a lot easier to go a certain playstyle (once you have enough of it, at the least)
the art in these games is just SO good. cool to see they made a survivor-like, really fits the theme and style of the Despot series. love the pop culture reference enemies as well.

I like the amount of health you have in this compared to most survivor games. Makes you feel real beefy and allows for a slow moving hero that just plows into people

Honestly really love the tiny enemies that do little bits of damage combined with your character having a ridiculous health pool

Really strange they coded that awesome semi-fluid physics slime from your own character, but NO blood or anything from enemies you kill.
Kinda feels anticlimactic and non-tangible to kill enemies then. Like just shooting empty bullets at ghosts.

Not to mention this is definitely a great Survivorlike :D fantastical
Just lots of small things Despot's known for, like how you can see your upgrades in the slime itself, just really push this over the edge :D
I for one can't wait to see more and especially see how the game develops for full release :D

Is it just me but the coins display is really confusing. I thought stuff was costing 30...but he clearly only has 7...how...?how? Lol
It's interesting that it seems they're trying to distinguish the gameplay by giving the player a high health pool but low damage. I appreciate the attempt. From this footage I don't think they've got it yet but it's a beta.

still don't like calling these "survivor" games. it's wave assault or if you MUST use the word "survive" call it horde survival. the survival genre is for things like ark and raft and the long dark.
That is what they get called though, the main initial one was magic surival and the game that popularized the genre was vampire survivors and a lot of the other ones tend to have survivor in the title. On this game's steam page it doesn't use either of the alternate terms you suggested, but it does use survivor-like and bullet heaven, which are both things that tom sometimes refers to this genre as. I think survivor-like and survival are different enough that people won't get confused.
@@MKBCelestial i won't ever be calling them that. when i hear any permutation on the word "survive" in reference to a video game, i think gathering resources to survive. otherwise, EVERY game that you can die in is a "survivor-like" fps is a "bullet survivor", driving games are "car survival", fighting games are "punch survival". it just dilutes the meaning of the word to me.
@@sebcw1204 Take it easy bud. There's enough of a difference between a "survivor-like" game and a "survival" game that mistakes are at most brief and momentary, and the naming of these types of games as 'survivor' is no different from how 'metroidvania' was coined: it's based on the most popular or important points of reference for the genre. No one's gonna go around calling fighting games 'punch survival' any time soon...
Besides, it does make sense beyond being based on the genre's points of reference: these survivor games' overarching objective isn't "save the princess" or "kill the bad guy" or "win the big competition" - it's literally just "survive". There's almost never any narrative, meta-objective or other justification for progress besides "survive longer" or "survive in harder levels" - in that, they are similar to some open-ended "survival" games as well, but through a very different gameplay lens. So the name of the genre is not as obtuse and, for anyone mildly aware of videogame genres, perfectly usable and understandable. It wouldn't be my choice for the genre's name either, but this isn't decided by individuals, only by the masses.
@@sebcw1204 Not that I'm particularly defending the genre name but the "like" part means its mechanically similar to the game the genre is named after, so soulslike, roguelike, etc. Soulslikes don't have to have souls in and roguelikes don't need rogues.
